WOW! I know people say, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Blah. I do it all the time, and this cover did not disapoint! What I didn't realize was just how creeped out I was going to get. PLEASE READ THIS WITH THE LIGHTS ON!!!! Unless you are a horror junkie, in which case turn out the lights and get ready for a serious scare! I'm not a horror junkie but I am very glad I picked this book. The characters have a very real voice, you tend to feel as though you are a part of the story. Have fun Screaming at the book while you read it!
As soon as I read the description for this book I was entrigued, the cover drew me in and I wanted to know more. I read the book in one sitting taking just a few hours and I loved it. The book follows a young Teacher who has moved to work at a new school, staying in a house left to him by his grandmother who has passed away. It does have a few bump in the night moments and reminds me quite a bit of almost the Sixth Sense and the Craft in the way the story moves, I really enjoyed it. I received a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was not sure what to expect from this book since I have not read any by this Author, but I was pleasantly surprised. I read half the book in one sitting and then the other half in another. The suspense of this book kept me wanting to know what was going on and how it would end. Very well written and this story does not drag out forever like some books I have read.
Adrian is a young man that has finished Grad school and accepts a job at one of the prestigious schools in his hometown. Adrian is excited about his new job and wants to make a good impression on the students that he comes in contact with.
Adrian has no idea that an ex-girlfriend of his has a secret that she kept from him that will come back to haunt him in this job like no one ever expected. I kept thinking I had it all figured out, but no, I never did until it was all explained in the very end.
The events that take place in this book are no different than what some people say that spirits do, but when they follow Adrian to the school, that is a whole different ballgame. I love the way that Chase kept you guessing and wondering how it was all going to end!!
I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
This is good, this is really good. Its been a long time since a book kept me up past 1am. I just had to know what happens next. The pacing is perfect and the characters are really well written. I highly recommend this book, if you are looking to get lost for a few days in a great story then this is the book.
“Whispers in the Dark” by Chace J. Jackson
Chace J. Jackson takes us on a ride into the paranormal in this new YA thriller, “Whispers in the Dark.” Adrian Ramirez has just landed the job of a lifetime as a teacher at the prestigious Finely Academy in rural Newnan, Georgia. Adrian and his girlfriend, Lea, have moved back to his hometown and are living in the old, musty home that he grew up in. A home left to him by his late grandmother. Lea is not happy living in the large, empty home, and she swears that she hears footsteps and voices, yet she can find no one or nothing. Adrian shrugs it off as the ‘settling of the old home.’
As he starts his new job, it is anything but ideal. On his first day, he meets his students, all who appear to be typical teenagers—except for two: a set of identical female twins. Both of whom are a bit Goth in appearance, and both who change the dynamic of the class. What follows is a gripping novel of the supernatural and paranormal. Terrifying instances begin to occur that seem to have no explanation, yet always seem to involve one or both of the twins. With “Whispers in the Wind,” Jackson not only weaves a story that will keep you up late into the night, but more importantly, he reminds us that our pasts will always resurface and come back to haunt us.

This is a very good thriller/paranormal book for teens but possibly not enough for young adults.
It starts by giving some of Adrian's backstory; enough to explain why he is living with Lea in a creepy old house before starting his first job.
Adrian is fairly typical of a young man just out of university. He will be a wonderful educator and make a difference to the lives of his students. I'm sure most new teachers think that for the first two or three days.
His first meetings with staff and pupils show up the usual bunch of oddballs that you would find in any school.
As the story moves on the tension rises. I found myself totally invested in the characters. They were all believable. My reading speed increased as I wanted to know what would happen next.
The denouement could have gone many ways. It was not obvious from the story. Did Adrian come out unharmed? Did he salvage his teaching career? Did good triumph over evil?
Read the book and find out.
Whispers in the Dark is a nice quick read with supernatural and romantic components. The "even the seemingly small choices you make can come back to HAUNT you" moral is a great underlying theme. The length of this book will be great for those reluctant readers who won't want to invest a lot of time in a long book.
A really good read! I loved the suspense and mystery that this book had to offer. It had a few flaws with plot and setting, but in the end it was a great light paranormal read. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
Adrian and his girlfriend move into his deceased grandmother's home as he has start a new job at a finishing college. Something weird is going on in the finishing college. It appears to have something to do with the twins, Raven and Robin. Why the twins? Adrian tries to ignore it until he is accused of doing something that he did not do. He is determine to find out what the secret of this place is. Will he?
There is detective story and there are paranormal events in this novel. It is creepy at times. I expect that readers will enjoy it as I did. My only thought is that I wish it would had been a little longer.
Adrian is back in his hometown (Newman, Georgia) and he has finally landed his very first job after finishing college and it's an opportunity of a lifetime: teaching at the elite Finley Academy. He returns home with his girlfriend and high hopes but once he starts his lifetime job things is NOT what he imagined.
Adrian suffers from anxiety disorder and he has kept that a secret all his life but his new job's pressure is making it hard for him to hiding it. And now something weird is going on at the school that he is teaching and the identical twins Raven and Robin, two of his students, have something to do with it. Adrian at first tries to just let it go, but then he gets accused who something that he didn't do and that's when he decides that enough is enough and he decides to find out what is the secret of that school.
Be prepared for some detective and some paranormal in this book. When I read the summary of this book, I didn't think it would be too creepy but it did get a little creepy towards the end and I was reading the book in the middle of the night, I know not a smart move lol.
I really recommend this book, I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. When I started reading it I didn't think I would enjoy as much as I did, maybe because it's a short book...I don't know, but I'm really glad that I read it. Adrian is such a great character, your typical guy that is just out of college, just wants to hang out with his buddies and then go home to his girlfriend and then do his job. And when something this deep happens to him, I wasn't sure what to expect at first, will he screw up or act on it? Ah, I'm going to stop it, I really hope you guys give it a try and read it because you will enjoy, especially if you like paranormal stuff.
And that will do for my review.
Adrian starts this story out as a somewhat immature young adult. He has just finished his Master's degree and manages to land a teaching job at a prestigious school in his hometown. He and girlfriend Lea move into the house that was left to him by his late grandmother.
I almost ditched this book because I could see some glaring issues with dialog; I'm glad I continued reading. Once I hit my stride, I could see an improvement in the writing, and a sneaking suspense crept its way into the story; I couldn't stop reading with the mayhem that ensued.
I don't want to say more because it could ruin the story for you. Make it through the first 20-30 pages and you'll be hooked. This ended up being a good read.
