I received an ARC through NetGalley from Tule Publishing for an honest review. This is the 2nd book in the world of the Sons of San Clemente series. So far books 1 and 2 are loosely tied by being located in San Clemente, featuring surfing, and there's a mention of going to Preach's bar (he's in the 1st book). Book 1 appears to have a group of characters who Katherine Garbera is creating series for each one. I'm crossing my fingers that Sinclair Jayne does the same with the group of surfers introduced in this book.
I'm really impressed this is her first book as it's very well-written and engaging. I will say that until about the mid-point of the book, I was leaning more towards a 2 - it was ok. Then Hollis started putting down her defenses and their past was slowly revealed as they worked through (mostly her) insecurities. The book grew into so much more once the characters were established. The message for me was doing what you want to do to stay true to yourself. In Hollis's case, she was chasing the path her deceased twin might have taken by going into a medical-related field. Her parents didn't understand her introverted nature which was so opposite of her twin brother's outgoing persona.
It's hard for me not to compare books 1 and 2 (again, different authors) as I read them back to back. Book 1 is very different from Sinclair Jayne's story and darker from most of the Tule Publishing series I've read. Con/Mia's book was more explicit (language, sex and a darker mood). This one is slightly somber as Kadan and Holland work through their problems, but Kadan brings a lighthearted touch to the story with his laid-back and comfortable personality. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to future books.
Hollis and Kadan’s lives had been wrapped together since they, or really she, had been a kid. Her crush started at age 12 and try though she did she never outgrew it or her love for Kaden… or her mistrust.
Now she’s back at her grandmother’s beach house hoping to start all over again on her life plan. Again. She’s never fit in any of the careers she’d worked so hard at – maybe because she’d never done them for herself but by trying to live out her twin brother’s life.. if he hadn’t drown trying to follow in Kaden’s footsteps. What she never expected to find was Kadan. At the beach house, injured and fully expecting to stay right where he was. As if she’d never run out on them before… and she was determined that this time he would go, not her.
Wrecked is a lovely, introspective look at how two people, in love, can see each other and their shared lives so very differently. Hollis had let her insecurities take her on the run from her relationship with Kaden so many times. Kadan had loved her and believed with everything in him that she’d return… some day. Right up until he’d just about given up for some day to ever arrive.
Two people who knew each other so well and so little. Physically they are a perfect match, neither denies the sexual attraction or the emotional one either. It’s getting past what Hollis believes are lies and deception and getting her to see Kadan and their lives together clearly with honesty and insight that will finally repair the breach between them. But Hollis is nothing if not stubborn. And the truth as she sees it is instilled in her so deeply that Kaden will have to have patience, love and determination to find the way to let her see what was her truth really wasn’t the truth at all.
I enjoyed Wrecked very much. In fact, I have a friend who is so very much like Hollis, it’s like reading her own story. Yes, there are people who believe so little in themselves and paint the world from a paintbox of their own making that getting them to see the actual truth is a giant undertaking. So, I understood Hollis – wanted to shake her a lot, but I “got” her.
I would recommend this romance for anyone who enjoys a deeply sketched personality in their heroine, who enjoys a love story that is meant to be no matter how long it took to get to the happy ending.
*I received an e-ARC of Wrecked from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
I initially requested this book based on the cover alone, holy hotness, but soon understood that there was a sweet story with likable characters at the heart of it as well. I devoured this book in a matter of hours while lounging in bed while the kids were at school. Great romance
I got this book for an honest review and I found it entertaining and steamy!
Hollis is planning on hiding from her life at her grandmas cottage, nothing has worked for her, she has decided to quit her last job and now is under the idea that going there would be a good way to regroup and start over.
But she wasn't counting on Kaden to being there, and everything she left behind included him, and now he is here with her and the feelings are back with a vengeance.
She lost herself trying to be someone she wasn't and now she doesn't know who she is, or what she will do with her life.
Kaden sees her, and brings her back to where she belongs, with him.
Amazing sex scenes, and the connection between them was so much more that sex, it made you feel like you knew all of their history.
An enjoyable, fast moving, sweet romance. Hollis and Kadan spent their teen year's together, became a couple, then broke up. Years later, they meet up again (they both chose the same location to recover from individual pain) and work through their troubles. An easy to read romance
Hollis and Kadan loved each other once but have spent six years apart when they suddenly find themselves living under the same roof in San Clemente. Hollis has done many things in pursuit of the perfect career while Kadan has pursued his surfing career around the world and reached the top. Due to unforeseen circumstances both Kadan and Hollis find themselves at a crossroad facing the future and wondering what it holds in store for them. Will they reignite their passionate relationship and if they do will it be more mature, more open and more honest than it once was thus allowing them to deal with negative issues from the past in a way that will allow them a future...or not. This well written novella does include mention of a few characters that were in book one of the series – but only a mention. There are more characters who are given a voice and one, Lane, seems to call out for his story to be told in the future. Both Kadan and Hollis are believable characters that I thoroughly liked and would enjoy having as friends. I felt at times as though I could feel the sand between my toes, the waves on my feet and smell the Southern California beaches I once enjoyed in my youth.
Thank you to Net Galley and Tule Publishing – Holiday Books for the copy of this book to read and review.
4.5 Stars
Wrecked is the condition Hollis calls her life. In an attempt to rebuild on the shaking foundation Hollis finds hershelf left with, she flees to her grandmother's beach cottage...only to find Kadan...the man she loved and left six years earlier.
Kadan is a surfing pro with an injury that might just ruin any chance to further his career. Licking his wounds, he secrets himself away in “Grandmother's” beach house...hoping to heal out of the spotlight of prying eyes.
Insecurity and separation destroyed the relationship between Kadan and Hollis. Now that Kadan has the chance, he isn't going to let Hollis go again.
This is a story of a second chance at love. Emotionally scarred and hurt by past circumstances, we are given a front row seat to our main characters struggling to reunite.
The story is fast paced and something about their reconnecting is lost in this dash to reconciliation. But overall, I found Wrecked to be a great contemporary sport romance.

ARC Wrecked was a good fast read. Hollis and Karson are meant to be to always fall back together. I love how she wants to help him and has a soft spot for him. I recommend this book!
A cute, romantic read that can easily be finished in one sitting. Hollis and Kaden have a long history together, one that ended when he cheated on her while attending different surfing events.
Hollis is running; running back home after another failure in her life. All she wants to do is spend time alone licking her wounds. When she opens the door to her grandmother's beach cottage she finds Kaden laying her in bed completely naked.
Kaden is also running; running from the public as he heals from what can be a career ended injury. He never expected for Hollis to return to the cottage.
Seeing as though neither of them is ready to stop running, they agree to stay at the cottage together and drown their sorrows. Will the intense closeness rekindle their relationship or will it just bring up old insecurities?
Hollis kind of got on my nerves a few times in the story. She was so closed off with Kaden despite their history and how close they were. When the story about the break out was told I was angry at her for not confronting him. It's clear Hollis runs when things get rough and I'm not sure she worked on this during the story.
A great story from the very first page.
When Hollis Remington discovers her ex-boyfriend, Kadan Carson, staying at her grandmother's beach house, she doesn’t know what to think. Kadan, a pro surfer, has crushed his foot and broke his ankle. No one knew how bad the injury really was and Kadan planned to keep it that way. So, he decided not to stay at his own home and opted to staying at Hollis’ grandmother’s house. Hollis was the only person he could trust not to expose his condition to the public.
Hollis was feeling like she failed in life. She returned to her grandmother's house to regroup and figure out what to do with her life. She didn't want anyone to know she was back in town for fear the talk would start again about how she couldn't do anything right. Finding Kadan in the house threw a loop in her plans. After seeing Kadan is injured and needs her help, Hollis decides to let him stay and she would help him with what he needed, driving him to appointments, cooking meals for him and whatever else he needed. How will Hollis keep herself from falling in love with Kadan all over again?
“So we have a deal.” The cut of his voice made it sound like a real estate transaction. “You’ll help me during my recovery, and I’ll keep your presence back in town a secret.”
This was a fast paced story that really hooked me. I liked how the author wrote characters with real life struggles that were easy to relate to. It made them easy to love.
Awesome read! Really enjoyed this author's writing style and the characters were great. Hollis and Kadan have had a wild, steamy relationship that has been on again off again for years. After Kadan, a professional surfer, wrecks his leg and has to take a good look at his life and future, he thinks the off again part has to change. Getting Hollis to really look at the problem and get over her trust issues may not be easy but in the end well worth it. This is one I definitely recommend.
Hollis has decided to go back home to San Clemente and re-group, figure out what she wants to do with her life. She figures she can go to her grandmothers cottage on the beach since she knows she will be alone.
What she didn't expect was to see her ex boyfriend laying in the bed she planned on sleeping in and naked with just a sheet on him! Kadan is a world class surfer and is recuperating from his 3rd ankle surgery.
She doesn't want to see him or deal with him. He is the only man she has ever loved and he broke her heart.
Kadan knows she is there for another than the vague reason she gives him. They make a deal that if she helps him he won't tell anyone she is there.
Can they get past the heartbreak?
Six years earlier, Hollis' brother died, he drowned. She has let this rule and ruin her life. Kadan also has guilt.
This is a story of Hollis' dealing with her childhood. Her brother was "perfect" in her parents eyes and according to them, she wasn't This set her life up for failure because everything she tried to accomplish was a wrong choice for the wrong reason.
Kadan is a bit arrogant but he has never cared about any other woman besides Hollis. He liked the life of a surf champ, that could be ending, but he wanted to share it with her. Because of her lack of self confidence, she pulled away and always thought he was cheating on her.
Kadan is the one who can save her and give her back her confidence, love and a choice about her future.
I did like this story. Hollis had such a broken spirit and didn't know where to turn. She wasn't close to her parents and didn't want to "bother" her grandmother. Little by little, she could talk to Kadan and soon realized that she did have some worth.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.
This review will be posted on Amazon and Goodreads.
Wrecked marks the debut of author Sinclair Jayne and is the second novella in the multi-authored contemporary romance Sons of San Clemente series. This can be read as a standalone as it doesn't really share much with the book that came before it other than a shared setting and the mention of a secondary character. I really enjoyed this second chance romance between twenty-nine-year-old Hollis Remington and and thirty-five-year-old Kadan Carson. They're both at a crossroads in their respective lives and their paths crossing again at this point is a sign that maybe the one thing that's been missing all along was each other. This was fast-paced though it didn't feel rushed to me and I liked how their love story played out.
While I really liked Kadan and understood his need to prove naysayers wrong when it came to his surfing career, Hollis came off as insecure and immature, making her act irrationally at times--both while they were still together and even now that they're forced to spend time together again. The endless cheating accusations she hurled at Kadan became tiresome after the first couple of times she did it, and it was quite clear that Kadan was as sick of it as I was. I kinda wish he had moved on and found someone else because who wants to have to suffer through being with someone who didn't trust you, but Hollis does come to her senses and she did grow on me a bit. Overall, Wrecked had a 4.5-starred story and likable hero in Kadan. ♥
This is the second in this series and I have to say that I liked this book much better than the first. This is a series; however, each book is written by a different author. In Wrecked we have Hollis coming home after another failed career move. She is trying to figure out what to do with her life and she want to keep the fact that she is jobless and basically homeless from her family. She goes to her grandmothers cottage on the beach since she knows it is empty and she will be alone. When she arrives, she find her ex-boyfriend laying in the bed she planned on sleeping in. Kaden is a world class surfer and he is recuperating from his 3rd ankle surgery. He wants to stay out of the spotlight until he can see how his recovery is going. Hollis doesn't want to have to deal with Kaden because he is the only man she has ever loved and he broke her heart years ago. They end up making a deal that if she helps him out then he won't tell her family where she is.
This is an emotional story. Six years earlier, Hollis' brother drowned. She has let that rule her life and she can't get past the fact that her "perfect" brother is dead and she is still living. She has basically lived her life and chosen her careers based upon what he would have done. She has not been true to herself and as a result, she has never been truly happy. Kadan also carries guilt about how her brother died.
Hollis had much to deal with....her insecurities from her childhood, the death of her brother and the loss of the one man she truly loved. The fact that her insecurities led to the loss of Kaden is just the icing on the cake. She knows she needs to make changes but she isn't sure if she is able to.
Kaden has never loved any woman besides Hollis. He would have loved to have her by his side all these years but her insecurities made that impossible. They were like a poison to their relationship. Now that he is looking at a possible career ending injury, he has decisions to make about his future - a future he would like to share with Hollis.
This is a touching story about love and support enabling us to be strong. It is a story that tells us that sometime when we love someone it isn't the right time in our life....we have to be able to stand as an individual before we can be a true part of a couple.
I enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
Hollis is trying to get her life back together and Kadan is trying to hide out. They end up in the same cabin and with them come a slew of unresolved issues. AND an attraction they can't shake. I liked this second chance story. Definitely one to cozy up with at night :)
**ARC received in exchange for honest review**
Wrecked is short, sweet and sexy, focusing very much around the love story between injured pro surfer Kadan and Hollis, the girl who had crushed on him for much of her life.
Set in San Clemente,a coastal town in southern California, the book has a very beachy feel about it. If you're into the sand and the surf and all that goes with that lifestyle then you're sure to enjoy this novel.
Kadan is tall, gorgeous, immensely popular and trying to recover from serious injuries to his leg and thigh. He's taken up an offer from Hollis' grandmother to use her beach house so that he can recover out of the spotlight in the hope that the extent of his injuries don't become public knowledge.
Hollis, unaware that Kadan is staying in the beach house has retreated there herself to sort out her life after dropping out of medical school. She's less than impressed to find Kadan there, not only because they have history but also because she's never stopped loving him.
This book really focuses solely on these two and their developing relationship, which makes it feel longer than it actually is. The plot flows nicely, the characters are well rounded, and first-time author Sinclair Jayne has done a lovely job with it. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Sweet book but a bit blunt at least at first. Nicely written and thank God bereft of over zealous characteristics and overly dramatic situations. Candid, respectful and with chemistry. It was a nice read after all.
Wrecked? I would try Lost as a title because both characters are lost and lonely but they end up overcoming their issues and move on to better things. Maybe they are a little bend but i wouldn't say wrecked.
I have to say that i'm particularly fond of the main character, Kadan because he is a straight-forward and genuine person, even though he is somewhat strung out at the beginning and my first impression of him wasn't the best. He ends up showing us his wholesome, and truthful personality quickly enough, along with his six-pack -correction, eight-pack- of course.
Hollis on the other hand is a cute heroine but i don't think i have more things to say for her. She is smart, intellectual and can't keep her hands off her first and only love no matter how hard she tries. But her insecurities and new financial instability are a considerable hindrance to the development of their newfound, stable relationship.
At least in her mind.
I liked the story and the idea behind it and i had a good time reading it. After the 60% mark i enjoyed it even more. Great overall, i recommend it for an easy and fulfilling read..
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- 4th(?) time's a charm!
- Almost at the end we learn more of Hollis. She is an introvert with many peculiar traits. She was adorable, i liked her so much because of "bubble."
- Which by the way was a very accurate comment by Kaden. And very romantic too.
- I liked how healthy she tried to keep him.
- I would like to meet her grandma, she sounds nice and thoughtful.
- He framed her art-work.. awwww! he is so romantic..
- Lane is great. I hope he'll find his happy ending, too.
This is the first book in the Sons of San Clemente series I've read, and I found it very entertaining.
It was a light read and a sweet romance, but still had enough angst in the plot to keep it interesting.
So many unnecessary issues left unresolved kept them away from one another too many years.
There were two issues that I feel left me hanging. Kaden had "sleeves" on both his arms, except for a small area on one wrist. Hollis was curious as to why nothing was there but never asked. The second was that Kaden was Hollis' one and only in every sense but she never revealed that to Kaden. That spoke volumes and I felt she should have confessed that to him.
Other than that, it was a sweet love story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Wrecked had an interesting premise and the start was promising. However I had a hard time following the characters motivations and in turn the plot since it took awhile before the story could get into what the reason why Hollis and Kadan keep having an on again off again relationship until it finally did end about six years ago. These two had evident chemistry from the get go (yup this is definitely bordering on the erotica) but you start wondering why they failed the first few times in their relationship. Overall it was still an okay read.
This was a great second chance romance between a Pro surfer and the girl that used to follow him around. Kaden is recovering from an injury when he gets a surprise roommate, Hollis, who needed to get away after dropping out of medical school. The two have their issues but being together in the same house forces them to work them out. I liked the pace for most of the book and it really flowed well together. The ending was a little rushed but I liked the conclusion to everything. Definitely a book I would recommend!
Hollis Remington is on a mission to find herself. Unfortunately for her the first thing she finds when she walks into her Grandmothers beach house is her ex lover and professional surf god, Kadan Carson
Kadan Carson's life has been all bout two things Hollis and surfing! Once he lost Hollis he puts all his energy into surfing until he wipes out and injures himself. Now he is recuperating after his third ankle and foot surgery and he just wants to hide away in a place no one would ever expect him to be.
Now that Kadan and Hollis have wrecked each others plans to hide away they are forced to deal with the demons from their past that broke them up over and over again. Will Kadan and Hollis fall in love all over again for good or will past insecurities keep the torn apart? Read and find out!
I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley for my honest review
Sinclair Jayne did a great job with this book. At no point in this book was I bored, I found myself laughing, fanning myself from all that sexual tension and of course crying from the heartaches.
Hollis wanted to appear to the world as this independent strong woman who knows what she wants to be when in reality she is lost. Kadan came off as this carefree surfer who loved and left all the woman in the world panting after him but in reality he only wanted Hollis.
This book is selling write now 2.99 on Kindle Amazon and that is a great price for a hot and steamy book with an even hotter cover! Great job Sinclair Jayne cant wait for the next book!
If a relationship has no trust how can it be expected to work? Hollis and Kaden allowed anger, mistrust and pride to put an end to their relationship. Now each has reached a crossroads in life. Hollis is returning home after another failure in her professional life and Kaden is dealing with injuries that could prove to be the end of his career. Hollis decision to walk away and now return home has set in motion the events that could help heal two hearts and mend what was broken all those years ago. Ms. Jayne not only wrote a story of second chances but she also brought each character back to the place it all began. Wrecked is a story about the power of trust and how important that trait is. It also shows how pride can wreck the strongest bond. I liked it.
Wrecked (Sons of San Clemente, Book 2) by Sinclair Jayne is another California surfer story in this series. The two main characters have a past with each other that is filled with love and hurts caused by each other. This is much as it would be in real life. It did seem as if they worked through all of this rather quickly which may not be so real life. However, the story is not as dark or dangerous as the first book in the series but it is still a pleasurable read.
What I did find surprising is that this is the author’s first published romance according at the beginning author’s note to the reader. The writer’s style is very engaging so that I became captivated by Kaden and Hollis as their worked through their loss of a dream, changed goals and renewed love. I will be looking for more from Sinclair Jayne. I hope that this author continues to write for Tule Publishing. While the Sons of San Clemente Series is very different from my favorite Montana series I am enjoying this change of scenery.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.
these two characters because each is wrecked in their own way.
Hollis Remington has returned home after six years, just longing for some alone time, some time to figure out her next move, she needs it. Her business failed , all that education before hand and she still failed; hopeful that some time at her grandmother's beach house will help her recoup. The last person Hollos expects to run into. Is her ex - boyfriend Kadan, naked and in her bed; seeing him only opens the floodgates to the memories, the good and the bad, all those surf bunnies and his infidelity , Barkley containing her anger she grabs at a pillow from under him , only to realize the pain that one movement cost him, Kadan is injured, the top of his game world renowned surfer is injured and recouping. At her grandmothers beach house. That alone causes questions to arise why their when he has his own home , what Hollis really wants is him gone and time alone. She can wish for that all she wants , but Kadan needs help and she is after all a physical therapist .
Kadan can tell that Hollis s keeping secrets ,nth at she is yet again running, just like she has done from him three times before , but Kadan has reached his limit he is determined not to let Hollis run from him again. No more running, time to face facts, he never cheated on her and no more letting her run from her problems .
These two are great together. And I loved the story line, both have issues some pretty deep rooted but each ones determination to help the other anchors and pulls them through! A spot on book synopsis for this story giving you a Great short read with a delightful Hea! Arc graciously provided by Tule publishing for an honest review.
It's October, which means the men in my house have zero interest in interacting with me except to bark requests for soda refills, another cookie, and the mandatory "good luck pizza" we've been forced to eat during every Cubs' game. Rather than wallow in my neglect, I have opted to read some *cough* scientific journals *cough* . . .
Unfortunately this one wasn't a winner. When I read the synopsis that Wrecked would be the story of a sexy surfer I was 100% in the game. Said sexy super is all broke down and busted after a serious wipeout is hiding out at his ex-girlfriend's Grandma's beach house when said ex-girlfriend ends up at the same location in order to hide out as well. I knew it would only be a matter of time before she had to tame that trouser snake.
What I didn't expect was these pushing 30-year olds to be the angstiest mahfahs on the West coast. Hollis was an angsty Taylor Swift song and Kadan was an ansty Maroon 5 song.
The sexytimes were fairly sexy, but there was so little story to help move things along. And what there was pissed me off. Hollis was a freakin' Stage 5 Clinger and dude should have stayed faaaaaaaar far away. Even at the end of the story it seemed pretty clear their pattern would probably continue for eternity.
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you, NetGalley!
The book started out great. I was getting really excited and then it just didn't deliver.
If I had to describe this book in five words, those would be:
Uneventful Annoying Repetitive Rushed Good Epilogue (yes, I know it's two words, but it was also the reason for the extra star in the rating, so it deserves two words)
However, this is just my opinion, so you should give it a try and see for yourself.
I'm sorry but I did not finish this book as I could not get into it. Therefore I will not receive. Thank you for the opportunity
An unexpectedly naughty but nice story about first love. Most of them occurring when one is young and immature, still learning about and expanding their definition of love. Hollis and Kadan were together most of their lives as friend and when they did get involved, it was at a time when neither of them knew how to handle a relationship. All they understood was the passion they had for each other. Kadan and up and coming surfer was always surrounded by fans and friends alike. Hollis, an introvert and one who bore the burdens of death and a broken family felt abandoned. After being together off and on for a while they finally go their separate ways.
Many years later, they stumble upon each other on San Clemente beach, in a place where each was seeking refuge from the world. Kadan nursing a life changing injury and Hollis, trying to recuperate from professional burn out and bankruptcy. Maybe this time, if they gave each other the chance to understand what they missed the first time round, they may just find salvation and a future together.
Wrecked had alot of promise but failed too deliver for me
I was hooked from the first page and fell completely in love with these characters. As a debut author, Sinclair Jayne has simply blown through all my expectations and delivered a delicious romance that I will not soon forget. Loved it and can't wait to read more from this very talented author!
This novella is a well written second, third, fourth chance romance! Whilst from very different backgrounds, they were friends as children, with Kaden Carson being somewhat hero worshiped by both Hollis and her twin brother. Whilst the couple were very attracted to each other, as a successful, talented, competitive surfer, Kaden was very popular and a great contrast to the shy, introverted Hollis Remington which caused them to break up as a couple - repeatedly. They haven’t seen each other for years but Kadan is recuperating from surgery in her grandmother’s beach side cottage which is where she’s run to in an effort to think what she wants to do with her life as bankruptcy looms.
The attraction between the two is still rampant but both are at turning points in their lives. Both are hiding out, taking time to lick their own wounds, not expecting to encounter each other. However, maybe this is the opportunity they both need to face up to what split them in the past, to actually communicate with each other and to give their mutual love a chance to grow and flourish, helping them find a future together - but only after a lot of angst and turmoil!
This is a relatively short novel with great characters, plenty of history between them and emotions just waiting to be explored further. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading second chance romances with characters who are in need of time and seclusion to come to terms with events in their lives.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
