This is a cute little non-fiction book about Groundhogs and Groundhog Day. The text is short, perfect for emerging readers. The children will find out about groundhogs, what they eat, when they sleep etc. as well as what happens on Groundhog Day. This would be a great companion book to the fictional "It's Groundhog Day, Dear Dragon" by the same publisher. At the end of the book there are activities a teacher or caregiver could do with the reader as well as a list of words used in the book.
This is a simple, non-fiction book about Groundhog Day. Perfect for 1st/2nd grade, which I found to be a hard age group to find non-fiction for. It has large pictures and just 1-3 sentences on each set of pages. This is a great addition to a classroom library, or would be perfect for a small reading group. It even has a cause/effect lesson in the back.
We cover Groundhogs in our book club with kindergartners. Therefore, I know exactly how hard it is to find a good groundhog book. This is a good book about Groundhog Day and I think our library needs it.
Wonderful addition to a great series of books. Colored photographs and simple text make this book a perfect introduction to Groundhog Day for non- or early readers.
A nice book for February. The kids will enjoy being able to read a science book about something they hear about as a holiday. The extra ideas at the back will be useful for the teachers, but I think it would be more fun for the kids to be able to just read the book and enjoy the information.
I just love the adorable photographs of the cute little creatures in Groundhog Day by Mary Lindeen. Between the pictures and the simple text, this is the perfect book to introduce the young child to the concepts behind this fun holiday. Emergent readers will be able to recognize numerous sight words and will enjoy participating in the suggested enrichment activity. A part of a series of beginning reader nonfiction books by Lindeen, it is meant to be paired with the fiction selection, It's Groundhog Day, Dear Dragon by Margaret Hillert. Both books are a great way to foster a love of reading in the young child.
