The latest installment in the Big Nate series will be a big hit for all readers. Nate is super adorable in the vein of Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes. The book is full of comic strips that will keep you giggling and snorting throughout. My kids ages 8, 10 and 11 loved it, and I know your kids will love it too!
I've been reading Big Nate books for over a decade. They're a fast and easy to read, nothing offensive for kids. A little snark, but nothing serious.
In this book, Nate's grandparents visit his school and we find out where some of that precocious snark comes from. We also get a glimpse of what happens when Nate really tries and actually studies.
A great addition to the Big Nate canon.
Stayed true to all the other big nate books!
Definite addition to library
This is a graphic novel/comic book geared to middle grade students. Nate is in the 6th grade and he is that child that is always questioning, getting detentions and just a little obnoxious. There are stories that go on for several pages and some that are four panels short and sweet. This book takes us through Nate's everyday activities from school days, summer holidays and his interactions with both his friends and other adults in his life. I loved the story about the cheez doodles. One serving is 6.5 doodles and Nate just could not deal with that. His father is a healthy food advocate. We meet his dog who is afraid of squirrels, his friends and his family. His interactions with the brainy Gina, his interactions with the teachers and other staff at his school and his hilarious attempts at various sports will all give kids a laugh and they will be able to identify with the characters in this book. The cartoons are cute and colourful.
My nine year old son is a huge fan of the Big Nate series, and eagerly devoured this latest edition. He was particularly captivated by the storyline in which Nate's grandparents visit Nate's school, providing a fresh and intergenerational perspective on territory Lincoln Peirce has explored over the course of numerous books. Peirce's drawing and storytelling abilities continue to progess; his work demonstrates a mix of influences from Bill Waterson's Calvin and Hobbes to early 19th century newspaper cartoonists.
I found this to be really cute and fun. It was a great introduction to Nate's world. You get to meet his friends and family. You learn what he likes (baseball) and what he hates (social studies). If you have a middle grader who is hesitant about reading this would be a great one to help get them started .
I think this is the funniest Big Nate book so far. I love his grandparents going through the school. I'll have to buy multiple copies of this.
Another great addition to the “Big Nate” series of books! This one introduces readers to lots of different aspects of Big Nate’s world - from members of his family, his friends, school, his teachers . . . you get the idea! The book comprises of lots of short comic strip style stories all starring Big Nate. They are hilarious, entertaining, colourful and appeal to young and old alike. They are a quick read, something children can ‘dip’ into and enjoy.
The stories are well structured, beautifully illustrated and very entertaining. They are one of those brilliant series that can actually help motivate reluctant readers to want to learn how to do so because they want to be able to access these stories independently. As usual with this type of book, I really wish more were produced with upper and lower case text to enable struggling readers to find it easier to access the text. Apart from that, my standard gripe, a great series which entertains and encourages children to read!
Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute little comic for younger readers. The illustrations were great and the story was funny. I think a lot of middle grade readers would enjoy this. Parents sound feel comfortable letting their children read this book.
4 stars.
Another addition to the immensely popular 'Big Nate' series and it seems the ideas are still flowing from creator Lincoln Peirce.
Funny, imaginative, and still hitting all the salient issues that effect your average 7-12 year old.
I really wouldn't recommend it for anyone either side of those age groups, and I know that my own son, who has loved this series since book 1, has enjoyed them all, several times over.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
My oldest daughter is eight years old, and she loves comics and graphic novels. She has always loved Lincoln Peirce’s Big Nate comics. She looks forward to reading the latest strip in the Sunday paper, and she often checks Big Nate books out from both the town library and her school’s library.
So, when I received an opportunity to read an advanced copy of Big Nate’s latest adventure Welcome to My World, I was very excited because I knew she would love it.
Welcome to My World follows Nate, a sixth grade student. He’s a bit of an underachiever, but he makes up for it with a good sense of humor. The book is mostly made up of four panel strips, but there are also some eight-panel strips. There are several storylines, including Nate’s grandparents visiting PS 38 for Grandparents’ Day, Nate working hard to get a perfect score on his history final in order to get a B in the class, Nate taking a Junior Lifeguard class, and more. Nate is hapless, but likeable, in the same way that comic strip greats Calvin and Charlie Brown- and even Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid- are likeable.
My daughter absolutely loved this book, especially because it was full color- “just like in the [news]paper”. She laughed and laughed- not just giggling, but full-out cackling. She said that she appreciated that there was a punchline in the last panel of each page. Her favorite part was when Nate’s grandparents visited his school, and she said it made her wish that she could have Grandparents’ Day at her school.
I would absolutely recommend Big Nate: Welcome to My World. This is a fun comic strip that holds a special appeal for children because they can directly relate to Nate’s everyday experiences. Older readers can also appreciate the humor: when are orange cheezy puffs not funny?
Loved this so much! It is one of my favourite comics and being able to read a longer version made me smile. I smily devoured it. Can't wait for more!
Our favorite little big man is back in school to continue his reign as detention king in this laugh filled collection.
The book starts off with Nate's grandparents coming over for Grandparents Day at school and goes on to follow Nate through baseball training, summer, and even Halloween (by the way NO ONE should ever trick or treat at Nate's house, no candy, HORROR).
Just to enjoy it even more we get a kick of watching Nate bet his life he'll get a perfect score on an exam.
I'm big fan of Nate Wright, this little guy is so witty and hilarious that you can't not love him.
Rating 5 out of 5 Read@Book
Big Nate flies off the shelf at my Library and this title will be a wonderful addition to my collection.
'Big Nate: Welcome to My World' by Lincoln Peirce is another laugh out loud collection featuring Big Nate and his friends and teachers.
Featured this time are strips about grandparent's day at P.S. 38 when Nate brings his grandparent's to school. Also Nate's attempts to get his dad to hand out candy at Halloween instead of tofu, and to make him fun lunches so that he can trade other kids for things. Nate works on becoming a lifeguard. He even gets a tutor to try to get 100% on his social studies test.
I'm a fan of these collections. I recommend them to friends of mine with younger readers, and they seem to be a big hit.
