Description
Angie Curtis and the Mainely Needlepointers are all too familiar with the Gardener estate. The crumbling Victorian mansion, known as "Aurora," has been sitting vacant for nearly twenty-five years--and some say it's haunted by the ghost of Jasmine Gardener, the teenage girl who died there in 1970 under mysterious circumstances...
Harbor Haven is abuzz with excitement when Hollywood actress Skye West decides to buy Aurora and sell off its furnishings. And Angie is intrigued when Skye asks her to appraise the estate's sizable collection of needlepoint pictures. But the more she examines the pieces, the more they seem to point toward Jasmine's murder--and the murderer--and it's up to her to stitch the clues together. . .
Advance Praise
“Deep atmosphere, secrets from the past and a mystery interview with sharp plotting and well-developed, sympathetic characters create another winner in the second of the Mainly Needlepoint Mysteries. The strong writing has elements of excellently written women’s fiction. Wait’s descriptions of needlework and the mansion are so lyrical the reader can see and feel them. Tension grows as the past reaches into the present.”– RT Book Reviews, 4.5 Stars Top Pick

There’s big excitement in Harbor Haven when the elegantly decaying Gardener estate, known as Aurora is purchased by big time Hollywood actress Skye West. Angie Curtis and her group of Mainely needlepointers are just as interested as everyone else – the old estate had been vacant for decades, there were even rumors of a ghost. Teenage Jasmine Gardner, who died mysteriously in 1970, is said to walk the halls. Imagine Angie’s excitement when Sky asks her to help appraise the needlepoint treasures in Aurora. But Angie gets more than she bargained for when all signs point to the fact that Jasmine was murdered – and if she’s not careful, Jasmine won’t be the only ghost to walk the mansion. Lea Wait writes Maine as only a Mainer can, with authenticity, humor and style.
This is a wonderful series for cozy readers and needleworkers alike. Set in Maine, Angie and her grandmother are embroiled in another murder case, this one 45 years old. When a movie star with local roots buys the crumbling estate, Aurora, someone in town wants her dead. Angie and her needleworking friends solve the case by reading the clues in old needlework pictures stitched by the former owner. A quick read because the story moves so smoothly.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and it will not be my last. What a wonderful cozy mystery. It sucked me in from the beginning and held my interest until the end. Yes, we follow along with the main character as she talks with suspects, so we meet them and hear them along with her Q &As. It also does not follow the typical romance on the side as so many do nowadays. She has plenty of choices, but nothing pushed out in front as a main side story. It was a nice change, as so many today throw that in right away. This is the second book in the series, and yes, I want to read the first one now, but did not feel lost by not reading that one first. Would highly recommend, if you like stories of Maine, crafters (here it is needlepoint), solving 45 year old crimes, and a delicious recipe for maple bread pudding.
A great cozy that shows the charm of Maine quite accurately, featuring needlework and intrigue.
Angie, her grandmother, and the people of Harbor Haven jump right out of the pages and keep the story bright and entertaining until the very end. This story is well worth the read for mystery fans, but also would be greatly enjoyed by those who prefer popular fiction.
Wait gives the reader everything they are looking for in this comfortable cozy. The reader can enjoy beautiful Maine settings and likable characters. A good read in this second installment for this series.
This book was a fabulous book. It grabbed me from the very beginning and held my attention all the way through. Even with the satisfying conclusion there were just enough teasers to keep me anxiously anticipating the next in the series. I'm going back and pick up the first book to enjoy even more! I highly recommend it!
In the second Mainely Needlepoint mystery, Angie is asked to look at and restore needlepoint pictures from the Gardner estate which has been recently purchased by actress Skye West. There was a murder there in 1970 and Skye asks Angie to look into it, but why? This is a fun, well written mystery series with great characters!
