In her high school years, Terri takes a job in the cosmetics department of a drug store. She then applies for and is offered a position selling for Russ Berrie to gain experience. She does so well there that she is hired at L’Oréal for her outstanding performance. She quickly wins awards and moves up and is then offered positions at other companies for her strong track record. Within the chapters, you’ll observe how Terri sets goals and works to achieve them―and how you can do the same.
After spending time at L’Oréal and moving to Texas, Terri accepts an offer that will take her to her dream location: New York City. While there she works for iconic brands like Montblanc and David Yurman, taking the companies to new levels of success and helping them secure leading positions in their markets. Throughout these years, Terri shows an ability to adapt to new roles and environments, and she’s ready to help others do the same.
One of the key lessons from Terri’s journey is the art of branding and positioning. She jumps in and reinvents companies such as Schumacher, an interior design company that was in need of modernization. By building key partnerships while stirring in creativity and fun, Terri led the company to become a top player once again.
Moreover, Terri’s personal reflections provide opportunities to identify how to balance professional achievements with personal well-being. She consistently takes time to spend with loved ones and showers her team with kind gestures and surprises. She’s known to celebrate birthdays with cupcakes, to have champagne delivered to a hotel room when team members go on vacation, and to encourage her staff to grow in their careers. She has provided coaching for others and is willing to mentor up-and-coming leaders.
