In For the Kill

I've been a fan of Shannon McKenna for a long time but I took a break from her books as I started exploring lots of new authors and different genres. I chanced upon this title which is set to be released later this month and decided do some catching up with this series.

The plot and writing style remains true to Shannon McKenna and while it continues to be entertaining with some degree of suspense, this book kinda felt steamier than the usual. While I understand the combusting chemistry between Sam and Sveti, they were going at it for almost half the book (not that I'm complaining by the way). I felt Sam was being insensitive at some points and a jerk at others. Not that I can blame him either especially when he and Sveti were having their disagreements.

While I do like Sveti for her independence and her focus in her cause, I couldn't help but wonder if she's plain stupid or just too courageous for words. I just couldn't get connected with her at those levels and for some of the decisions she made.

The villains and the action are commendable and they are what I seek when I'm reading a Shannon McKenna's book. I was definitely caught at the edge of my seat and having nail-chewing moments.

This book is the conclusion of the McCloud series. While it is recommended that you read the earlier books in this series as Sam and Sveti first appeared in them, this can be read as a standalone (which I did since I missed out half of this series). I do plan on catching up with the rest of the books.

Wow! Just when you think Shannon McKenna can't possibly top herself and write a better novel than the last one she wrote, she somehow manages to do just that!

I've been addicted to this series since the first McCloud novel, and her fans, myself included, have been waiting a very long time for Sveti's story, wondering how this poor, sweet, tortured, loving soul we first met at age 12, could possibly be placed in harm's way yet again. Well Sveti isnt't 12 anymore, and no one knows that better than Sam, a serious dominating Alpha male, with a soft side just for Sveti. Sam's been on the periphery for awhile, yet we finally get into this head and his background in this novel--we learn what makes him tick, and we discover the lengths to which he'll go to keep Sveti safe from harm.

It's a great read, one of Ms. McKenna's best, and if you've not already become hooked on this series, what on earth are you waiting for? Erotic romantic suspense simply doesn't get any better than this!
