Another winner. I love the Big Nate books and so do my patrons.
This is a nice collection of Nate comics, which appeal to upper elementary and junior high students, mainly. If you don't have any Nate comics this would be a good introduction.
My son loves Big Nate and this book was a huge hit in my house. He was so excited to be able to read it and devoured it in less than a weekend. Big Nate was the series that made him want to read.
Big Nate's Greatest Hit's is another big hit from Lincoln Peirce. The kids are going to love this book! I know mine did. I have found, while helping in a middle school library and in a elementary school, that kids of many ages love Big Nate. The humor is tasteful, and you feel like you are reading the Sunday comics a little at a time. You can sit and read the book over days, or you can read it all in one sitting. Whichever way you choose to read this new addition to the Big Nate collection it is a keeper.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.
love, love, love big nate. i love these books and they are great for my son!
After discovering my youngest child was fudging his nightly reading requirement (a cardinal sin in my house, as I’m sure you can imagine) by spending quality time staring at the walls or sitting on the dumper instead, I decided to take extreme measures and requested this ARC that we could read together. Both of my kids are fans of the Big Nate books, so I figured I wouldn’t have too much of a fight on my hands, but I still didn’t trust the little sneak to actually read it if given the chance to skip out and build a Minecraft mansion instead.
Let me start with the kidlet’s notes. He wants to make sure I give him credit for his contributions to this review so he can share in all of the zeros of dollars I make reviewing, so here goes:
1. The Big Nate books are FUNNY. If you have a kid who doesn’t like to read, they’ll probably still like these. Comics are much easier and more fun to read than just word books.
2. Nate is hilarious. He plays all sorts of different sports and thinks he’s really good, but he kinda sucks. He also doesn’t get along with his teacher and isn’t the best student, but when he gets in trouble it cracks me up.
3. I love the parts about Nate’s sister. She’s such a loser! And his dad is so nice, but he’s a dork. Poor Dad : (
4. It is so cool I got to read this book in December and it doesn’t come out until January. I’m telling everyone at school about this for share day!
So, there you have it. You know what I found out after reading Big Nate? I’m raising him. Yep, file this one under “non-fiction/biography” because I’m pretty sure it was about my youngest.
Also? Big Nate can help you you some wicked “Yo Momma” jokes to your repertoire.
Lord give me strength.
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley
My 5th grader and I read this together and absolutely loved it!
Review will be posted Feb 20 2015 Big Nate's Greatest hits is a compilation of some of the best comic strips staring none other than big Nate! The book is made up of 3 e-book collections: Big Nate Makes a Splash, Big Nate Dibs on This Chair and Big Nate pray for a Fire Drill. Big Nate is an 11 year old boy - and I think he could give me a run for my money in Monopoly - he is the self proclaimed king and has beaten his friends 100 times in a row! (Monopoly is my favorite game but I can't ever find anyone to play with me!)
These comic strips are a varied of black and white and colored and on a variety of topics that pass through the brain and life of an 11 year old that runs the gossip chatter column at school. Lots of laughs and a lot of fun to read.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review I was not otherwise compensated.
The kids will love this book. Okay, so I knew that when I requested it. But they are so much fun to read that I couldn't resist. This one will never be on the shelf and I won't have a chance to read it myself once the kids get hold of it.
My children all love this author and I wanted to better understand what they like in books and get inside their heads a little bit. I was expecting to be bored but was surprised to find myself chuckling and enjoying this book. I honestly wish I could have had the opportunity to read Lincoln Peirce's books when I was younger so I could see it from a child's mind but it is fun for adults as well. I can understand why this series would appeal to young readers and as a mother, I am impressed by the quality of the writing and ideas (not to mention the art work) that goes into this series. Well done!
Always enjoy the compilations of Big Nate comics. Nate is always so much fun to read!
'Big Nate's Greatest Hits' by Lincoln Peirce asks the question "Can you ever get enough Big Nate?" Thankfully, the answer is a resounding "No!"
Weighing in at 376 pages, this collection is huge. It does collect three other Big Nate books ('Big Nate Makes a Splash,' 'Big Nate Dibs on This Chair,' and 'Big Nate Pray for a Fire Drill'), so do take note of that.
Nate Wright is 11 and lives with his single dad and older sister. He likes playing sports, is good at cartooning, but is not the brightest kid in school. We see his struggles with girls, his nemesis teacher, his older sister, all of which seem to be instigated by Nate. Throughout the book are cartoons by "Nate" which feature his characters like Doctor Cesspool, Dan Cupid and Hollywood stuntman Moe Mentum. He also draws cartoons featuring Abe Lincoln and Pablo Picasso. He's obsessed with Cheeze Doodles, the new girl in town, and trying to get away with not turning in assignments.
I loved collections like this when I was a kid, and I still do as long as the comics are funny, and these are. This takes me back to all those collections of Peanuts, Garfield, and Nancy and Sluggo I remember reading. The dailies are in black and white, but the Sundays are in color. All are presented one strip per page, so this represents over a year's worth. I had a great time reading this.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this great collection of comics.
Nate is a 6th grader that where ever he goes comedy is sure to follow. With his ideas on how to get out of school work (including trying to get out of a test with a fire alarm... that never comes), find a girlfriend and go to summer school with his least favorite teacher laughs are bound to happen. This is a collection of comics that kids are surely going to eat up and want more. Nate is funny and his best friend Francis is funny in his own right when poking fun at Nate without him realizing it.
A great collection of laughs that will leave readers wanting more. The graphic novel/comic format makes for a quick read and the cartoons of Nate's drawings that are spread throughout the book are a great addition.
Nate Wright the 11 year old middle-schooler is back in this wonderfully hilarious collection of cartoons.
This collections follows young Nate as he navigates the difficulties of middle school, summer school, sports and young love.
Sometimes, okay maybe almost all the time a bit narcissistic, he manages to bring us laughter and joy.
The book is targeted for children, but if you are a lover of Calvin and Hobbes you will definitely get a kick or two out of this young character and his friends.
