Divine solutions to human problems. Tallax’s corporate slogan promises miracles to any client who can pay the price—and the person delivering on those promises is seventeen-year-old Alice. A genetically modified human, Alice possesses wings like an angel and supernatural abilities. For six years, she has performed military demonstrations with her trainer, Titus, and given out miracle healings like a candy dispenser. Her one allowance of freedom is the local academy, where Alice can pretend to be just another girl among people her own age. There, she meets Caleb, a boy whose free-spirited nature causes Alice to question her reality and recognize that even the few liberties granted by Tallax are contrived.

Titus is displeased by Caleb’s arrival. He knows Alice’s innocence makes her vulnerable to manipulation, and when he becomes certain that darkness awaits with her new friend, he attempts to separate Alice from Caleb. Now, Alice must choose between accepting the fate Titus has chosen for her or abandoning the only life she knows to keep her one true friend.
