Description
Barrel rider Reba Duvall has been crushing on Nick Blue since the moment they met, but she kicked him to the friend zone to keep her heart from being bruised and battered by the charmer… until they turn to each other for comfort when their best friend dies. Reba knows it’s for one night only, but still, it hurts to wake up alone. But it turns out a memory is not all Nick left her with…
Nick Blue never guessed his father was one of the richest men in Texas. Or that he’d have to live in Whiskey River with two unknown brothers for a year to inherit his share of the family property. But hey, stranger things have happened, such as bumping into his friend and one time lover in that same town… the one he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about all this time. But running into Nick is not an accident. Reba has a plan. She wants baby Martina to know her father.
Reba may not know what she wants from Nick, but it sure isn’t a half-assed marriage proposal and sharing a luxurious bedroom at Kelly Ranch. She plans to keep things platonic. Can Nick convince her she needs more than one night with the playboy?

3.5 - "There's a storm coming..." Stars!
Book five in the Whiskey River series offers up a couple of well-loved tropes, within a story that is engagingly written and a couple that are easy to get along with.
IMAGE.
Nicholas Blue has been the easy-going brother throughout this series, quick with a joke and always a smile for the ladies. In One Night With the Playboy you get to see past the façade to the man underneath, a man suffering with self-doubt, grieving the loss of his best friend, and discovering a baby daughter he never knew existed.
”I let you dance away from me before, I’m not doing it again.”
I liked Reba, a strong woman, although in love with Nick, she doesn’t allow him to sweet-talk his way back into her life. She wants all of him; heart and soul; and not just the parts of himself that he is comfortable to show.
”A man doesn’t go to a woman when he no longer knows who he is.”
“You should have, I would have helped you find yourself again.”
I really enjoyed this instalment in the Whiskey River series, equal parts sexy and emotional, it was good to see that there was more to the last of the Kelly/Blue brothers, and that his path to love was a full of obstacles as his brothers before him.
I hope this isn’t the end of our visits to Whiskey River, Texas I think there is potential for a few more stories yet, and I will keep everything crossed that at some point we get them.
ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.
This was a fun fast hot read and I enjoyed it. Reba and Nick have a history, great chemistry and plenty of baggage. The addition of a daughter means these two will be forever linked and now they have to figure out what they want from each other. Nick has been the easygoing charmer in the earlier books but in this one we get to look deeper and see the pain and insecurity that charm covers up. Reba seems like she has it pretty together all things considered but through their conversations and Nick finally showing some of his vulnerabilities she finally reveals some of hers. These two are great together and I loved their conversations. The chemistry between them is great and the sex is smokin’ hot. I’m so glad all the brothers now have their happy ending. I highly recommend all the books in the series, and while they stand alone fine it’s best to read them all from the beginning. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars
One Night with the Playboy was a good read.
I was really looking forward to Nick's story and while it was a good read I wasn't as in love with it as I was the other books. I felt the story was a little rushed, we didn't get to see any development between Nick and Reba, I didn't feel any connection between Nick and Reba. They did have great chemistry but was that going to be enough? What I did enjoy was seeing all the boys again and seeing how wonderful life was for them all.
Overall while I didn't love One Night with the Playboy as much as the other books the Whiskey River series has been a very entertaining, fun and swoon worthy read. I highly recommend it.
Thank you Tule Publishing via Netgalley for the advance copy
This is book 5 in the Whiskey River series and while it is stand alone, I would highly recommend reading the others in the series. They give a background of the brother's situation and you don't want to miss their stories. This is Nicholas Blue's story and I found it to be more emotional than the others. Nick has been the easy-going brother throughout this series, quick with a joke and always a killer smile for the ladies. In One Night With the Playboy you get to see past the facade he has created to the sensitive man underneath. Nick is consumed by the grief of the loss of his best friend and by self-doubt as to who he is and what he wants for the future. On top of it all he finds that he has a baby girl that he didn't know existed. I liked Reba, she is a strong woman and she has known Nick for years and has been in love with him for as long. As a result, she doesn't allow him to sweet-talk his way back into her life. She wants it all....his heart and soul and his love. She doesn't want just the facade he has created that other see, she wants all the parts underneath that he is afraid to reveal. I really enjoyed this installment in the series, equal parts sexy and emotional, it was good to see that there was more to the last of the Kelly/Blue brothers. I am hopeful that this won't be the last in the series...perhaps we can get a story that wraps it all up.
This is the fantastic fifth book in the Whiskey River Series and the second one by Katherine Garrbera - an author whose books anyone who follows my blog will know I welcome the opportunity to get lost! So, a series I’m enjoying reading by an author I also admire - you’re right, this was a definite hit for me!
Although it is the fifth in the series, you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy it but if you have, you’ll recognise most of the characters involved and see how their relationships are continuing to develop! It continues the saga of the two sets of twin sons of the late Boots Kelly, who only learned about the other twins existence when his Will was read! They are all living together, under the terms of the Will, for a year at the family ranch. Nicholas Blue used to be a rodeo superstar, an easy-going popular with the ladies champion who used his charm and smile to hide himself and protect his emotions.
Nick used to travel the rodeo circuit with his friend Marty and a feisty red haired barrel rider, Reba Duvall. When Marty was tragically killed the two turned to each other for solace - then Nick ran in panic. A year later Reba has found him again and introduces him to his beautiful baby daughter, Martina. Although she loves Nick, she’s not going to marry him for the sake of their daughter, she wants to be loved for herself and unless Nick can let down the barriers around himself she wants their relationship to be platonic - or so she says till he kisses her again! Can Nick let down his barriers and cross hers to convince her she needs more than just one night with the playboy?
The characters involved in this series continue to grow and develop, their journeys towards their own HEA is never straightforward and certainly isn’t in this story, either. This is a heartwarming story, full of barriers to be broken down, crossed or driven round. Whilst I’ve enjoyed all the Whiskey River stories, this has to be my favourite so far - I do hope there will be others in future! I have no hesitation in highly recommending this to anyone who lives their romance cowboy style!
Other books in this series are:
“Where there’s a Will” by Katherine Garbera and Eve Gaddy
“One Night with the Cowboy” by Eve Gaddy
“One Night with the Tycoon” by Katherine Garbera
“One Night with the Bad Boy” by Eve Gaddy
“One Night with the Playboy” by Kahterine Garbera (reviewed here)
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
I have to admit it, I am really sorry to see the Whiskey River series come to a close. Oh, I knew it would but is it wrong for a little bit of me to hope that we get to revisit Whiskey River with a few of the still unattached folks in town?
One night can change your world. On the night when their best friend Marty was tossed from that loco bull and finally met the bull he couldn’t beat Nick and Reba’s world came crashing down. With Marty’s death everything changed. And they came together that night in passion and grief… and love on Reba’s part. The next morning, not knowing what to do with these emotions flowing over him as he watched Reba sleep, Nick did what he does best – leave. Oh, he came back, but Reba had already left. Soon after that came the will of the father he’d never known, two half-brothers, a new life and a decree to remain on the ranch together for a set time in order for any of them to inherit from their father. Life changed for Nick in many ways months back.
Now, it’s about to change again.
Reba has been searching for Nick for almost a year now, to suddenly see him in the town square on a moonlight night was a surprise she’d only dreamed of. They have something to talk about – it was time he met his four month old daughter, Martina.
Nick and Reba’s romance was fun, lighthearted, sexy and intense all rolled into one. The man who never had a dad now was expected to know what to do with this precious little girl of his. He was scared. Oh, the passion for Reba was still there, hotter than before if that was even possible. But could he give of himself as he knew he had to in order to win Reba’s heart and a family of his own.
I hope you’ll pick up One Night with the Playboy. If you haven’t read the Whiskey River series, then I’d highly recommend each and every story. You will discover strong men who happen to share a father – and watch them become true brothers who find the exact woman for each of them that complete their world. You couldn’t ask for a more romantic series with hot cowboys and the ladies who love them. These are stores I intend to drag out again and re-read so they will always have a place on my ereader keeper shelf. Indulge yourself and fall in love.
*I received an e-ARC of One Night with the Playboy from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
I enjoyed reading One Night With The Playboy, the fifth and final book in Tule Publishing's Whiskey River series.
This book tells the story of rodeo champion Nicholas Blue, the fourth of Boots Kelly's sons, and his longstanding best friend Reba. A one night stand a year earlier when they were both drunk after the death of their friend Marty in a bull riding accident has resulted in the conception of their daughter Martina. This book opens with Reba tracking Nicholas down to introduce him to his daughter, who is now a month old.
Outwardly Nick is all swaggering confidence. Handsome and genial, he has a reputation as a lady's man, though he actually hasn't slept with anybody since his night with Reba. Inside Nick is a bundle of self doubt. He worries about his ability to be a good father and he worries about whether he'll be good enough for Reba and most of all, he worries about whether Reba loves him.
Reba fell in love with Nick the first time she saw him though she's hidden in under the mantle of friendship. She wants A family with Nick but she needs him to love her enough to stay. He fled from her bed after their only night together and she's not at all convinced that he won't do it again.
This was a nice conclusion to the series and was for the most part well written though I did feel that it was rushed in places and would have benefitted from a reread and a bit more checking of spelling and grammar before going to publication. That aside, it was a good book and as I said at the start, I enjoyed it.
A quick read to finish out the Whiskey River series. Reba and Nick have a one night of passion, that will last a lifetime. Reba shows up in Whiskey River, with a four month little girl as a result. Nick never knew his father growing up and he did not want that for his little girl Martina. Reba has always lusted after Nick but she does not ready to settle, just because of a baby. Can Nick change her mind? Can they be a family that Nick has always craved and never had.
This is a great addition to the series. Loved the chemistry and the dialog between Nick and Reba. I really enjoyed this series, I highly recommend them all.
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
Nick turned to Reba when their mutual friend died. They had a steamy night together, and then he was gone. They each end up in Whiskey River for different reasons. Reba must decide if she is willing to risk her heart again.
I really liked Reba; Nick frustrated me with his inability to commit when it was clear that he had feelings for her.
A sweet second chance romance.
One year ago PBR champ Nicholas Blue watched his friend Marty die when he was bucked off a bull during a rodeo. In an attempt to escape the memory of the incident, he found his way into the arms of Reba Duvall, a barrel rider. Little did Nicholas know, when he left Reba that night, she would be pregnant.
Reba has tracked Nicholas down in Whiskey River Texas. She has come to tell Nicholas that he has a daughter. She tried hard to get over Nicholas. She tried telling herself that she didn't love him anymore. But she had to do the right thing for their daughter. Martina deserved to know her father.
Nicholas didn't know his father when he was growing up. He didn't want Martina to grow up like that too. He insists Reba and Martina move into Kelley Ranch. Reba reluctantly agrees.
He had a daughter and he wanted Reba to be his wife. He wanted the family that he’d never had and had always craved. Will Nicholas be able to convince Reba that they can be good together as a couple?
Great writing and characters made this a memorable story. As far as I know, this is the end of the series. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to wrap it up.
One more in the HOT HOT HOT! Whiskey River Series. I've devoured all these books! Great reads and am hooked on Katherine Garbera!!
I have enjoyed the Whiskey River Series, and the brothers getting to know each other and finding their forever partners in life. I think Nick's story is my favorite, I have been looking forward to meet the woman, who could get this flirting cowboy fall on his knees.
Reba truly is his match, in every possible way. They have been friends for a long time, and the tragic death of their best friend threw them together, while comforting each other. That night had consequences, neither of them expected.
I liked both Reba and Nick, they have such a genuine connection with each other. They know each other better than most, and are not afraid to call each other on the lies and pretend. The relationship is based on more than just lust, there's a solid friendship and respect with the attraction and chemistry. They are both broken, not only from the death of Marty, but the issues of their own family, growing up, relationships, and parenthood. While acting on their attraction to each other, they are working on these issues, trying to figure out what the future holds, and be brave enough to admit and face their feelings towards each other. Nothing comes easy, but with raw honesty, and long conversations, and a little help from his brothers, they will figure it all out. The brothers always have each other's back, I love how they always show up when one of them needs them, and always provide advice, wisecracks, and few laughs. The Kelly and Blue brother have gone through a huge change in their lives through the series, have found the new family unit within each other, and love to their lives. I have enjoyed these short stories, the humor, the brotherhood, and the steamy romances, the solid entertainment the series is
~ Four Spoons
Reba has spent the last year looking for Nick Blue she has a secret to tell him but she never thought when she looked out her hotel room and found him in the town court yard. She has not only there to tell him something that would impact both of there lives but she was hoping that it would lead to more a lot more to even maybe a relationship with him, being in love with someone is not always easy when they don't know it. Nick is getting along in his life with everything changing so quickly finding he has brothers finding out who his dad is, finding out he can't be in the rodeo for the next year and all the while dealing with his best friends death secretly. When Reba walks into his life and it changed everything he has ever know now he has to decide whats next. Will he be able to show Reba what she means to him or will he loose everything?
This book being the last in the series I thought I would find out just a little bit more about the past characters, that really wasn't the case. However the book was really good and summed up the whole series perfectly it seemed to finally tie everything together. The characters in this book seemed more together in a since but it was also full of a ton of sexual chemistry. This book is short sweet and to the point and you can't go wrong with it.
3 to 3.5 stars The rodeo rider has his tale and it ends up being something he didn't expect... A night of shared condolence between close friends ends up with both of them a little drunk and willing to share the physical. Nine months later, our gal searching for hr baby's daddy. He is there where she expected him to be and now the fun begins....
Will he man up and acknowledge this coupling they did meant more than just a hoop up...Will she be strong enough to give him the room he needs to realize how much she and his daughter mean to him...
This is there story and we get a front row seat. We also have all the past characters to catch up with.
I loved the chemistry between Nick and Reba. Nick and Reba have been friends until the night their friend died and their relationship changed. Nick left her and disappeared. Nick's unknown father left him and his twin brother a business to share with two brothers (he didn't know he had). Reba found out his location and brought him a present. Reba loves Nick but Nick is unsure if he's ready for love and a family. Story dealt with insecurities and two people who eventually trust in their love for each other and their new family. Recommended read.
Book 4 of the ‘Whiskey River Series’ went by too fast for me. Yet it was entertaining, sexy as the blues and charming to the Boots. Whiskey River romance hooks Nick Blue, stock barrel and a kid!
Tragedy takes friends Reba Duvall and Nick Blue to the sheets, igniting passion and firing their hearts. And the consequences of that one night bring Reba to Whiskey River in search of Nick and a chance for him to meet his daughter. Months may have separated these two, but the attraction still sizzles between them and Nick wants to lay down roots in Whiskey River with his brothers.
As much as Reba loves Nick, she doesn’t want to step into a relationship or a family as an obligation. The passion still burns between them, and love is just a breath away from their hearts.
Penned by Katherine Garbera, “One Night With The Playboy”, she adds spice to Nick and Reba. Short as it is, the history between them is reasonably presented and the foundation of their love story is plausible. With the brothers adding their wit and humor, support and bonding, this story makes a charming read, perfect to set the mood happy and warm.

One Night with the Playboy (Whiskey River Series Book 40 has Nicholas settling down. Of the 4 brothers/half-brothers, Nicholas has been the hardest for me to pin down personality wise. I admire Katherine Garbera for even taking him on. He does come across as a player but I was sure he was deeper than that. I think Ms. Garbera has written a realistic story about a rodeo nomad who tries never to think too deeply. The Reba’s insight clearly hit the mark with, “We both know sex is a defense mechanism for you.”
Finding out he has a baby adds to the already unsettling way his life was going. Nicholas struck me as a man who needs to have the changes thrust upon him after his mentor’s death, the Kelly will and now baby Martina where not unwelcomed. The chemistry between Nicholas and Reba never rises to the level of the three other brothers and their loves. It does fit into the image I have of Nicholas. In spite of the how it might look, he needs Reba and Martina. The way I see it, his need grows into love. It’s a good thing Reba already loved him.
Except for the quick ending, I liked everything about this last brother’s story. Nicholas came around too fast for me to find it believable. I’m a bit sad to this series end, maybe there is a cousin or friend in Whiskey Creek who could get a story.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.
One year ago following the death of a good friend Nick sought comfort in the arms of Reba. After an amazing night together, he tucked tail and ran without a glance back. Now 1 yr later he is shocked to find Reba is in his home town and she has a surprise for him.
Reba wasn't just left with amazing memories and heartache from the night with Nick. She is in town to let him know that he left a little something behind. Now as Nick tries to figure out how to be a father, he has to decide if he can risk his heart for his little girl's mother. Or does he let them both go?
Reba, a barrel racer, felt chemistry with Nick the moment she met him. It is only after a shared tragedy (loss of a friend) that they give in to the chemistry... While circumstances draw Nick to a family and inheritance he never knew existed, Reba is left on her own with the repercussions of their night showing up 9 months later. She's come to the ranch at Whiskey River so she can introduce daughter to daddy for the first time. Will they be able to make this work and be a family? Reba knows she wants a relationship, but what Nick wants is anyone's guess.
While not my favorite, this wasn't the worst romance I've read. It was written in such a way that I just found it hard to get invested in the story or the characters.
I enjoyed all the other books in this series but i couldnt connect very well with this one.
I love Katherine Garbera though she is a great writer
*sigh*
I love this series and this author and I think this story had a lot of potential but it just felt rushed and emotionless.
