I love a book that leads you from ordinary to eerie without a jolt. It was a great tale well told, with enough action to be exciting, but also with thought provoking themes. The primary characters were engaging, and I loved the hopeful tone of the epilogue. I'll likely look for other books by this author.
Serendipity is a wonderful thing!
I received a free reading copy from Net Galley and little did I know that this book's setting was CU Boulder and Surroundings - but maybe not all in the current time.
This book is plain fun. I loved the characters, the strange aliens and Ghoul, and especially Khan, the world's ugliest dog. The ideas were sophisticated and smart. It reminded me a little bit of a Larry Niven book and a little bit of a Tex Murphy adventure, both favorites of mine.
Highly recommend to sci-fi fans.
I received this free from Netgalley for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. Very enjoyable. I love books that I can't figure out what is going to happen next. This is one of those kind of books. I will definitely be looking for more books by these authors.
The worlds most stubborn dog, a slobbering hard to get moving fellow by the name of Genghis Khan, is frequently walked by collage student Richard Johnson. The dog belongs to his Landlady. Richard is very, very down on his "luck" as they say. His life isn't working out like he planned, he is falling behind in his classes, things are rocky at best with his gal, and his transportation has been stolen. To top it off, the neighbor really bothers him. He nick named him "The Ghoul". This guy puts a whole interesting twist on having a strange and scary neighbor, one who houses a portal to the future in his bathroom. (Of all the most inconvenient places it could be!)
Enter the portal that views clues to the end of human kind, if you dare. You will not be able to predict what is coming next, as each twist and turn arises, with major challenges to overcome and possibly, just maybe, mankind to be saved. I really enjoyed the non-predictability mixed with all the Sci-Fi elements as well as scientific ones.
My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.
Entertaining premise of aliens living among us and in other versions of the future.
I have to say that I am not a big Sci-fi fan, but this cover and description had me intrigued. I read this book through Netgalley (lovely website), and it was very interesting. Focuses on an average guy, who discovers adventure through a wormhole, in the bathroom!!! There were parts, that were very scientific and a little over my head, but I followed along well. I love Khan and actually wished there was more of him! Thank you for a delightful read!
The characters had go dynamic and you felt something for every one of them, even the bad guys. I would recommend this to sci-fi fans and readers who love a little adventure. I would read more by this author.
Really enjoyed this light story about alien invasion and the end of mankind (Written more light-hearted than the subject matter implies.) Gripping sci-fi/fantasy with a very old school feel to it. The story reminded me of reading an old Asimov or Ben Bova story or perhaps a David Brin. A definite recommendation for fans of those types of stories. My one small criticism is that the female character, Summer, was never really developed. She existed purely as a love interest and motivator for the young man that was the main character and narrator. I wish the authors could have used a bit of their skill at fleshing out her and the three other supporting characters as well. I still wonder about the motivations of the aliens. Still despite this I'd love to read more by these authors and in this "universe".
