With this mini-immersion into global cooking, Robin Robertson demonstrates that many international cuisines are naturally free of the meat-and-potatoes constraints of the typical Standard American Diet (SAD). Organized by country or region of the world, Vegan Without Borders includes family-style comfort foods, global ethnic favorites, and creative new dishes inspired by the classics, all developed to satisfy a variety of mealtime desires. Robin also notes which recipes are gluten free, soy free, low in oil, or especially quick and easy.

I just downloaded this marvelous recipe book a couple of days ago. Being vegan and gluten free is a challenge , but this book is full of mouthwatering recipes. The photographs are beautiful. I have already made three recipes from here and they are absolutely delicious . This book is a keeper for me I plan on purchasing a copy.
Robin Robertson is a queen among vegan cookbook authors. The recipes in Vegan Without Borders are uncomplicated to prepare using mostly on-hand ingredients. The layout is a dream. The recipes are grouped under regional headings. Each section is complete with appetizers, main courses, side dishes, and desserts with many photographs of recipes, tableware, art, textiles, and the countries represented throughout. It is a vibrantly colorful treat for the eyes.
One of my favorite features is that at the bottom of every recipe, she makes readers aware of ingredients or dietary options featured such as gluten-free, low-oil or oil free, soy free, etc. I find this extremely helpful to know this at a glance.
Overall, Vegan Without Borders is a beautiful and useful addition to every vegan's cookbook shelf and I highly recommend it.
At first I have to admit, I really didn't know what to expect, after all if you read one Vegan Cook Book, you practically read them all. Oh…My.... how I was so wrong about this cookbook.
This is no average cookbook… this is a passport to culinary heaven. This cook book is your tour guide to countries around the world, leading you to vegan heaven as your palate has one love affair after another.
There were so many vegan dishes to choose from, including remakes of classic dishes like Mac and Cheese made the vegan way, called “Butternut Mac and Cheese” and guest what…No cheese. There’s also a vegan version of the beloved shepherd’s pie, called “Cottage Pie”. I decided to make the “Greek Spinach and Rice”, the ingredients were simple and everything was right here in my kitchen. I also made the oven baked “Egg Plant Fries”, I just can’t resist fries and I was not disappointed. I absolutely love this cook book and I think it would make a great addition to any cook’s kitchen, there is absolutely something for everyone. The recipes are easy to follow, most are kid friendly and the best thing about these recipes…. they are not time consuming and they are delicious.
The published date for this cookbook is September 9, 2014 and I suggested you run, not walk, to your nearest bookstore and purchase “Vegan without Borders.”
I always love looking for new recipe ideas, especially vegan/vegetarian and this book leaves me with so many ideas I don't know where to start. I cannot wait to try/test cook. I love the variety this book provides and sadly many vegan cookbooks give a boring vibe. Not this one, which is filled with creative ideas and recipes that even convinces omnivores to say no to meat-at least once in a while
This is a wonderful cookbook with dishes that will appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike! Most of the recipes don't seem too difficult to prepare, which is definitely a plus. I also love that the recipes are categorized by region. The photography is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to try out some of these amazing recipes.
A lovely cookbook that (like the title says) shares a bunch of normally vegan or veganised recipes from around the world. The recipes are also fairly simple and quick, with most of the ingredients easy to obtain and the instructions clear and simple. I also learned a lot from reading the book - for example, that there is a French version of basil pesto called basil pistou and a Greek bruschetta called dakos.
Although I haven't cooked anything from the yet yet, I have bookmarked a bunch of them and am super keen to get in the kitchen. Chickpea nuggets and eggplant fries, here I come!
I was so excited to find this book! It can be very difficult to find world cuisine recipes that do not contain animal products. This cookbook has a wonderful variety of options from all over the globe.
I really liked that the beginning of the book included recipes for vegetable broth and seitan, two staples in vegan cooking. There are also suggestions for dairy and egg alternatives, which would be unnecessary for most long-term vegans, but it serves a quick guide for newbies. One thing I really liked about this cookbook is the section dedicated to pantry lists. The author includes basic staples for any pantry, as well as additional lists for each type of world cuisine in the book (europe, the americas, middle east and africa, india, and asia). Many of the recipes in the book are gluten or soy free, or list easy substitutions. All of the recipes are very easy to follow, and do not contain an overwhelming amount of ingredients or steps.
I dislike mushrooms and tomatoes, staples in most vegan/vegetarian diets. I was pleased to find that there were plenty of recipes in this cookbook that suited my palate. There's a great variety of sides, main dishes, and desserts throughout. Some of my favorites: Jackfruit Gyros, Serbian Potato Salad, Chickpea Nuggets with Buffalo Barbecue Ranch Sauce, Butternut Mac and Cheese, Watermelon Paletas, Piña Colada Squares, and Hakka Noodes. I was most interested in the Asian recipes, and I was not disappointed. With recipes like Bangkok Street Cart Noodles, Kimchi Pancakes, and Bibimbap, I will be cooking through this book for months!
Great variety of foods for every taste, and not only for vegans!
Robin Robertson's 'Vegan Without Borders' is a truly beautiful cookbook. It contains a wide variety of mouthwatering exotic dishes from around the world as well as veganized versions of classic favorites.
The recipes are categorized by region and each section includes appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts. There are also beautiful pictures of the prepared dishes as well as the country they hail from. The photography throughout this book is just as amazing as the recipes are.
The recipes are easy to follow and fairly quick to prepare. So even if you are a newbie to cooking or a somewhat 'lazy' cook like me, you will enjoy trying out those wonderful dishes.
At the bottom of every recipe, you can find information about dietary options such as gluten-free, soy free, low-oil or oil free. In the back of the book all recipes are categorized according to those dietary options which I find very helpful.
There are also menus of the author's personal favorite combinations as well as a detailed glossary of ingredients.
I found 'Vegan Without Borders' to be a very useful addition to my cookbook shelf. Highly recommended!
I will post this review on Sept 9, 2014 on Amazon. com and will also tweet about it.
