Description

The sequel to Coup de Coeur brings more mystery, mayhem, romance, and danger as Calix, Aubrey, and Ethaniel discover new questions about the nature of magic and deeper, darker family secrets...
After the tragic consequences and betrayals of Coup de Coeur, Calix, Aubrey, Ethaniel, and Lawton are now trapped in Rosehill, the ancestral home where Calix spent many summers with his mother, Lily Addington.
While the walls of Rosehill are closely protected by wards and other defenses, the house contains many memories, some of which Calix would rather forget. But Rosehill’s secrets — and his mother’s — are about to come to light. And the question of who his mother really was forces Calix to understand more about her and himself. Are Oracle powers truly destructive, as Lily claimed, or was she seeking something else?
And the demimonde, a strange realm between realms, beckons with curled finger...and it’s aimed directly at Ethaniel. The lure of that unknown place, and its power, is embedded deep in Harkness family history; a history full of death, destruction, and exile. Ethaniel was warned long ago by his father that his mother’s family would always try to claim him, but he is discovering the demimonde is a far more tempting, and frightening, siren.
While Aubrey tries to hold them all together and protect those closest to him with his own abilities, his personal demons are threatening to burst forth. Can he keep Calix and Ethaniel safe while finding a way to defeat the Golden Order? It feels impossible, and yet he must do it. Failure is not an option.

Trish on Goodreads: HALLI YOU HAVE BLOWN MY MIND AGAIN!!!
This series is so so good; I’m already waiting with bated breath for the next one!
We pick back up with our three beautiful mages: Calix, Ethaniel, and Aubrey in a whole new world of magical mysteries and danger. They are at Calix’s estate, where nothing is as it seems. Deep family secrets have been discovered, along with a frightening man from the past, and the three must find a way to release these evil forces, and get out with their lives.
I know I’m being vague but that is intentional, because SO MUCH happens in this book and any giveaway could ruin the twists!! But I can go over the characters:
Calix remains so sweet and earnest, and just wants to get them out of this horrible situation alive and while. He goes through such an emotional journey, and I just wanted to hug him the whole time.
Ethaniel also has an emotional journey of his own, and he really fights with who his family is and what they were capable of. He’s so brilliant and talented, and so caring for his partners.
Aubrey remains the steadfast, steady force in this trio. He describes Calix as his sky, Ethaniel as his ground, and him being the middle keeping them together. It’s a perfect description of them!!
I was going to try to pick a favorite but I can’t; you need all three of them 💗
And there’s a fantastic new character who I wanted to hang out with because he’s such a blast, brilliant and snarky and really fascinating.
But Lawton? Ugh, Lawton you are not a nice person!!!
Thus book has magic, possession, mystery, angst, steam, a very sweet MMM romance…yeah, it’s got everything!
I can’t thank Halli enough for letting me be on her arc team, I’m so thankful I got to read this early!!!

Laura R. Samotin, author of THE SINS ON THEIR BONES and THE LURE OF THEIR GRAVES:
“Demimonde is a compulsively readable sequel to Coup de Coeur, with even higher stakes, hotter romance, and deadlier intrigue that will keep readers on the edge of their seats, and begging for more.”

Demimonde by Halli Starling is a gripping and atmospheric sequel in the Oracle, Tailor, Curator series, delivering a perfect blend of mystery, romance, and supernatural intrigue. Picking up where Coup de Coeur left off, this instalment deepens the stakes, unravels darker secrets, and explores the complex relationships between its characters, making it a must-read for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
The story finds Calix, Aubrey, Ethaniel, and Lawton seeking refuge in Rosehill, the ancestral home of Calix’s mother, Lily Addington. While the house is protected by powerful wards, it is also a place of haunting memories and buried secrets. As Calix grapples with his mother’s legacy and the true nature of his Oracle powers, Ethaniel is drawn to the mysterious demimonde, a realm between realms that holds a dangerous allure tied to his family’s dark history. Meanwhile, Aubrey struggles to hold the group together, battling his own demons while trying to protect those he loves from the looming threat of the Golden Order.
One of the standout features of Demimonde is its richly layered storytelling. Starling masterfully weaves together multiple plot threads, from Calix’s journey of self-discovery to Ethaniel’s fascination with the demimonde and Aubrey’s internal struggles. The tension between the characters’ personal arcs and the overarching threat of the Golden Order creates a narrative that is both intimate and epic in scope.
The characters continue to shine in this sequel, with their relationships and individual growth taking centre stage. Calix’s exploration of his mother’s past and his own identity adds emotional depth to the story, while Ethaniel’s connection to the demimonde introduces a tantalizing layer of mystery and danger. Aubrey’s role as the emotional anchor of the group is both heart-warming and heart-breaking, as he battles his own fears and insecurities to protect those he loves.
The world-building is equally impressive, with the demimonde serving as a fascinating and eerie new addition to the series’ supernatural landscape. The descriptions of Rosehill and its secrets are vivid and immersive, creating a sense of claustrophobia and intrigue that mirrors the characters’ emotional states. The Golden Order remains a formidable and enigmatic antagonist, adding a sense of urgency and danger to the narrative.
Thematically, Demimonde explores issues of identity, legacy, and the cost of power. The novel also delves into the complexities of love and loyalty, as the characters navigate their relationships and the challenges they face. These themes are woven seamlessly into the story, adding depth and resonance to the plot.
If there is a minor critique, it is that some readers may find the pacing a bit slow in places, particularly in the early chapters. However, this is a small quibble in an otherwise masterfully crafted novel.
Demimonde is a must-read for fans of supernatural romance and intricate fantasy storytelling. Halli Starling has created a sequel that deepens the stakes, expands the world, and delivers a story that is as emotionally satisfying as it is thrilling.
A gripping and atmospheric sequel, Demimonde is a brilliant second instalment in the Oracle, Tailor, Curator series that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
