Description

Amy Beckett has dedicated her life to Diversity—after all, she’s third-generation Diverse—and has recently been promoted to vice commander of the organization that has replaced the police and military of New America... The Homeowners Association. In the walled megacity of Maple Ridge Phase II in New California, a utopian facade thrives in the not-so-distant future. Perfectly manicured lawns, clean streets, and pumpkin spice lattes abound, but only for those who abide by strict Diversity laws. Anything deemed Undiverse— unhealthy food, non-approved music, comedy, even bodily functions—is strictly banned for the sake of environmental purity. Yet, beneath this pristine exterior, Beckett uncovers a hidden world teeming with crime and decay—a forbidden side of the city, free from the constraints of Diversity laws. As doubts about her own beliefs grow, she questions whether true freedom can thrive under an iron fist of enforced equality. Now a fugitive from the very Homeowners Association she once served with pride, Beckett must navigate a perilous path to reclaim her beliefs and uncover the truth about the society she once upheld.

I love this book! I love a good futuristic/ dystopian book. This one was a weird world where diversity is a way of life, not the same way we look at diversity currently. It brought up issues of race, socioeconomics, and class, and it was done well. I liked the writing style, I do think some things could have been shown more, not just told.

Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!

This was a really well done novel, it had that element that I was looking for from a not-so-distant future. The concept worked well overall and was engaged with what was going on in this story. R.B. Bellows wrote strong characters in this type of book and was glad everything worked. It had that element that I wanted and am excited for more in this world.

“Intolerance Yesterday, Togetherness Today, Diversity Tomorrow…”

This book takes on a not-so-distant future dystopian society rooted in diversity, or lack there of. I was expecting a bit more excitement because of the plot description but overall, I enjoyed the writing style and was entertained nonetheless.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Atmosphere Press for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review.
