Description

God is here to remake you in Her image. Literally.

Jennifer’s got problems—she’s an interdimensional drug mule, addict, and can’t stop destroying her own life. But her biggest problem? An eldritch flesh goddess called the Divine Flesh, who inhabits her body like a psychotically cheerful tapeworm. Jennifer and the Divine Flesh share one body, as they have since the day Jennifer was born. They’re constantly wrestling for control of the body and wrecking havoc on each others’ lives—and on the Divine Flesh’s romantic relationship with Jennifer’s ex-husband, Daryl.

When rural bigots murder Daryl and his friends, Jennifer and the Divine Flesh put their differences aside to hunt the killers down, but in the process, manage to finally separate…setting the Divine Flesh free, and giving Her infinite power.

Now the Divine Flesh remembers who She is. She’s free. She’s ready to assimilate everything and everyone…starting with Jennifer and Daryl, who’s returned to life. Jennifer and Daryl must defeat the Divine Flesh while hunting down the rural bigots of Rosetown, Idaho, uncovering a murderous small-town conspiracy, a serial killer, and a nest of festering corruption in the all-American town.

This is an intense read! It features strong graphic imagery related to body horror. Reader discretion advised.

This book is an unhinged work of complete art.

The cover drew me in and the plot sounded intense. I was right. This author, Drew Huff, is incredibly talented and I'll be needing to read all of their work at this point. The world building added to this extreme horror book was so impressive. This was like the best rollercoaster ride at Banksy's Disneyland. GET THIS NOW. This might be one of the best books I've ever read?!

Thank you to Net Galley and Dark Matter Ink for allowing me to read this in advance! This review is my own opinion I am leaving voluntarily.

This book is a fever dream wrapped in cosmic horror, and I mean that in the best way possible. If you're looking for something that will shake you to your core and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about love, then this is the book for you. It’s equal parts disturbing and beautiful—gruesome yet oddly mesmerizing.

The premise sounds almost too bizarre to be real, but that’s part of the allure. Jennifer, our main character, is not only battling her own inner demons, but she’s also sharing her body with a powerful, eldritch goddess known as Divine Flesh. And if that’s not enough, both Jennifer and Divine Flesh are in love with the same man—Daryl, Jennifer’s husband. The result is a maddening struggle for control that leads to shocking, often bloody consequences.

What makes this story so unique is its exploration of love—not the sweet, gentle kind, but something far darker and more complicated. There’s no idealized romance here. Instead, the book offers a warped, almost grotesque interpretation of love, one that can only be described as disturbingly beautiful. The characters are all flawed, often monstrous, yet there’s something magnetic about them. You can’t help but get pulled into their twisted world, even when you’re not sure if you should be cheering for them.

The writing is unapologetically weird and disorienting—expect moments of horror that will leave you with lingering images of grotesque and unsettling imagery. But somehow, it works. The ugliness, the dread, and the violence are all part of the story’s intricate tapestry, which keeps you hooked, even when you want to look away.

This book isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re into stories that defy expectations and push the boundaries of what horror can be, you’ll find something truly special here. It’s an unforgettable ride through a nightmarish landscape where nothing is as it seems—and where love is just as warped and terrifying as the creatures who live in this world.

I absolutely recommend it if you’re looking for a horror novel that goes beyond the traditional and ventures into the truly bizarre.

“The Divine Flesh” by Drew Huff is a sci-fi-horror novel that is chaotic, bizarre, disturbing, and intense. The cover art of the book is amazing and drew me in, but the fast-paced and unique plot kept me hooked and wanting more. The story becomes more intense and unhinged the further you get into it. The imagery in the book is surreal and vivid.

The story is about a junkie named Jennifer who has a primeval goddess inside her. The goddess refers to herself as “The Divine Flesh” and makes Jennifer's job smuggling the larvae of “Mirror People” difficult. Jennifer also has a complicated relationship with her ex-husband who is madly in love with the goddess. Jennifer's life is thrown into chaos when someone tries to kill her ex-husband and successfully kills his new girlfriend and their friend.

I loved this book and highly recommend it! I will definitely be reading more from Drew Huff. Thank you, Net Galley and Dark Matter INK, for the ARC!

“The Divine Flesh” by Drew Huff comes out March 04th, 2025.

As many others have already stated, this book is a fever dream of body horror, Lovecraftian horror, and erotic horror. If you like Suitable Flesh, Parasyte: Tye Maxim, and Venom, then this is for YOU. It is incredibly well-written, fast-paced, and has characters that leap off the page (usually covered in blood, spit, and other bodily fluids). I was thoroughly impressed, mesmerized, and, yes, horrified. Fun, cosmic horror, and NOT for the whole family.

What the hell did I just read?!

This book was absolute insanity in the best way possible! Jennifer Plummer is a junkie, a drug mule, an alcoholic, and pretty much just an all-around shitty person. Oh…and living inside her since she was born is an Eldritch god that just wants to love, and by love, I mean assimilate everything in her path, and make them part of her. Her name is the Divine Flesh. Jennifer and D.F. love the same guy…Daryl. Through a series of batshit crazy events, including Daryl’s murder, even though he’s very much alive, Jennifer and the Divine Flesh get separated, and the Flesh’s quest to take over everything becomes a lot easier!

I’ve never read a book like this before. It was off the wall. It was confusing. It was funny at times. It was absolutely brutal at other times. But at the end of the day, it’s just a really sweet love story!

The world building was great. Huff’s world building is just incredible. So excited to see what her future holds!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dark Matter INK for the eARC!

What an intense ride this was baby!

✨️The Divine Flesh ✨️ has assimilated me, and I am one of her sweet sweet babies now, baby!

Let's start off with the trigger, baby! This is cosmic horror and splatterpunk! So there will be a lot of triggers here, it's an awesome read, just beware! (check the bottom for them!)

We start off with Jennifer-baby, a junkie, drug mule, loser and MC, ✨️The Divine Flesh✨️ a cosmic goddess stuck inside Jennifer-baby, and Darryl, Jennifer-baby's ex-husband and boyfriend of the ✨️The Divine Flesh✨️ all in a love triangle, where there's mirror people from other dimensions, murderous racists, insane evocative imagery of cosmic horrors beyond comprehension and a crazy addictive storyline that leaves you thinking into an existential crises and a possible end of it all.

This was so damn good, divine it's an understatement! I can't wait to add a physical copy to my collection, and may I say look at that cover, ugh so damn beautifully baby!

I would like to thank Drew Huff and NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this majestic e-book ARC, seriously, this was crack.

I probably say this a lot but it's literally only because you humans are just so gosh darn brilliant! I loved this book from beginning to end. The Divine Flesh had the most amazing sense of humor. Part One you begin to love the Divine Flesh, Jennifer and Daryl. I got to part two and was like WOAH (I don't want to give any spoilers so I am only giving reactions.) The entry of Susan was absolutely beautiful, the concept of the gods just absolutely kept me flipping through pages like no other. I cannot wait to read more of your stuff. This was an absolute masterpiece. It had the perfect amount of gore, the sexy scenes were right on point. Congrats and thank you. I loved it.

Take Clive Barker’s lurid world building, mix in Chuck Palahniuk’s audacious nerve, and top it off with Rachel Harrison’s storytelling, and you have something approaching The Divine Flesh. With her sophomore novel, Drew Huff presents a book that roars, equal parts rage and redemption, terror and transformation. This is what modern horror should be doing.

A rambunctious, hedonistic, evasive, exhilarating, unbelievable, perfect book. Reading about starved sincerity, suicidal gods, and the intrinsic weakness for healthy, horrifying love was a brilliant shock to my system. Never came across a book like this. The Divine Flesh has easily become - 10 days to the end of the year - one of my favorite books of 2024, and perhaps of all time.
