A super silly picture book, perfect for 4-7 year olds who love to laugh and never want their playtime to end!
The alien kids are having a great time invading planet Earth. When their parents show up with spaceship tractor beams, they don't want to go home. They aren't ready, they don't have their shoes on, and besides, it's not even dark yet!
Adam Gustavson's illustrations are expressive, hilarious, and also gorgeous works of art. But most importantly, young beings of any species are sure to get their giggles out and relate to wanting the fun to go on … and on … and on.

Hilarious, adorable picture book perfect for nighttime reading. The aliens are making every excuse why they don't want to go home! This is just the way kids try to stay up later.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Kid review: pretty good. my favourite thing about it was they had good reasons and they all wanted to do different things. some of the monsters took so long to put on their shoes and socks. i like the drawing because it's like all the monsters are unique and all the colours are nice. i think the writer of the book did a good job.
Mum review: a very relatable story about cheeky aliens making excuses not to go home. a fun and quick read.
This is such a funny children’s book and the plot is so relatable for parents and educators who have seen this narrative all before (please, kids it is time to go!)
The illustrations are fantastic and so silly and will have kids giggling throughout the entire story.
This is a story you can read together or have your child read to you.
The language is simple enough and the humour makes it engaging, making it perfect for early readers.
Overall, this book is a delightful addition to any home or classroom library, and it’s sure to become a favourite read for kids and grown-ups alike!

The Aliens Do NOT Want to Go Home is a fun story that every parent/child can relate to. The aliens are having too much fun to want to leave. Children will love looking at the pictures in this book. The parents can ask their child to find certain things in the pictures; my children love finding things in the pictures. They can make connections to their life and other alien stories they have read. There are so many fun ways that this book can be used! I would highly recommend this book to parents with young children.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC. Receiving this copy did not impact my review which was my honest opinion of the book.I removed one star because some of the words were harder to read on darker pages, but perhaps that is just my eye sight.

This book got a lot of WHYs from my son. Because cheeky aliens do not want to go home so they made up a lot of excuses.
The illustrations are great and my four-year old son enjoyed the book and the story.
Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher Charlesbridge for the ARC.

The Aliens Do NOT Want to Go Home is a lovely short book with funny pictures and a relatable message of not wanting to leave when you are having so much fun! The language is simple for young children to understand, and even early readers to try for themselves. The design of the aliens is fun with both imaginative characteristics as well as familiar images. It is a book I would definitely like sharing with my class.
This children's book gives a fun, and little goofy view at having to do something we don't want to do. The playfulness of the aliens and not wanting to go home gives a unique perspective of doing what we have to even if it's not always fun to stop playing! My 2 year old will love the graphics!

The drawings were really cute, with all kinds of different aliens trying to make excuses as to why they don’t wanna leave. The amount of chaos is also fun, and it does remind me of my daughter saying she isn’t tired and immediately falling asleep, or saying she wants to watch something and then saying it’s too scary, but she still wants to watch it.
Thanks to NetGalley for the free eARC!
This would be a fun one for toddler storytime, or just a younger crew. Much like the froggies who don't want to sleep, the aliens aren't ready for their playdate to be over. The illustrations are fun, and show them wreaking typical alien child-havoc as they beg for just a little more time to stay and play. This could also be a fun one to pair with X Fang's We are Definitely Human.
This is a well illustrated book about many types of aliens who are enjoying their time on Earth. This is good for an imaginative child who enjoys learning about space.
Well, I think it’s clear that the aliens do not want to go home! They like it here on Earth. They can do what they want when they want, like staying up to watch drive in movies. My 4yo enjoyed the aliens and their varying sizes and looks. It was very entertaining!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Netgalley ARC - this is a cute, silly read. perfect for younger kids who struggle to disengage from playdates.
This was a really fun book to read. I really liked how they cleaned up after themselves. The alien with the footie pajamas was super cute, and I liked the 3 toes boots!

Any parent knows that once you tell your kid it's time to go somewhere or go to bed they come up with a long list of things they need to do before they can leave/go to bed. This book is a fun story of the aliens that don't want to go home, and they find all sorts of reasons.
The pictures are great, and the story made us laugh! This was a fun book to read at bedtime.
Thank you for the advanced copy!

The Aliens Do Not Want to Go Home was a delightful and humorous book about aliens who wanted to stay on Earth. The illustrations are charming, and I especially loved the scene where the chicken looks disgruntled. This book would be great for storytime.

This book is perfect for young children. It's creative, silly, and so relatable to kids. The aliens are having way too much fun! It's an adorable story!
Adam Gustavson's illustrations are incredibly rich, detailed, and animated. The text is completely relatable to anyone who has tried to retrieve a child from a playdate . . . or remembers being said child themselves. I won't spoil your fun in discovering hilarious details in the illustrations. Multiple readings—as are sure to be demanded by the littles in one's life—offer the opportunity to absorb even more delightful details.
While Gustavson has illustrated more than 30 award-winning picture books for children, The Aliens Do NOT Want to Go Home is only the second that he has both illustrated and written. [I highly recommend the first—The Froggies Do NOT Want to Sleep—as well.] 4.5⭐
