Description

In life there are choices…

Spinster Iris Hedley was once the darling of the ton until her father lost his fortune through an illness of the mind. Reduced to living as a penniless guest while her father rots in debtors prison, she’s determined to escape unscrupulous robbers who’ve set her to spy on the ton by the only means possible—by becoming a wealthy mans mistress. Unfortunately for Iris, her proper upbringing never covered intimacy or seduction so she asks the one man she trusts for help with private lessons in the duties of a mistress.

…in love there is but one

Martin Andrews, the Earl of Louth, may have a soft spot for tiny Iris Hedley, especially after her father fled London with a horde of debtors nipping at his heels. Her request for lessons in seduction leaves him reeling and although tempted it’s an offer he must refuse for her own good. Convinced she’s headed for heartbreak, he sets out to prove that surrendering to wicked pleasure is not worth the sacrifice of her future only to discover that her problems are more complicated than his own.

A sizzling regency historical romance novel.

I absolutely loved this book! The romance was sweet, the hero was swoon worthy, and the heroine was smart and brave. The love scenes were hot and steamy!
Iris has secrets, her father is in debtor's prison, but society believes he is hiding out on the continent. She is also being blackmailed into giving secrets to a man who will hurt her father if she doesn't help him rob member's of the tons houses. Iris wants to find a way to get away from her blackmailer and save up enough money to get her father out of prison. She decides that she will become a wealthy man's mistress because she doesn't believe that any man will want to marry her now.
Martin also has secrets, his former mistress has died during child birth and has left a daughter behind, which he thinks may be his child. Martin has another problem, Iris who he is attracted to has propositioned him to let her become his next mistress. She also is asking for lessons on how to seduce a man if he won't agree to become her protector. He lets Iris believe that he doesn't want her for a mistress, but he doesn't want her to be a mistress to him or any other man; he wants her for his wife.
There is a good amount of steamy love scenes and conflict in this book. I really liked that most of the time the Martin and Iris talked to each other and were honest when they felt they could be. There were no silly misunderstandings that didn't make sense. Even when things were tough they still liked each other and wanted to fall deeper in love. I really want to read more of the Distinguished Rogues series and many more of Heather Boyd's books!

Many years ago I became hooked on historicals after reading Laurie McBain's book, Devil's Desire. Various authors through the years have fed my addiction. After reading Heather Boyd's fantastic story in An Improper Proposal I know my addiction will continue. Ms Boyd has given us a well written book that includes great characters, drama, a bit of action and let's not forget the sexy bits. I loved this book from cover to cover and I'm glad to have another writer of historical novels to follow. I look forward to reading more from Heather Boyd. An Improper Proposal is a complete book, NOT a cliff-hanger.

This is the first book I have read from Heather Boyd but I am now hunting down more of hers! This is actually the sixth book in the series "Distinguished Rogues". To me this is a standalone book so don't be worried if you, like me haven't read the books in order. The heroine, Iris Hedley has fallen on hard times due to her father and his debts. Which has put her on the path to where she ends up asking the hero, Martin Andrews, the Earl of Louth some questions and his help. I like how her friend, Esme tried to help her the best she could. This is a great read and I am so glad to have it... now to get the other books!
