Description

Forty-nine recipes make up this Eastern European cookbook. Inside, find all types of traditional Serbian fare, including potato salad, lentil soup, and an assortment of pita dishes, as well as sauces and a multitude of delectable desserts, such as crème puffs, baklava, and crepes. Most Serbian cooking traditions are intertwined with the cultures of its neighboring countries. So, don’t be surprised if some of these dishes seem similar to some of your own family’s traditional recipes. Also, be prepared for some differences. In Serbia, lunch is the biggest meal of the day, while dinner happens to be the lightest, typically focusing on merely cold cuts and bread. Throw in an afternoon snack of a baked pastry and coffee and consider yourself a convert! Many of the recipes are vegetarian, but feel free to add your choice of meat to any dish.rbia, lunch is the biggest meal of the day, while dinner happens to be the lightest, typically focusing on merely cold cuts and bread. While I was initially excited about this book since I don't know much (or anything) about Serbian cooking I was soon slightly disappointed. It was divided into different sections appetizers, cold cut platters, entrees and desserts but the cold cut platter section didn't really tell you how to assemble a nice platter with the recipes that were provided (ideas or tips of what go together would have been a nice addition). Also some of the recipes don't seem to provide enough information. The step calls for mixing a bunch of ingredients together and then it immediately tells you to add another ingredient but it doesn't tell you how long something is suppose to cook or how long to mix something/what the consistency should look like before adding the next ingredient. I would have liked to see some tips and tricks listed as well to make things a little more simpler or have a better understanding of what I am supposed to do. A better division between steps would have made this flow better and easier to read. Overall this was just an okay cookbook.
