Description
When truths are camouflaged and deaths left ambiguous, some people just can't let it go.
Percy and Johnny were raised like brothers but grew apart as adults. Reunited for a weekend at the family New York estate (Rhinebeck), they discover hidden archives and a figurine in the cellar that lead them on a dangerous journey through the Egyptian occult, paranormal forces, and a labyrinth of secrets and lies. The cost of the truth changes the lives of guests and staff alike.
This 10-time awardee is Book 1 of the Eye of the Moon series. It appeals to international audiences with its classical, mystical, social, and philosophical themes. It especially resonates with those cultures that place importance on family, folk tales, and the need to find one’s place in an ever-changing landscape.
About the Author
Ivan Obolensky grew up in high society, regaled with the mystical ghost stories and fantastic intrigue of his aristocratic and trailblazing ancestors, inspiring elements of his "Eye of the Moon" series. He was educated in the US and England, influenced by authors including Tolkien, Dante, Austen, Wodehouse, Chandler, Tolstoy, Allende, Homer, and Proust.
A Note From the Publisher
The books have mostly standalone endings, however, it is recommended they be read in sequence for the maximum experience (like "The Lord of the Rings" or "Harry Potter" versus "Nancy Drew" or Agatha Christie).
"Eye of the Moon" would be more suitable for a mature audience as there are a few mild references to drug use and sexual encounters.
Due to its time period, set in 1977 New York, there are no cell phones, computers, or any electronic distractions, which can result in a slower-paced story than some modern readers may expect.
Advance Praise
Praise from Around the World
“... It feels like a family elder is telling a story with all the ingredients that make the hair at the back of your neck rise and grips the attention... mystery, family drama, the occult, spooky mansions, strong characters, crime...” -Claudete Takahashi, NetGalley (Brazil)
“As a reader, it felt as if this novel had been exclusively produced just for me... reading was such an enjoyable experience.... There’s enough humour, mystery, suspense, romance and adventure to satisfy even the most jaded of appetites. A gothic classic... five crammed days of the high life mixed with the mysterious.” -Carl Delprat, The Compulsive Reader (Australia)
“... A haunting tale of family secrets and gothic dread. The author paints a story of an aristocratic house party in which not all of the guests are of this world. Filled with hidden motives, mysterious relics, and sinister unknowns, Eye of the Moon evokes the drama of Dynasty with the atmosphere of Manderley.” -Bookseller, Barnes & Noble (USA)
