Description
"A haunting portrayal of humanity, and a testament to how far one will go to please others and survive."
In When the Iris is Pink, a teenage boy is forced to reconcile what he knows and what he thinks he knows when he finds out that he might be infected with the virus that he was told caused the end of the world. He must attempt to survive while also attempting to please his puritanical and self-centered parents, all while caring for his young siblings. This is a story about truths, lies, perceptions, and survival, set in rural Washington State.
This is Oscar O'Rourke's third novella. He is a writer known for his fluid prose and cerebral, engaging storytelling. He generally writes in the horror, drama, and fantasy genres.

JEFF Y, FIVE STAR REVIEW (from Amazon):
"When Iris is Pink is a unique dystopian novella of fear, distrust, and misplaced faith. It delves into family dysfunction, cruelty, and angst. I found it thoroughly engaging, and I finished it in one day."
JTS, FIVE STAR REVIEW (from Amazon):
"A very engaging and well written tale about a family's fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic America whilst also trying to navigate life with a cruel and deplorable father and a crazy mother. Featuring an array of characters, both despised and pitied by the reader. Not a fast-paced story but plenty of plot ideas - I would love to see this storyline as a series of books. I really enjoyed this novella."
