Description

Fifteen-year-old Piper Crenshaw knows her house is strange. It’s never needed repairs since it was built in the 1800s, and the lights flicker in response to things she says. As if those things aren’t creepy enough, it’s also the place where her mother committed murder.

To prove she’s not afraid of where she lives, Piper opens a forbidden door, which hides a staircase that leads to the ceiling. That’s when the flashbacks of the original residents from 1875 start, including a love affair between two young servants. Each vision pulls Piper deeper into not only their story, but also her house. Piper confides in her best friend, Todd, whom she's gradually falling for, but even he doesn't believe her. At least, not until her house gets axed during a prank, and the act injures Piper instead, cutting a gash the size of Texas into her stomach.

Piper realizes her house isn’t haunted—it’s alive. To sever her link to it, she must unravel the clues in the flashbacks and uncover the truth about her mother’s crime, before she becomes part of her house for good.

Advance Praise

"Phobic is a creepy light horror, good for upper middle grade or YA readers like me who aren't crazy about Steven King-style horror, but who want to read something a little spooky." -Lisa Cresswell, author of The Storyteller series

"Oh this book, this special, stunning, unstoppable, incredibly imagined, book! Can you tell how much I loved it? I read it nonstop, truly. The characters are so.well wrought, and deal with amazingly realistic issues. Piper is a heroine of fine cattle, a girl stronger because of her turmoil." -Mallory Heart Reviews

In this book, so far we have met Piper and Piper has a very strange house that protects her. Piper doesn’t get to have many friends over because her house is so weird and she is not always sure how the house will respond. The house is haunted and this is a good book about Piper and her haunted house. I really like ghost stories so this one is one of the good ones. A very good creepy and gripping book. I would read the next one.

What a surprise! Don't get me wrong, I don't mind reading a good paranormal YA book but Phobic took me by total suprise. The writing wasn't at all Juvenile and I was sucked in to this book aftere the first sentence!

In the beginning we meet Piper who at 15 years old has been through a lot. Her Mom is in prison for Murder and he Dad died nearly a year ago. This leaves only her and her 25 year old brother and their house. Their house that seems like it is literally alive.

I devoured this book in a day. The writing was smooth and the charachters were well rounded. I enjoyed this cast of charachters and am not to proud to admit there was a lot I didnt see coming. And I ALWAYS see it coming.

If your not a literally snob and just want a good old fashioned fun book that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, read Phobic. If you are prepared to lose a whole afternoon being lost in a book, read Phobic. I am a well read 38 year women who enjoyed every second of this book. I hope you do to.

Thank you to Netgalley and Victory Editing for the copy in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book.
