Interrogation room Santa Rita State Hospital Dr. Elinor Barry, a forensic therapist, has been sent to interview Dr. Frank Enari to determine if he is criminally insane. She has 9 days. Dr. Enari is a tenured co-chairman of the Department of Physiology at the University of California.
Earlier at Tower Mountain Research Station in the eastern Sierras:
Dr. Enari and his academic research partner, Dr. Robert Jones were greeted by Dr. Ryan Horner when they arrived at the station. They were told a colony of monkeys had been established at extremely high altitude to study the effect of stress from living in limited atmosphere. The study results would benefit space exploration. Two months ago, Howard Vogel had been sent alone to the facility for the winter. Two weeks ago, they had received strange, rambling radio calls and then nothing. There is finally a break in the weather, Enari and Jones were being sent in rescue the caretaker and check on the welfare of the monkeys.
Summit Laboratory
The facility came into view, bleak and half buried in the snow. The helicopter landed and they made their way to the lonely Quonset hut.
