This book is pretty intense with its information! I'll never get to remember 1/4 of the information the book contains, but that's a good thing as I'll have to continuously refer to it.
I was interested in this book as I was looking for more natural remedies for a chronic issue - I know many people that would be either interested or skeptical and I think this is a great book for both sides.
This updated edition of John Lust's classic "The Herb Book" is excellent. I was impressed by the scope of the book and Mr. Lust's attention to detail. He has a clear and informative writing style. The book is an excellent learning tool as well as an invaluable reference. It may not contain everything about every herb, but it provides accessible and easy to use information on most herbs used in everyday life.
I have no critiques of the book. Very good job, Mr. Lust!
Featuring historical data, lore and legend, as well as medicinal advice and practical usage, this book is near overwhelmingly informative. An excellent resource for serious beginners and established practitioners alike. This comprehensive encyclopedia is a must-have for anyone with a studious interest in herbalism.
This would make a fantastic reference book because it is filled with factual information about herbs and their uses. There is an extensive list of maladies and what herbs can be used to heal or help with them. As an e book it was hard to navigate so I would recommend a paperback or hardback version for ease of use. This is a very informative book.
The Herb Book is an incredibly ambitious tome, covering practically every part of herbalism and herbs. I'd recommend this as a great reference book for a natural medicine or gardening section of any public library.
This book is love, absolute love for those who have an interest in historical uses of medicinal herbs and plant lore. With adorable line drawings of a ton of plants and recommended herbal cures for boredom and frigidity, you know you are in for some old fashioned fun.
Don't get me wrong, this is not just a listing of plant information that no one in their right mind has used since the 1870s (really, datura for boredom, that is one hell of a cure)there is also really useful information, like gardening tips, herbal remedies, and shopping resources.
This is a great reference book, a real classic chock full of information.
So much wisdom. That's a little bible on herbs knowledge with practical hints for the daily day uses. Easy organized, practical and very complete information.
Awesome title and very very useful for beginning gardeners and experienced ones as well!! City dwellers with smaller plots will like this as well, cooking and aromatics for the home can be grown in very small spaces with great results!!
One of the first books I purchased when I became interested in herbalism was John Lust's "The Herb Book." Now, many years and a shelf full of books on herbalism later, I still find myself referring regularly to Mr. Lust's "Herb Book." So naturally I was excited to hear that it was back in print.
Everything you could possibly want is here in one volume. Over 2000 herbs are discussed. Information on growing herbs as well as their cooking, medicinal and cosmetic uses are included. There are a number of recipies to get you started on using herbs. For the scholar who wants to learn more about the background of herbalism, there is an informative chapter on the history, mythology and folklore of herbs.
This is an excellent book for the beginner herbalist, but the expert will find much of value. If you only buy one book on herbalism, this is the one.
well written, with great pictures and great information.
