Description
All it takes is a spark!
Meg Starling has come back to her small Florida hometown to start over. After spending five years in New York fighting to get her own TV show, she’s almost ready to admit defeat. Then a call from a producer changes everything. Now she’s got one last chance to make it big, and nobody’s going to get in her way. Not even a hunky, drop-dead sexy, absolutely irresistible firefighter . . .
Rory O’Roarke is new in town, but it hasn’t taken the new guy at the firehouse long to scope out what he wants—Meg, the gorgeous girl next door. But Rory has his own issues—an incident at his last fire has left him struggling with doubts. Can he still do the job? All he wants is to settle down and have a normal life. Unfortunately, the only woman he wants has no intention of staying.
It is the worst possible time for either of them to fall in love, but it’s hard to stop a wildfire once it’s burning out of control . . .

In the Heat of the Night by Katherine Garbera is the story of Rory and Meg. Rory is the new firefighter in town & Meg has come home to try and regroup while she gets ready for her next career move. Both have been burned by past lovers because of their careers and each is wary of the other person's career as well as falling in love. Both Meg and Rory were strong characters who knew how to stick their ground, but neither were good at compromising. This story didn't draw me in to the point where I couldn't put the book down, but that's okay. It's nice to have a light read sometimes and by the end I was rooting for Rory and Meg pretty hard. This is the third book I have read by this author, and I will continue to do so because I enjoy her writing style and think she tells a good story. I'd give this one a solid 3.5 stars and may try giving the book before this one a read.
Freighters are very hot in this romance, hometown from city adventure. Where sometimes going back to your roots is where the strongest love can be found, nurtured, grown and survive to have a happy ever after future.
Another enjoyable read by Katherine Garbera. The characters of Rory & Meg were intense in their sexual chemistry. It burned fast & hot & kept me on the edge of my seat as they danced around each other. The fear of failure & the fear of loss are strong emotions running through their story. They both have something to prove to themselves before they can move on with their life. I enjoyed watching the growth & realization that each of them went through. Recommend to read.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I enjoyed watching Rory and Meg fight their attraction to each other - Rory because he didn't want to get burned by a woman again, and Meg because she was burned by a man and was planning on leaving Twin Pines as soon as possible.
After a bit, they tried the sex only but that didn't work, then they tried the short term but that didn't work. They tried staying away from each other but that didn't work!
They finally were able to work things out after a scary event and realized what they had was worth working for. It took them awhile to work through their issues and grow past their fears and realize that they were in a different relationship than their previous ones. Great HEA!!
This author will magically draw you into this world of suspense, adventure, drama and passion......loaded with plenty to satisfy your hunger for action packed romance. Can’t wait to read more by this amazing author. Would highly recommend
Very enjoyable romance with likeable central characters.
Rory is a new arrival in town and Meg is a returning local.
Neither are looking for anything more than a hook up but of course cupid strikes.
I liked how this pair tried to keep it casual but feelings took over..
A sweet but steamy story.
Will be reading more of this author as well as more of this series because it has everything in it that I love when I comes to romance .
Takes place inna small town, hot firefighter fells for his next door neighbor, as well as the heat that seems to come off the pages because of the Attraction between the 2 .
I really enjoy reading Ms.Garbera's books especially the firefighter series. My husband just retired so their relatable to me and also are full of heat.I look forward to reading more books in this series.Love the chemistry between Meg and Rory.
I have been aware of this author but most of the ones I seen did not spark interest but this one did. I probably would of started with the first one if I had seen it first but this one still grabbed me. Rory has a job that is not your standard with him being a lethal alpha it would seem. Meg is the one whom feels the chemistry which will have us intrigued on where they will go. She has the hook and the line and reeled us in with staying for the duration of this one. Along with that heat this will have a taste of drama that spikes our adrenaline. She does have a good writing style would read another one.
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT by Katherine Garbera is a sweet small town, firefighter romance! I enjoyed all the characters in this story and would love to read more stories about the town. Rory and Meg have a special connection, I was smiling at the end! Five 🌟's from me!
