4.5 Stars Hilarious! This book is a great gift idea for coffee lovers and perfect as a coffee table book. There's lots of fun and interesting info and even some picture guides on coffee beverages for beginners. The illustrations are pretty cool too. It ended too soon! Also, you should drink a cup while reading this...

A fun and quirky little book full of facts about coffee. This book would be ideal for any coffee addicts out there - a fab and quick read that left me feeling like I'd learnt something, and also with a smile. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the publishers via NetGalley.
Coffee Gives Me Superpowers is an entertaining read, filled with fun facts about one of the most popular beverages on the planet. Cute graphics illustrate facts about the beloved bean, many drawn directly from Ryoko Iwata's popular website, I Love Coffee. Fans of the Oatmeal will be delighted by the poem “If Coffee was My Boyfriend”, which he illustrates.
Ryoko Iwata's book is light hearted and doesn't take itself seriously. Coffee Gives Me Superpowers will appeal to coffee drinkers as well as fans of Iwata's website “I Love Coffee” and The Oatmeal.

As an unrepentant caffeine addict (or as I now know to call it - a caffeine aficionado), I was prepared to love this book even if it turned out to be little more than lists upon lists of statistical data about my favorite beverage.
But the author of Coffee Gives Me Superpowers has made this experience into so much more. Mark this down as the first time in a long time I've laughed so hard I cried while reading a book. Mark this down as the first time I've ever laughed as hard reading a non-fiction of this sort. Every single finding, data or a piece of fact represented is followed by a comment given in such an offhand manner and so hilarious at the same time that it made me want to buy several editions of the book so I could frame different pages. They'd look good on my wall. Next to all the coffee shelves.
The addition of actual references in the end was an unexpected treat for the research-freak in us all (or maybe that's just me).
The only reason this isn't a 5-star read is that in ebook format on my Kindle, some pages (and some entire chapters) were jumbled up and virtually unreadable, so there were parts of the book which still escape me. Would I still buy this in physical format? Absolutely. In fact, I just might. It would certainly solve the formatting issue.
This book is filled with lots of neat coffee trivia, statistics and even a few recipes and quizzes in a beautiful collection of info graphics. Generally speaking, I love info graphics! I actually had some pretty interesting conversations stem from the contents of this book. The following topics were the most interesting to me (although the book covers a lot more): beer vs. coffee, honeybees and caffeine, where does the phrase "cup of joe" come from, what different professions prefer to drink and what's the point of the plate under the cup?
The only thing I wished this book did better was included the recipe portion amounts for some of the drinks (some of the info graphics were self explanatory like 50/50 or just add whipped cream on top but others not so much); however, the recipes were a small portion of the book. If you're reading this book... it's not for the recipes. It's for the interesting information about it.
This was such a fun book about something I really love, coffee. I took my coffee beans out of the refrigerate after I've read it. I laughed and I learned. I was over to fast but I just liked every bit of it. I will be buying this as soon as it comes out and give it as gift to my coffee loving friends. Excellent.
This was such a fun little book for coffee lovers! Obviously I read it while enjoying my morning coffee. It's filled with lots of fun facts and tid-bits that you may or may not know about coffee, it's origin, history, and social ties.
The pros are that the book is super cute, fun and quick to read. I'm thinking of a few friends and family members now who might be seeing this as birthday gifts. The cons, the pictures didn't show up well in my ereader version and the text was kinda wonky. However, receiving this as an ARC through Netgalley, I'm grateful and won't hold that against the text. So. That didn't stop my from enjoying the overall feel of the book. There were a few facts I questioned (does coffee make your boobs SMALLER?!) and the sources were a bit iffy? But still I enjoyed the book and that wouldn't stop me from passing it around for the fun of it. :)
I am a coffee addict, so it is not a surprise that I could not resist a book with the title "Coffee Gives Me Superpowers". A caffeine fueled book, laced with info-graphics and drawings by The Oatmeal, this book is a must have conversation piece for anyone who enjoys coffee! Containing a mixture of interesting information and fun facts from around the world, as well as humorous insights in the stranger side of loving coffee - what has an elephant to do with coffee? - I can hardly wait to hand a copy of it to friends and family. This is not just a dry trivia book about one of the worlds favorite beverages, it is a fun little treasure. Perfect hostess gift!

This is a book any coffee drinker will absolutely LOVE!! It teaches in an informative and creative manner while making you laugh out loud repeatedly in public....I did this repeatedly while reading this book.
I was orignially drawn to the title but am VERY impressed with the book as a whole. I am going to buy a copy for myself and one to lend out to my coffee addicted friends.
5/5 stars!!
Note: I recieved this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Coffee Gives Me Superpowers is an entertaining and educational coffee table book about coffee. How can you go wrong? I admit that I chose this book based on the title and the cute cover, and I got exactly what I expected. I learned a few fun facts, like the optimum time of day to indulge in coffee, and that coffee is technically made out of fruit. So, that must make it healthy right? There were also a couple of disturbing facts, like the most expensive coffee in the world being made from elephant poop. Yeah, I won't be partaking of that. There is also an interesting little section on what your coffee drink of choice says about your personality. See if it fits you. I have to say it wasn't accurate for me, but I may be unusual. There are also some interesting historical facts included, like where the term "cup of joe" comes from, and the times gone by use of the saucer.
This book is a very quick read and I daresay you could read it in its entirety while sipping a single cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the kindle version is not formatted properly in the eARc and therefore I had a hard time reading a small portion of the text. Also, the illustrations didn't show correctly, or sometimes at all, and that slowed down the read. I actually went to the author's blog to view the illustrations there to get the complete view of what the finished book will look like. Because the book is so short it was easy to do that, however. Even with the technical glitches, I enjoyed the lighthearted take on the ever popular beverage. If you are a coffee lover, grab this book and a cup of joe, and you may learn some fun new things about your favorite drink. If you love a coffee lover, you may get a little insight into what makes them such a fan.
I read this digitally but I bet reading it in print would be lots better. Sometimes books are just meant to be printed! This was a great fun read. I learned a lot of new things and enjoyed the tone of the book very much. I would recommend this book as a great gift for a coffee lover or a entertaining read for yourself.
Not quite what I expected, but fun. The book is mostly a collection of interesting facts about coffee. My favorite is the comic by Matthew Inman at the end.
A humorous, fun read with plenty of enjoyable facts for coffee lovers. Readers not aware of the website will have a blast with it’s light and humorous nature. Those who are already fans of the site might get a kick out of finding some great posts/ new content. I am disappointed as The Oatmeal clearly illustrated some of the book, yet they do not get cover credit?
This book is freakin hilarious! This might just turn out to be one of my top books of the year. I know that I was missing something by reading the Netgalley version of this - no cute colorful pictures, but I still loved this book!
I might have to go and buy this one... and buy one for the daughter.
But this book is not just all fun and games, there is also tons of info about coffee that even I, a professed coffee-aholic, did not know.
If you are a coffee lover at all - you definitely need to get this book! This would make a great gift for the coffee lover on your list.
Ok, so I admit that I don’t actually like coffee - but I certainly do like this book! It is full of fun facts about coffee presented in an easy to read, humorous fashion with fantastic illustrations and a wide variety of presentation styles used. It gives lots of advice, such as when is the best time to drink coffee, calorific values of Starbucks beverages, that coffee is a natural pesticide, the history of coffee . . . . the list goes on! The facts are shared in a really enjoyable manner, encouraging the reader to delve further into this fascinating book. I found out lots that I’d previously not known, it is certainly a book I’d consider buying for some of my coffee addicted friends and family, too! Definitely worth taking a look at!
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really love this book!! It's a funny read, the illustrations are so colorful and cool, the facts are so interesting and the whole book makes you enjoy it and want more and more coffee!!! It's is a great gift idea for coffee lovers and I hope that maybe someday I'll find it also in Spanish!
Thank you for sharing this title on NetGalley. NetGalley has become an important tool for helping me find new materials for our library.
An absolute must have for coffee lovers!
The illustrations are fun, entertaining and informative but also really beautiful and well done. It's a piece of illustrative art about one of my favorite things. Can't go wrong there. But even if you not a coffee lover like me, it's a great coffee table book to have.
I for one can't wait for the release so I can get my own hardcopy.
Brightly colored and wonderfully illustrated, you'll find this book both engrossing because of the information and as addictive as coffee itself! I found myself going back to the book again and again. I told myself it was because I wanted to re-read the the fun and informative facts, but honestly I enjoy the bright colors and the presentation and the overall entertaining way everything is presented.
Perfect for gift-giving or just a great book to present yourself with, Coffee Gives Me Superpowers will have you coming back again and again to make you smile, shake your head, and just overall enjoy!
This is the perfect book for coffeeholics, coffee lovers, coffee worshipers, or whatever you call us coffee drinkers. I personally chose this book from Netgalley's list because, obviously, I'm a heavy coffee drinker. But I have to admit, even though I drink coffee a lot (I consume about 4 cups of black every day), I haven't done any extensive research about this soulful beverage. Yes, I describe it soulful because every sip of coffee I take, I feel my soul enlightened and happy :)
Coffee Gives Me Superpowers is a great book. I learned tons and tons of stuff about my fave drink. Did you know the most expensive coffee ever in the whole world? Hint: In involves elephants. Whoa! That was a shocker to me actually! The book contained a lot of trivia and interesting infographics, too. The illustrations are fabulous!
I was drinking my 2nd cup of coffee when I was reading this book. Coincidence? Nah.. That's really what I always do when I read. Coffee & Book is always a great pair. This is perfect!
The cover is so sweet :)
I learned many surprising facts about coffee. I highly recommend the book for coffee lovers.
Also it shows different variaties of coffees and what/how much they include.
'Coffee Gives Me Superpowers' by Ryoko Iwata is indeed (as the the subtitle says) 'and Illustrated Book about the Most Awesome Beverage on Earth.' For those of us in love, or enslaved, to the drink, this book is an exuberant love story.
In a series of humorous and informative graphics you'll learn whether you should put coffee in your face right now, or when the best time to drink coffee is. There are graphics showing which state has the most Starbucks and coffee myths and facts. There are humorous things about the 6 worst types of coffee drinkers or what your favorite coffee says about your personality. It finishes with a poem by Ryoko Iwata called 'If Coffee Were My Boyfriend' which is illustrated by The Oatmeal.
Iwata's style is so enthusiastic that you can't help but smile. The material is also out on her website at http://en.ilovecoffee.jp/ It's a light read that would be a perfect gift book for that caffeine junkie in your life, and at a price under ten bucks, it costs only a little more than their favorite coffee beverage.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this fun ebook.
The book is every coffee lover's delight. And even if coffee isn't your cup of tea, you'll find the book packed with a highly enjoyable combination of fun and facts.
If you ever wanted to know, what has really the better effect on your brain, beer or coffee? or when is actually the best time during the day to drink coffee (I got it wrong) or how many cups of coffee you need to drink on a day to reach a lethal dosis, this is the book to go for.
You will gain the knowledge why there's the plate under your coffee (got that one wrong, too) and the calories in Starbucks drinks leave me wondering why on earth is there no Peppermint White Chocolate Mocca available in the UK? It sounds so delicious, but never mind the calories.
And I was stunned to find out that honey bees are nature's little coffee addicts and why they love the stuff as much as I do.
Coffee gives me superpowers is as enjoyable as a freshly brewed drink of your favourite variety and even better, no calories.
“Sip it slowly. This Book is highly caffeinated.”
A simple richly colored graphic book on the scene of coffee and more. Clear easy to rad graphs fill the pages, cute characters and true science.
Beer is good for coming up with ideas, coffee is good for get productive with those ideas, too much of either one is not good. Who would have expected this comparison ? How about when is the best time to drink coffee ? Yes, there is a science behind that and I went with it. It was right. Drinking coffee at the wrong time build up a tolerance to it. Small adjustments will keep me rushing all day.
There is fun, funny LOL fun. The worst drinkers is perfect, the author nailed it. I might be part stress junkie. If you get between me and my coffee there is a very good chance you are squirrel food. Additives, flavorings and sweetness, may kill you some day. LOL ! Oh the poem of love at the end. Hilarious.
Facts, facts facts, there are a lot of interesting facts to make you sound like the perfect coffee snob at any coffee house. How much America drinks, how much is traded, most expensive, most coffee houses, and more. Did you know coffee is actually a fruit ? Yes, it is, I’m counting it. Did you know caffeine is a pest control ? Luckily we aren’t pests. Wait till you read about the bees. Mistakes you might be making, covered. Why is coffee called a cup of joe ?

This book was very interesting, it had a lot of facts i was not aware and the comparison sbout was neat.
I haven't read Iwata's blog, so I was pretty happy with this book. It's definitely not a long, captivating read, but it was pleasant and would be cute for a coffee table (pun intended). I do think that some of the fonts were more difficult to read than others. Cute, but more difficult to read.
