Description

When twelve-year old Dylan Edwards is given a magic amulet and a journal for his birthday, his ordinary life is transformed into a dangerous mission to rescue his relatives in another realm.

By communicating with the soul of a murdered king trapped in a journal, Dylan receives important clues that will help him defeat an evil sorceress and a corrupt dictator who have placed a curse on his royal ancestors.

Each day, Dylan attends school and leads the normal life of a seventh-grade student, but at night, when he drifts off to sleep, his amulet transports him to the kingdom of Calinore, where his quest awaits him.

There, he befriends an old witch with failing powers, a sparrow who works as a spy, a kind-hearted baker, and the pet dragon of a former prince. He also encounters a group of mice whose shocking secret forces him to take immediate action on their behalf.

Join Dylan and his newfound companions as they embark upon a perilous journey filled with dangers and unexpected challenges that threaten their survival at every turn.

When twelve-year old Dylan Edwards is given a magic amulet and a journal for his birthday, his ordinary life is transformed into a dangerous mission to rescue his relatives in another realm.

During her career as a teacher, Theresa used her spare time on weekends and during holidays to begin crafting “The Quest for Calinore,” which is her debut novel. (She also designed and illustrated the book's cover, which features her son as a young boy).

Advance Praise

"I would go so far as to say this book is easily comparable to the fantasy greats of the past - Harry Potter, The Lord of The Rings, etc... With plenty of action and the irresistible duo of magic and mystery, this book easily earns five stars from me.

From the very first page, The Quest for Galinore pulled me into a world where adventure and magic felt as real as my own life. I was right there with Dylan, a young teenager, juggling school by day and a mission to save his lineage by night. Middle school is tough, and I wish I'd had an escape like his -a magical amulet, a mystical realm, and a chance to be a hero."

Arav Mehta Arts and Culture Scholar

"Adventurous summers in smalltown Canada ignite a rich fantasy world that animates many real life characters in The Quest for Calinore. The deep bond between father and son provides the backbone. Transcending time and space to right a wrong from their past, a journey of magic, peril and pride unfolds with never a dull moment.

Twelve year old Dylan is drawn into the world of his royal past, encountering colourful characters, creatures and events way beyond his grade seven experiences.

While evil dominates in characters such as Dungeon Guard Maggotbreath and Sorceress Drucilla, goodness prevails in the most unlikely places, as pirates and a dragon join Dylan in his quest. Insightfully descriptive passages and hilarious banter elevate this intriguing, brilliantly written fantasy."

"Perfect for young teen who likes fantasy and adventure books! Comparable to Harry Potter, Rangers Apprentice and Lord of the Rings, my 13 year old son couldn’t put it down! Looking forward to the next book!"
