Description
Two people, who regret their missed chance, just might get another…
Sexy Australian pro surfer Cooper Malone lives his dreams on beaches all over the world. While surfing is his passion, he can’t quite suppress the longing for a permanent home with the one woman he let slip away.
World traveler Maggie MacLean first laid eyes on Cooper in a crowded bar on the island resort of Bali six years ago. The sparks and sizzle nearly scorched her bikini, but she never had a chance to explore that intense attraction. Later, when Maggie’s pregnant by a man who wants nothing to do with their child, she puts her passport away and heads home to California to be the best mom she can be.
But when a possible career ending injury sidelines Cooper from his beloved waves, he moves in with the one friend he’s been able to count on. Maggie and Cooper have ignored the burn of attraction for six years. Maggie’s not willing to risk their friendship or her son’s heartbreak when Cooper inevitably leaves to compete, but what if this time Cooper stays and Maggie allows their second chance at love to flame?

Fantastic story. I LOVED Coopers story. In a way its a little sad because Maggie and Cooper loved each other for over 6 years. They should have hooked up 6 years before but thru a mistake, they didn't she got pregnant and instead they formed this great friendship.
The story starts as Cooper is majorly injured, so badly it might mean the end of his career. Maggie and her son are his pseudo family and they take care of him. It was very strange that none of his brothers visit at all. Yeah phone calls are great but he was hospitalized.
This book concluded the series and I truly loved every single one of them. The brothers are terrific and each story can stand alone and is just wonderful.
The Rebel is a heartwarming story of two long time friends who become much more. I enjoyed the main characters, Maggie Maclean and Cooper Malone, and Maggie's small son, Evan, was adorable. The romance between Maggie and Cooper was tender, yet the two had plenty of chemistry. I loved reading about Cooper's relationship and interactions with Evan. This was a very sweet and enjoyable romance.
Maggie Maclean's footloose existence ended when she discovered she was going to have a child. Since that time, she has led a very settled and responsible life, always putting her young son first. Cooper Malone has been her friend through all of those years, and Maggie has never let on that she wishes he could be more. Cooper, a professional surfer, has suffered an injury that has a strong possibility of being career ending. When released from the hospital, he goes home with Maggie to recuperate. Spending so much time in close quarters brings the feelings that both Maggie and Cooper have been trying to repress to the forefront. They have to decide whether to move forward as the friends they have been, or as more.
I enjoyed this book and will be reading more by the author. I liked the characters and cared about what happened to them. The storyline kept me interested and I was happy with the way everything was resolved. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
Loved this story! A good friends to lovers story always gets me and this is a good one. Adored Maggie and Cooper and Evan is about the cutest kid ever! Cooper first saw Maggie 6 years ago but before he could make his move his friend approached her and that was that! When an unexpected pregnancy happens and his now ex friend runs for the hills, Cooper steps in as friend and protector and they've stayed close. Now he's injured and staying with Maggie and Evan while he recuperates. Things get spicy fast but are they willing to risk their friendship for what might be more?? And what happens when he has to leave again?
This is definitely a book I recommend to everyone!
The Rebel is such an enjoyable read. It’s the down to earth story of two people who might have been more, but circumstances placed them in each other’s lives as friends.
Once she was a woman who took risks, lived her life like the wind settling in one place only long enough to earn the fare to the next destination. Now Maggie is content staying in one place, earning her living from an office at home and making a good life for herself and her son. For about six years now she and Cooper had been good friends. Friends, without benefits. Cooper had been there for her and her son from the beginning. They were a vital part of each other’s life but that is about to change.
Cooper has had his share of injuries. Riding the waves, competitions all over the world for all of his adult life, he had added to his inheritance, build a good investment for the future. Surfing was as necessary to him as the air he breathed. It had saved him long ago and had given him a good life, fame and brought one special woman into his life. Surfing was also why he was here in Maggie’s home, staying with her since he could barely take care of himself after the last stunt. His knee just couldn’t take the abuse any longer. And depending on his doctor’s evaluations and suggestions, no her ultimatums for his health, his days riding the waves could very well be over.
Cooper had flitted into and out of Maggie’s life over the last few years. He always came home between competitions, but she knew he’d never stay long. Now with Cooper recuperating at her home they were practically living together. And they both were dealing with emotions that went beyond friendship and more into acknowledging the love that they felt for each other. This was their second chance, now what were they going to do with it.
The Rebel is such a sweet journey for Cooper and Maggie. There are no dramatic highs and lows, simply two people who were attracted to each other from the first moment. A simple event kept them from exploring romance, even if only for one night. The decision of a selfish man, once Cooper’s friend would leave Maggie as a single parent raising her adorable son Evan on her own. Cooper became the bedrock, the man who would be there for the firsts in Evan’s life and a constant friend to Maggie. They never lost the attraction, but had settled into the best of friends life and neither wanted to rock that boat. When life changes for Cooper he finally takes the biggest risk of his life – for the biggest reward, Maggie and Evan.
A lively romance full of fun, sexy and adorable moments provided by five year old Evan. The Rebel is a perfect story for those who enjoy a simple love story with realistic people living life and finding a love to last a life time.
*I received an e-ARC of The Rebel from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
This is a superb good friends to lovers story with brilliant characters, plenty of history and a potential HEA together. The author has the magic recipe for ensuring her stories have just the right mix of chemistry, passion, angst, turmoil and excitement to make this a story that keeps you rooting for the couple right to the very last page. The characters are well developed, believable and easy to empathise with - even little Evan! A thoroughly entertaining read that I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone looking to escape into a great book.
Six years ago pro surfer Cooper Malone first met Maggie MacLean in a crowded Bali bar. Unfortunately his surfer buddy, Vance, picked her up and left Cooper with Maggie’s friend. As a result of that encounter, Maggie ended up pregnant with Vance’s child - well, his ex-friend because, unlike Cooper, Vance didn’t want to have anything to do with Maggie or their child. Cooper, however, kept in touch with Maggie, buying a home near to her and visiting regularly between surfing competitions. Maggie and Cooper are now best friends, always there for each other in times of need and Maggie’s son, Evan, looks up to him as a fantastic male role model in his life. Now Cooper has a serious knee injury and Maggie is taking him to her home to look after. The two have ignored their attraction to each other for six years but will their friendship now have the opportunity to grow into something more? Will Cooper’s injury mean he’ll be leaving again or staying for good?
This is the story of the romance for the third millionaire Mallone brother but you don’t have to have read them to appreciate this one. Having said that, I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all three books! The earlier two books in the series are ‘The Millionaire’ and ‘The CEO’ both of which I have previously read and reviewed.
Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thought the first 2 books were good but the 3rd is terrific. What a great guy Cooper is and quite unexpected. One would expect the vagabond playboy to not want to be burdened down by responsibilities, but this stand up guy takes on what isn't even his to bear.
Fellow wanderer Maggie is as amazing a woman as Cooper. She gives up her dreams of exploring the world, living each day as it comes to be a full time mom when she discovers she's pregnant. And though she may miss that life, she has never regretted it. Evan is a sweetheart and deserves as much as she can provide
The only thing missing is a man to depend on and when Cooper provides her with the opportunity she grabs on to it. Being in love with him for 6 years definitely helped in that decision besides the fact that they deserve each other and that they are perfect together.
Expect quite a few laughs because there is some great humor but do be ready for frequent sniffles as this book is filled with sweet and emotional awww gawsh! moments.
Until another knee injury forced him off the board, Cooper Malone was a world renowned, championship-winning pro surfer. He'd been hitting the waves since he was ten, and nothing stirred him like filling his lungs with salty air, and feeling the sun warm his back. He had endorsements, investments, and a lucrative business to go with all the fame, prestige, and fans. Yes, he had it all - just about.
Although she left that night with the wrong man, who wound up getting her pregnant and leaving her a single mother, Maggie MacLean has wanted Cooper Malone since the night she saw him and his best friend, and eventual father of her child, in a bar. Believing Cooper preferred her friend, she ended up with Vance, the only thing good coming out of the steamy night being her son Evan. Although Cooper stepped in as a father figure as soon as he found out what had transpired, they've never been more than close friends; and having a career that keeps him on the road in search of the next big wave, he's never been able to give them more than a few weeks out of the year of face-to-face time.
When his injury sends him to Maggie's house to recuperate, he gets a dose of the family life he's always wanted. As things between him and Maggie cross over the platonic line, he has to decide if he can give up the waves to provide the stability Maggie and her son need.
I was drawn to the characters and their story right from the beginning. Their relationship was honest, pure, and genuine, creating a strong foundation for the change. Maggie is a devoted mother, with a typical, loving little boy who adores the only man he's ever really known on a personal level. The connection between the trio is heartwarming and left me smiling. Their playful banter was entertaining, and their lovemaking like freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies - sweet and hot.
Purman does a good job putting the reader in scene with her satisfying descriptions.
I lost a little of my umph at the end. Of course, I was happy about the required happily-ever-after, but I didn't get the entire lump in my chest and only let out the ooohhh, no ahhhh.
It was a good read, and I think romance lovers would enjoy this salty-sweet tale.
The Rebel is the third in The Millionaire Malones series by talented South Australian author Victoria Purman.
There are three Malone brothers, heirs to the family fortune, and the family business. We met the brothers in The Millionaire and The CEO and now it's time for Cooper to have his chance to shine. We have learned a little about the professional surfer and baby of the family Cooper and now it's his turn to shine.
Cooper seemed to have run from his family and been living a nomadic life chasing the perfect wave. He returned briefly for his fathers funeral in The CEO and we learnt there was a friend in California that he wanted to get back to.
The Rebel opens with Cooper waking up in the hospital after one too many surfboard crashes. He has ruptured a ligament in his knee, and sprained it, leaving him a little worse for wear and unsteady on his feet. He isn't ready to go back to living on his own, not quite ready to fend for himself though stubborn enough to try. Best friend Maggie insists on taking him home so she can look after him, and make sure he's following Doctors orders.
The page count on The Millionaire Malones is small and that makes them a very nice light read, easy to knock over in an afternoon. It's great for a little escape but it's over way too soon. With a page count this small there isn't the same time for scene setting and back story but Purman has given us enough to really get a feel for these characters.
Cooper Malone we have met and we know his family so we have a bit of his back story. Surfing is his life, it is how he has defined himself since the loss of his mother as a teen and an injury that could prove to be career ending calls into question all he knows about himself.
Maggie MacLean was an adventurous traveler until a Bali bar meeting changes the course of her future. Six years later she is a work from home mum to a gorgeous five year old boy, terminally single and dedicated to putting her son first. She is happy with her life and thankful for the friendship of Cooper, who she met in Bali as a spontaneous traveler.
The Rebel is a little bit the one that got away and a little bit friends to lovers with complications. It's a beautiful tale of family, of home and of love. A story of becoming the family you felt you missed and of the bonds of love sometimes being stronger than the bonds of blood.
The remainder of the review will be live at Beauty and Lace.
I loved this story of Maggie, single mom and good friend Cooper, pro surfer. A friends to lovers story that will have you shedding happy tears, throughout the story. Evan, Maggie's little boy just stole my heart, so cute.
Cooper and Maggie met six years ago, but with a missed opportunity, she hooks up with his friend and become pregnant. Copper becomes the friend and father to Evan, that the other man never did. Injured, Cooper is staying at Maggie's recovering from an accident, when the they decide to take their friendship up a level, but both are afraid it will ruin what they have.
This is a well written book, that will leave you wanting more. Very well developed likable characters, that you will fall in love with too. I highly recommend this book ! I received this book from netgallley for an honest review.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley from Tule Publishing for an honest review. This was a very entertaining and heartwarming friends to lovers story. Told from dual points of view you quickly learn they have unrequited feelings going back to the first night they met 6 years ago. Maggie's primary concern is her son and any confusion or misunderstandings he might have from her relationship with Connor. I loved how Connor stepped up to care for Maggie and Evan over the years. He didn't do it because it was the honorable or right thing, but because he truly wanted to be there for them. This was the 3rd book in the series of the Malone brothers. Although his brothers back in Australia are mentioned and he speaks with his twin, Callum (book 2), on the phone, it has little impact on the story. I think the book wrapped up great, but I still wanted that moment of the whole family together (sort of a 2nd epilogue to bring the trilogy full circle). Overall, this was a great story with a nice pacing and likable characters.
Another hit in the Millionaire Malones series! Cooper caught this readers attention from the start and he is nothing short of scorching in this installment of the series. Maggie is equally as firing and together they are entertaining throughout the read. A lighter read in the romance genre that still had its share of smexy throughout 3.5 stars

The Rebel is the third and final book in Victoria Purman's Millionaire Malones series and is testament to her ability to deliver a heartwarming story. It had me reaching for the tissues here and there, chuckling in other places and smiling at five year old Evan's antics along the way.
Cooper and Maggie are both likeable characters and blind Freddy would have no trouble working put very early on in the book that they are head over heels in love with each other even if they both profess to be just best friends. I loved the way Cooper related to Evan and the natural feel of the household while he was there. I loved the comfortable way Maggie's household adjusted to fit Cooper in, as though he'd always belonged there.
This book appealed to me enormously from beginning to end and I'm sad to think it's the last in a series that hooked me from the start.
3.5 stars
The Rebel was a sweet and lovely friends to more read.
I enjoyed watching Cooper and Maggie let their walls down and give into their feelings. They were perfect for each other, they had a great friendship and a strong connection, you knew they would have a long and happy life together. Another plus for me was Cooper's relationship with Maggie's little boy Evan, it was heartwarming and sweet watching them together.
Overall The Rebel was a lovely, heartfelt afternoon read.
Thank you Tule Publishing via Netgalley for the advance copy.
I really enjoyed this book. Maggie and Cooper have been best friends for six years and they have a rule never lie to each other. Coop is a world class surfer and has just had surgery on his knee. When Coop is released Maggie is determined that she will make sure he has someone to watch over him and a place to heal. Maggie is a single mom and has a lot on her plate but Coop has always been there for her when his former best friend, the father of her son, basically abandoned her and her son Evan. Coop has always had his eye on Maggie but he never wanted to upset the friendship that he and Maggie value so much. While Coop is living with them they each realize that their feelings are far more than friendship but neither wants to voice their feelings and put their friendship at risk. Coop loves living on the edge he has seen and gone pretty much any where there is a wave to catch but his favorite place other than his home of Sydney is San Clemente, where Maggie and Evan live. He always feels like this is his place in the world, his center and place to regroup. And Maggie and Evan are never happier than when they are with Coop. With Coops injury he isn't sure if he will ever surf again and he needs to decide which direction he wants for his future and Maggie needs to decide if she wants to risk her heart again on a man that may be in and out of her life due to his job. I really enjoyed this book I loved the characters and how you just fall into their story, If you are looking for a quick, fun read this book and this series is well worth it.
Maggie and Cooper have been best friends for six years now. They have a rule never lie to each other. So when Maggie drops her son Evan off at her moms and runs to be by his side in the hospital it doesn't surprise her when he is coming to and not making much since, only thing is because she's not family they won't tell her much. When Coop get out she is determined to make sure he has a place to heal and a place she can care for him and Evan and still be super mom. She just never thought everything would build up to what it has been and not she is not sure if this is a good thing or if there friendship is over for good. Coop loves living on the edge he has seen and gone pretty much any where there is a wave to catch but his favorite place other then his home of Sydney is San Clemente he just always feels like this is his place in the world to focus and regroup. After getting hurt again he seems to be set to hide how bad it really is from everyone close to him but he's is starting to realize maybe that is not such a great idea. Will he be able to have his cake and eat it too and still have all the firecrackers he needs in his life to make it complete?
I really enjoyed this book I love the length of the story and how quick and simple it really is I love how you can dive into it and be taken to a whole other world and really see it as the characters do. This book has a ton of chemistry jumping off the pages and the build up is perfect. I love little Evan and his quirkiness he brings to the book and the over all storyline. i really don't think the book would be the same with out him. If you are looking for a really quick but really fun read this book and this series is well worth the buy.
I read this on my train journey home yesterday, and alighted at my station with a big goofy smile on my face.
The chemistry between Cooper and Maggie is crazy good, both in a physical sense and friendship-wise. You can believe the relationship they had before the sexytimes was real, and I just wanted them to find their HEA so bad.
This is a fantastic way to while away an afternoon's travel :) Loved it!
This story has so much light, love, joy, and new chances in life, it is sweet, adorable, and sexy, and left me beaming with a smile.
Maggie and Cooper has so much love between them, the affection and friendship they have invested on for the past five years, is something to be treasured. The chemistry, connection, attraction, it's all there, in abundance. They are natural together, with trust, loyalty, and protectiveness between them.
Evan, Maggie's son, is too cute for words. His relationship with Cooper is admirable, the way Cooper has been part of their lives ever since Evan was born, being the constant, role model, solid in Evan's life, to take the responsibility his father never took.
I loved how the relationship between them evolved, how the feelings they have for each other came to light, without too much drama and angst, they accepted and embraced the new possibilities they have in life.
There's so much to swoon over in this story, so much to feel good about, and smile about. It is delightful, charming and sexy story, light on tragedy and conflict, and heavy on all the good things in life, and in that sense a true feel good story
~ Five Spoons!
Steamy hot. And, I’m not talking about the California sun.
Single mother Maggie MacLean and Australian pro surfer Cooper Malone are very close friends. After Cooper’s friend Vance gets Maggie pregnant and then doesn’t want anything to do with her, Cooper steps in. He doesn’t want to be tied down to a family since he spends his life searching for wave after wave. But he can be there for Maggie and Evan when he is in town. What is created is an intense friendship where they can share anything with each other.
When Copper is injured in a surfing accident, Maggie insists he stay at her house while he recuperates. Will living together hurt their friendship or will it bring them even closer than they ever thought possible?
This story had the right amount of passion and excitement to keep me interested until the very end. Cooper and Maggie had intense chemistry. I was so glad when they finally gave in to their feelings toward each other.
Cooper Malone found surfing at a young age and has made a successful career out of his love for the waves. Six years ago, he and a friend met two girls in a bar in Bali. One caught his eye, but he had to step aside when his friend laid claim to her. Maggie Maclean wasn't happy unless she was traveling, living for the next adventure. When she walked into the bar in Bali, she was drawn to Cooper, but ended up with his friend. When she found out she was pregnant, she went home for a new adventure, being a single Mom. When his friend wanted nothing to do with fatherhood, Cooper stepped in to be Maggie's friend and support, doting on Evan. Maggie buried her feelings for Cooper, happy to have his friendship and support when he was in town. When Cooper ends up in the hospital with what could be a career-ending injury, she realizes he can't be alone, and takes the opportunity to take care of him, for once. In her house, Cooper finds the home he has always wanted. As their relationship evolves, Maggie and Cooper have to decide if this could be forever. I love these two characters. They built a solid friendship based on honesty and trust, neither letting the thought of attraction cross their mind. Cooper is such a good guy, how many would step in to provide a male figure for another man's child without a thought? Maggie, is a strong woman, who is determined to make the best possible life for her son. This is a well-written story with characters that have depth. The are real people and work well together. The author gives the reader a real understanding of the characters, their feelings, and their relationship. A novella, it is paced well, and I did not want to put it down. I both laughed and cried at the interactions. This the third in the series, but it can easily stand alone.
The Rebel by Victoria Purman is part of an Australian Series that has continued to get better and better. Cooper may be my favorite of the Malone brothers. It is impossible not to love a man who is there when you need him most. Cooper is certainly there for Maggie and her young son, Evan. It is only with his own health that Cooper is idiotic in this friends to lovers story. Good thing Maggie is there to straighten surfer boy out.
The Rebel is enjoyable, passionate while also heartwarming. It is long enough without being too long. Victoria Purman sure knows how to tell a compelling story with two charming adults and one adorable five year old. I only wish that there were a few more Malone guys, maybe some cousins?
4.5 Stars
Packed with great chemistry and heartwarming emotion, The Rebel will delight readers hooked on the Malones! Really enjoyed it!
The book is a beautiful heart warming story of two friends who become so much more its slow and steady build up to an extraordinary romance.
I loved the main characters, Maggie Maclean and Cooper Malone, and Maggie's small son, Evan, was the icing on the cake to this story.
The way Victoria Purman builds up the romance between Maggie and Cooper was gentle and tender.
But these two had buckets full of chemistry which pulled us the readers in even more we wanted to no what was going to happen we were urging them.
Most of all I loved reading about Cooper's relationship and all of his interactions with young Evan.
This was a sweet and enjoyable read.
