Emma struggles every day. As a child she was subjected to horrific abuse by her father. To the community, her father was a spiritual leader, to Emma, he was the man who tortured her on a daily basis. She was only able to cope because of a protector, an illusion she called Skipper. He would stand in for the abuse while she mentally disappeared. He was there to protect her and maybe he’s still with her now. His visits are always preceded by a single yellow rose……
A frightening portrayal of childhood abuse and it’s equally terrifying results.

Somewhat conflicted in this book. There were parts that were engaging and some parts not so much. Emma our main protagonist is tortured by the abuse she has suffered. The book is a cross between Gone with The Wind and Time Traveler. Emma finds herself at another time and place. She is “found” by a well-to-do doctor Jacob who becomes her protector. There is chemistry between them that is physical and emotional that draws them together. Jacob has his own secrets and family history that leads Emma on a different kind of adventure.
