I cannot get enough of this fiendishly clever series that mixes period photos with a powerhouse storyline
If you are in love with the previous books as much as I am this preview will not disappoint! Can't wait to ready the rest!
I hate that this is only a sample because it's just teased me enough to want to finish the book in one night. Yet again, Ransom Riggs has delivered a novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seat and hiding under the covers from all the creepy things that could be lurking.
Just as brilliant as the other two, this "taster" of what is to be released in Sept leaves the reader wanting more.. Jakob, Emma and the talking dog Addison are hot on the trail of their kidnapped friends while simultaneously being pursued by wrights and a terrible Hollow. Jakob quickly learns he has a hidden talent; he can control the Hollow's actions, but not all the time which is frustrating . The sampler ends with the three travelling with Sharon in a boat to the worst alternate world where apparently tgeir friends have been taken.
Riggs proves once again how imaginative and quirky a writer he is, in this short sample. The trio fleeing through crowds at Comic Con is inspired and their encounter with a nerd in an elevator hilarious. So too is the introduction of Sharon, tour guide to Hell with a wicked sense of irony, and it seems (in his own words), "going a bit soft in his old age" when he agrees to help our heroes. Cannot wait for the book to be published!
I have to say upfront that this book is very anticipated by a few of my students and myself. Reading this small section of the third book in the series had me excited to read it in its entirety. From what I have read I know I am going to enjoy it greatly when it is complete. This opens up a new talent of the beloved main character and new adventures for my favorite peculiars! I cannot wait to read the rest and share it with my students as well as fellow teachers and friends.
What I loved most about this was the explanation of terms in the front. Being in a classroom this can be a very important and helpful tool for my students. I cannot say for sure if I will be using this book for a lesson or not because I have not read it in its entirety because this is a sampler, but I do know I will be buying a copy regardless for the classroom library.
