Description
Gianni Sarcone dissects the most mystifying and magical illusions, revealing the logic behind their patterns and tiling, and explaining how they work. He delves into the importance of blank spaces, negative space, interferences, repetitive geometric textures, and more—all part of the palette an "op artist" uses to produce powerful illusions and visual surprises. Draw curves that diverge and converge, diamonds that vibrate and flicker, hypnotic spirals, "ghosts" and ambiguous figures, and other astonishing illusions. You'll even learn how to produce the "impossible": perplexing images of things that could and should not exist in the real world—but can come straight out of your imagination to live on the page. And illustrating all the instructions are Sarcone's own magnificent pieces. They include recent and revisited optical effects, plus demonstrations and tips for inspiration.

This is a great book on optical illusions, I originally was interested in it for my fabric screenprinting, and it does fill my needs, but I think anyone who is interested in graphic design would find it helpful, as would any hand artist. I was blown away by a picture of Dr Einstein which turns into a couple having a picnic - look again and it is Dr Einstein. There is a lot to look at and be surprised, use of pattern, overlays, clever use of photographs, using negative space and much more. This book was provided free in return for a honest and unbiased review.
I might as well buy four or five copies of this book right off. This is never going to be on the shelves and I'll have the kids fighting for it. I suspect that this is a book that leave the library for the last time with all the pages falling out. Kids love optical illusions and these instructions are so clear, that I think this book will be well worth having.
Pretty cool book. I had just started getting into Zentangles when I saw this book. Zentangles aren't optical issues per se, but there are some similarities between some of the Zentangle designs and optical illusions. I thought this was another avenue for my drawing lessons. This book easily explains how to do some really interesting illusions and they came out pretty good, if I do say so myself. To borrow a phrase from my daughter, this book was 'very satisfying'.. :-) Enjoy!
