Description
PI Oakley Tyler travels to Vermont to comply with his late business partner’s last wishes. Uncertain of what to do next, Tyler opts for an early retirement, closing his Atlanta private investigation firm and moving to a small cabin in the Vermont woods.
Tyler’s retirement and self-imposed isolation are short-lived: seventy-two-year-old Jeremiah Smith visits Tyler in his cabin and asks the reluctant ex-PI to help him stop unidentified men from killing his grandson, a local newspaper reporter. Smith is certain the local logging industry is involved in the conspiracy.
When Smith is killed in a hit-and-run, Tyler is convinced someone has silenced the old man to protect a secret. Despite the risk to his own life, Tyler delves deeper into the mystery, into the world of genetic engineering and its potentially devastating impact on the environment, as he searches for Smith’s murderer and vows to bring the killer to justice.
Advance Praise
"Oakley Tyler is destined to be the new Travis McGee! Hartmann has created a great character and put him in the middle of a classic detective mystery involving Native American mythology, the death of the world, and good old fashioned murder. Fast and fun reading!" —Lamar Waldron, author of Ultimate Sacrifice
