Description
Henry’s Memoir: Out of Alzheimer’s Abyss is a psychological novel depicting Henry Watkins’ memories of his childhood as his present memory declines through the seven stages of Alzheimer’s disease. His present thoughts appear in stream of consciousness visions, while his childhood memories are presented in six chapters describing events in his life from age 5 to age 11. Henrys caretaker, Nurse Lynn, is his only personal contact as he declines.
This novel brings to the fore the tragedy of Alzheimer’s disease sweeping the world as the aging population swells by unprecedented numbers. One in five adults over 60 will face this disease in their lifetime. Their caretakers will be overwhelmed by stress, depression, guilt and confusion as their loved ones are transformed into unrecognizable human beings. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, only a brief sojourn to the end.
