In this incredible true story about the life of a young person who is part of the first generation in a new country. Living with a young mother Estrella, who is trying to find her way in a new world. After dealing with unrest in her home country of Cuba, Estrella is forced to start over in a new country, during what is now known as the 1980 Mariel Boatlift. After being sponsored by a young couple in Portland, Estrella her husband and their two-year-old moved across the United States from Florida to Oregon.
In comes Eddie a young person who is trying to survive his childhood situations. Estrella is trying to make a life for herself and her children in a new country with new options. Estrella tries a variety of options to make a life in a new country. She decides to leave her abusive husband, start a new relationship with her sponsor, move across the country back to Florida, moves back to Oregon, then make a wrong choice in trying to flee her husband. This decision was the beginning of some of the hardest times for the kids.
After dealing with the effects of Estella's choices for most of his life. Eddie decides to try and find his way in this world. Working, living, and trying to find a place in this world. Finally, Eddie finds a way from the struggle. By leaving the care of Estrella and fleeing across the country in search for a better life.
