Description
Once upon a time she breezed into the ancient city of Lahore like an icy frost on a hot summer’s day, and set forth an enchantment that would follow her across continents and generations. This is a modern day fairy tale with a twist. Unfortunately, not everyone will get there happily ever after.

If you love magical realism and/or modern-day retelling of fairy stories, this one will be right up your alley. I am normally not a fan of fairy stories, but this one with its darker overtones was just perfect for me. In fact, this book is so, so good that it also gets a mention in my top ten books read this year so far. By Nishita's Rants & Raves
I finished it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down.It has this magical atmosphere that doesn’t let you get away. It reminded me of The Mistress of Spices. In a good way. I love magical realism and enjoy reading it and Hasan captures the nuances of the genre brilliantly. by Zeenat Mahal
The blurb on the back of “The Mother-in-Law Cure” warns you that “happily ever after” is not for everyone. Described as a modern fairy tale, the book has all the mythic ingredients – poverty and wealth, rich girl and poor girl, a marriage and a prince charming, but not all of them fit the required formula. Instead, Farha Hasan has rearranged the ancient story within a more familiar and worldly setting, challenged traditional notions of wealth and happiness, and presented us with two women whose lives are entangled in the effects of an enchantment that only one can escape. By Manal Khan
The narration is really powerful, its like a symphony. Slowly starting and then it builds and towers into a wondrous crescendo after the climatic results go tumbling down. Just the right pacing for this story, it isn't rushed, nor is it too slow. Although it may lack the action that you'd find in action novels, but it works just fine for this one.
