This is a good compilation of stories by multiple authors, with great tales of wounded men, brought back to life by great women, with wonderful HEA. great introduction to the writing styles of the authors, and a great way to find some new favorite writers.

This anthology was previously published in 2004, but having said that. I had not read it before and enjoyed the short stories immensely. The stories are sweet, sad and all have a happy ending. A good choice when your reading time is limited and you are in the mood for a moving story.

A wonderful collection of authors and stories. A wide range of different timelines (a little something for everyone) and some hunky heroes.

THE JOURNEY HOME, is a compilation of nine different short stories by nine different authors. All of the stories have one thing in common; they deal with a wounded warrior coming home after war. There is something for everyone as the genres range from historical romance to futuristic sci-fi, and everywhere in between.

My personal favorites were the stories that took place in different wars throughout American History, starting with the Revolutionary War in “Another Man’s Shoes” by Candice Kohl. British soldier Nicholas Sutcliffe finds a mortally wounded colonial soldier after a battle near Savannah. While trying to comfort the man in what would be his last minutes, he finds out that his name is also Nicholas and he loves a girl named Annie. Through fate, British Nicholas comes to know Colonial Nicholas’ girl, Annie, and he finds himself drawn into the dead soldier’s life.

We visit the Civil War in “A Better Man” by Mallory Kane. Confederate soldier Jared is rescued from his cell in a Union prison by his brother Rob on the night before his execution. Rob leads the injured soldier and his horse over the miles to home. Jared begins to feel that something isn’t right as the hours go on and on and he hasn’t seen anyone else on the road or a sunrise. He needs to decide if his confusion can be attributed to his periodic loss of consciousness and general fogginess due to his injuries, or is something else going on. Something he can’t even begin to understand.

In “Heart Crossings” by Linda Madl, Brian Mason’s twin sister Bethany died while he was overseas fighting in the Great War in 1918. Brian had made her a promise before he left that, if either one of them dies, the other would try to contact them on the other side. Brian didn’t believe in mediums or séances, but since he made a promise to Bethany, he contacted psychic Amanda Sherman when he returned home. Amanda sees a man who is hurting so badly, not only from the grief over his sister’s death, but due to the horrors he witnessed during the war. She vows to help him in any way she can.

“Home is Where the Heart Is” by Patricia Rice deals with a soldier returning from Viet Nam and we are brought into the present in “The Dreamer” by Diane Chamberlain. She writes about a soldier who lost his leg in Desert Storm.

“Shadow of the Rose” by Lucy Grijalva takes us England to avenge the death of King Richard III, and we visit the future in “A Hero’s Welcome” by Rebecca York. Cynthia Valero takes us to a fantasy world in “The Sacrifice,” and we travel through the universe in “The Shadowed Heart” by Catherine Asaro.

I found all of the stories well-developed, with characters you wanted to cheer for. All are heart-felt, and while they didn’t always end the way I would have wanted them to, the endings were logical and satisfying. This is a five star tribute to those who lay their lives on the line for their beliefs and their loved ones.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Love and loss

A raft of fascinating stories about the trials faced by men and women who went to war or find themselves in the middle of one and of the tribulations of those left behind and other such permeations. The stories range from the 1400's to sometime in the future and/or sometime in other worlds. The message of love and healing intertwined holds true for all the ages and places.
I really enjoyed:
Hero's Welcome by Rebecca York The Sacrifice by Cynthia Valero The Shadowed Heart by Catherine Asario
