Hannah Howell is responsible for my joyous addiction to Highlanders'. No seriously, she did me in many years ago! And once again, she did not disappoint me!
David asked Harcourt for an heir,,,,yes, an heir. David was unable to have children and wanted an heir to protect his people and lands from his cousin Adam if he should perish. David saved Harcourt's life. He basically found him half dead and brought him back to health. Annys, Davids wife is a beautiful young woman and he is attracted to her so he does as David asks.
When she is with child Harcourt leaves. After all that was the agreement they made but he is not happy leaving Annys or the child. Five years later, Annys asks for his help. David is now dead and issues are escalating at the keep. She knows in her heart it is David's cousin Adam trying to take over.
The characters are very well developed. I feel like I know enough about them to hope to see some of them with their own stories. I always feel so involved with Hannah's characters, like I have known them personally. Benet, Annys' son is just a precocious, adorable 4 year old. The characters that charmingly tried to take over were Roban & Roberta, hero's in their own right! You have to read the book, I'll never tell! There are some characters I would love to see more of,,,Nigel, Callum.
