Description
The Copper Mountain Rodeo has returned to Marietta and cowboy reputations aren’t the only thing at stake…
Marietta Kindergarten teacher, Kate Canaday, is doing perfectly well without the ex-love of her life mucking up her intention to stay gloriously uncommitted. So what if she’s become—according to her sisters—a serial dater? If pro-bullrider Finn Scott‘s untimely defection six years ago taught her anything, it was that men come with an expiration date. And she’s more than happy to oblige them.
Trouble is, the sexier-than-ever Finn, now a devoted single father, has just moved to Marietta with his adorable five-year-old twins. He’s in an unexpected custody battle with his ex and too proud to ask Kate for help in making his crazy life look stable. But Kate sees helping him as a way of sealing off the hurt from her past once and for all. If they can just keep their hands off each other. After all…expiration date, right?
Not if Finn has anything to say about it…

Loved this book! the latest in the Montana Rodeo Series and can't wait for more!! Kate and Finn's love story is heartwarming and heartwrenching!! A story of forgiveness and healing! A must read!
Loved this story. It's a wonderful tale of forgiveness and second chances. Kate Canaday was deeply hurt in the past by Finn Scott. To protect her heart she's made sure she only dates men who can't possibly hurt her. When her sister's call her on her behavior and challenge her to go a month with no dating allowed, she's all in. That is until she finds out Finn Scott is in Marietta. To stay! Finn and his two young children are making Marietta their home. They are once again drawn together and when Finn puts out a plea for her to help him keep his kids, she can't say no.
A wonderfully written story that drew me in from the first page. I definitely recommend this one!
The choices made and paths paved influence the cycle of life. Barbara Ankrum takes that philosophy and runs with it in Choose Me, Cowboy. Left behind with a broken heart, Kate decides never to fall in love again. Hurting Kate was the biggest regret of Finn's life. Coming face to face years later, he realizes everything that was lost and wants it back. This story is a wonderful look at how loving with an open heart has the power to heal and create stronger bonds.
I have been enjoying the books in this series. They are written by different authors yet they go together well. This one was also about past lovers who find their way back to each other.
A really fun and light book to read. Finn is our hero and he is a good guy who made one mistake. It changed his whole life. Kate is a lonely woman who once upon a time was engaged to Finn in college. 5-6 years later they meet up again in Kate's hometown of Murietta where they both live and Finn is a single parent of twins. Kate is a substitute teacher who just lost her job and she discovers the woman Finna left her for is trying to get custody of the twins. They agree to marry in name only but Finn pulls out all the stops to make it real.
I really loved the twins and all the characters. You hardly see the ex and so the story is pretty fun and a novella style length.
Written by Barbara Ankrum, Choose Me, Cowboy is the fourth and final novella in the multi-authored 2015 Montana Born Rodeo series from Tule Publishing. This is a second chance romance between kindergarten teacher Kate Canaday and former bull rider and now ranch owner Finn Scott, whose relationship ended when with the pregnancy of a one-night stand. While Finn wouldn't change the fact that his mistake gave him his twins, Caylee and Cutter, he does regret the hurt he caused Kate. His feelings for her appear to still be very much present, but Kate refuses to have anything to do with him, until Finn's ex-wife and the mother of his twins makes a reappearance and threatens to destroy the life Finn's created for himself and his family. There's self-denial on Kate's part but she still loves Finn and cares about his kids.
When it comes to two people getting married for the sake of a particular cause, you're pretty sure how things are going to end up, especially when the marriage is between two people who were once engaged and saw their futures with one another. The connection between Finn and Kate is as strong as ever, but Kate's need for self-preservation is perfectly understandable because who the heck wouldn't be wary about putting their heart at risk yet again with the very same man who broke it years ago? I did like the family camaraderie that Finn and Kate had going with Caylee and Cutter and my favorite scene had to be the one involving the grand gesture, which I will not go into except to say that it brought one huge grin on my face when I read all about it. Choose Me, Cowboy was a fine end to this lovely series. It gets 4.5 stars! ♥
Rating: 4.5/5
This is a lovely story of love and forgiveness in a fraught second chance romance involving a couple who had been engaged till his one night stand ex turned up pregnant. He did the ‘honourable’ thing (!?!?!) and married the mother-to-be breaking her heart. They haven’t seen each other for six years….
Finn Scott has moved to Marietta, having inherited a dilapidated, run down ranch which belonged to his friend and mentor and he’s not alone. He’s brought with him his adorable five year old twins, Cutter and Caylee, only to find out that his ex-wife is now contesting custody, wanting to take the twins she hasn’t even attempted to see from him over to live in Hong Kong. Not only that but the judge they’ll be seeing always seems to prefer to give custody to the mother . . .
When Finn and Kate first meet again, it is following a playground accident in which Cutter was injured. The attraction is there, as strong as ever, for both of them but she’s wary of having her heart broken again. Despite this, she eventually suggests they marry to give him a better chance of keeping the children - but this is to be a marriage of convenience which they will annul once things are sorted. However, with family life feeling so right, their mutual attraction so strong, maybe their best laid plans could go so wrong - or so right?
This is the fourth and final book in this delightful series. As in all the books, it has robust, strong characters, plenty of trauma and drama and, of course, the Marietta Rodeo and people. It can be read as a standalone but the whole series is fantastic, so if you like cowboy romances, check them all out. This is a great addition to the series and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too for provided an ARC for me to read in exchange for this, my honest review.
Would you marry an old boyfriend to help him out of a jam?
That's exactly what Kate Canaday does.
When Kate discovers her former love, Finn Scott, is living in Marietta, she just wants to avoid him. But it becomes impossible when his little boy gets hurts in the school yard where Kate works. Kate and Finn share a lot of memories. Most are good, but the one Kate would rather forget is when Finn broke up with her because he got another woman pregnant. Ever since that day, Kate dates a lot of men and falls for them pretty quick, but she always dumps them soon after.
Finn is presently divorced and raising his twins on his own. One day he is served papers to appear in court. His ex-wife wants custody of the children and plans on leaving the country. When Finn finds out the judge values families, Finn fears he will lose his kids. He needs to find a wife to create that picture perfect family so the judge will let him keep his kids. Kate decides to be Finn’s stand in wife until after the court date. Will Kate and Finn be able to pull this off? Or will Kate quickly end the relationship like she is known to do?
This heartfelt story is proof that second chances can happen if you work hard enough for them. A definite must read book.
This is book 4 in the series and I have read them all. I have to say that this on is probably my favorite. It is a really nice second chance story. Finn and Kate were once engaged in college but Finn's one night stand prior to their engagement ended up pregnant. He made a choice to do the honorable thing and marry the expectant mother. In doing so he broke Kate's heart and she vowed that she would never let anyone hurt her that way again. Moving along six years later, Kate becomes what her sisters call a "serial dater" and her sisters hold an intervention because they are concerned for her. They make a bet that she won't date for a month and Kate agrees to it. Finn Scott moved to Marietta, after inheriting a rundown ranch that belonged to his friend and mentor. He is now divorced with custody of his twins. Finn's ex-wife files for custody of the children and wants to move out of the country with them. She is married to a wealthy man and Finn is desperate to keep his children. He finds out that the judge handling their case generally favors custody to the mother. When Finn and Kate first meet again, the attraction that they felt years ago is definitely there. But Kate doesn't want to have her heart broken again and she knows that Finn is the only man capable of doing so because he is the only man she has ever been in love with. Finn needs stability for the court hearing and Kate, loving both Finn and his children, doesn't want them to be separated. She suggests a marriage of convenience which they will annul once the custody hearing is over and things are sorted out. However, things get difficult when their feelings grow and being a family feels so right. This is a great book and I highly recommend it and the others in the series. I am not sure how many books will be in this series but I am hopeful that there will be more.
Choose Me, Cowboy was a total love fest to read. This second chance romance simply made me cry and laugh with its sweet and poignant story between two characters who are surprisingly multilayered. No simple resolution for these two. Both Kate and Finn have personal issues that they have to discover and deal with to actually move forward. Kate can drive you nuts with her constant indecision and bailing out at the first sign that her feelings for Finn are getting too deep to handle. But this girl isn't the least bit frustrating because you can actually understand where her insecurities are coming from. Finn is also having issues, starting with his being too honorable, thus making him lose Kate in the first place. He too has issues that need to be faced but his devotion to his kids and Kate are faultless. And that grand gesture in the end, a marvelous twist that would make readers go gaga.
I loved the twist of the female character being the serial dater, which is definitely usually a predominantly male role in any love em` and leave `em scenario.
Kate and Finn have history and the last thing Kate wants is Finn swooping in and messing up her perfectly happy uncommitted life. And while Kate can appreciate the irony of Finn getting his comeuppance at the hands of his vindictive ex-wife, Kate is woefully unable to look into the eyes of his adorable 5 year old twins and not want to do all she can to ensure Finn keeps custody of his kids.
But can Kate bury the hurt of the past and sacrifice her natural instinct of self-preservation to help the man who shattered her dreams and forced her to raise impenetrable walls around fragile heart?
Second chances are few and far between, but taking the risk can be terrifying!
3.5 stars!
This was another goodie from Tule. Despite its length, which is on the short side, the plot and the characters were really well developed. The town of Marietta, Montana came alive and was the perfect backdrop for Finn and Kate's second-chance romance.
Apart from the rushed ending, I became frustrated with Kate. I loved her spunk and that she stood up to Finn's ex. But I didn't buy her reasoning behind the shitty decisions she made. I feel for her but she definitely was at fault the first time they broke up and also with the second one. It seems like her reasons were all in her head. Like everything was in her head. She totally ruined her own love life for reasons I still didn't understand.
Despite my frustration with Kate, I loved Finn and his twins. And Kate did manage to save the day in the end. So overall, I still liked this one very much!
This book is warm and complex and filled with love and hope and mistakes and second chances and so much more. Barbara Anstrum has written a simply gorgeous love story in Choose Me Cowboy.
Kate Canaday is bright, intelligent, loyal, and filled with self doubt when it comes to her relationships with men. She met and fell in love with Finn Scott at college but ran from that relationship when she felt herself getting serious. When Finn had a brief fling with another woman who subsequently got pregnant and whom he married as a result, Kate convinced herself she hated Finn. Six years later they meet again. Finn's been divorced for four years and is raising his five year-old twins as a single father. Kate finds herself falling in love not just with Finn but also with the children but first she has to overcome doubts about her ability to make things work.
Finn is gorgeous. I could use a Finn in my life though my husband might object. Finn is a former rodeo bull rider who has signed up to do two final rides to secure the money he needs to rebuild the run-down ranch he has inherited. At the same time he is raising his two children whom he clearly adores. Add his cowboy god looks and you have the perfect package. He's never stopped loving Kate though he has an uphill battle both to prove it to her and to convince her to give their relationship a chance.
This book is filled with bittersweet moments, yet there is humour as well and a hefty dose of love, both the romantic kind and the kind that families have for their own. Barbara Ankrum is so good at creating images and making the reader feel like she is just watching the story unfold through a window! Her writing flows effortlessly across the page and it is as though you are feeling what Kate and Finn are feeling. I loved this book. It's a keeper!
So I got to the last page of my Kindle edition of Choose Me, Cowboy and just simply sighed. This is what many romance novels want to be when they grow up. Romance in a real world of ex-wives, divorce, child custody gone crazy, lost love, missed love and finding the way to have faith not only in the one you love but in yourself as well.
Kate had been devastated at a choice Finn had made years ago. Oh, sure she serial dated these days but there was a reason that she never allowed any other man to stick. Even if she denied it until her dying day there was a huge chunk of her heart that still and always would belong to Finn. She would deny it to herself and anyone who’d listen to her, but the truth was there – she simply had to become brave enough to acknowledge it and accept it.
When Finn and his 5 year old twins settled back in Marietta, Montana he knew that one day he’d run into Kate again. At this point he wasn’t sure if that was going to be a good thing or a horrible idea. But he knew that eventually it would happen. He had screwed up royally with Kate. Sure she’d made mistakes too but none as huge as his. Now he just wanted some peace and quiet – something he was not about to get any time soon.
Kate and Finn’s first meeting wasn’t under the best of circumstances but they survived it. And as much as Kate wanted to deny or ignore it, Finn could still stir her up faster than a nest of hornets. When she’d seen the legal papers on the coffee table she knew he was in trouble. But could she help him in the way he needed most right now? That could lead to a disaster – or the best choice she’d ever made. Time would tell the outcome, but keeping her heart safe from the only man she’d ever truly loved was a losing battle.
Choose Me, Cowboy brings back together two lovers who had left each other under the worst possible circumstances. Each had made mistakes, had they learned from them. Maybe, hopefully. But Kate would do anything to keep Finn’s kids with him and not be torn away by a vindictive, money hungry vixen like his ex-wife. The woman who’d torn Kate’s dreams into shreds once would not harm those children. Did she expect to find that love hadn’t died? Was she ready to believe in second chances? Maybe. But there was a lot to get through before Finn and Kate could depend on that happily ever after for them.
Finn and Kate are as realistic as your neighbors down the street. Life happens and sometimes it simply sucks, but you move on. This story was completely believable, heart wrenching as well as heartstrings tugged hard. I completely loved this story, and as I mentioned it is for the chance to find a story like this that I read as much as I do. If you love a good strong romance with characters that scream real and situations that any of us might find ourselves in – then you need to pick up a copy of Choose Me, Cowboy today.
*I received an e-ARC of Choose Me, Cowboy from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
When second chance romances are done right I relish reading them. Choose Me, Cowboy (Montana Born Rodeo 2015, Book 4) by Barbara Ankrum is one I absolutely enjoyed from beginning to end. I will be the first to admit that the premise of this story is totally unbelievable. Still the make believe wedding didn’t bother me a bit since the emotions, reservations, and hopes of Kate and Finn were right on the mark.
Finn’s children were delightfully wonderful but so were Kate and Finn, not to mention her two nosy, meddlesome sisters. Ms. Ankrum even gave us a villain to loath so you could not help but root for this new little family to succeed. What a fun romantic story that leans to the serious side since the children’s future is at stake. Now I’m looking for more to read by Barbara Ankrum.
4.5 Stars The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.
Love is lovelier the second time around. College sweethearts Kate Canaday and Finn Scott met again many years after their days at the university. Kate is now a respectable kindergarten teacher while Finn, who continues to be a rodeo rider, is now a single dad to twins.
Star-crossed though they maybe, there are sparks between them that they cannot deny. So, against their better judgment and for the sake of the children, they decided to have a marriage of convenience with a sunset clause. After Finn and his children are settled, Kate will move on with her life.
Well, no good deed goes unpunished. Kate found herself back in love with her old boyfriend and totally under the spell of his two children. What does she do?
“Choose Me, Cowboy” is book 4 of the Montana Born Rodeo and Barbara Ankrum has another winner in her hand. A fast and sweet read, it will be hard to put down once you start because you just want to know what happens to Kate and Finn.
“Choose Me, Cowboy” is Rated T for Teens due to some adult situations.
Kate ran from the past, is running from the present and then the past collides with her present and she now has to make a choice to either stop and face it or keep running. She just gets done making a bet with her sisters when she see the double of her college ex boyfriend and the only person she has ever loved but she knows its not possible that he would be in her home town especially after what he put her through, right? Finn knows there is a chance of running into the love of his life but he is willing to take the risk for his favorite and most important two people in his life his kids. As things start to settle down it seems that he or is it she comes crashing into each others lives with one goal in mind keep his kids safe and happy. Will they be able to move past the past and forgive and come together for a common goal or will everything continue to fall apart?
I really like this book, some of it seemed intense due to the way that the story line was heading but not some much that you don't find yourself getting lost in it. There was one moment broken up by what appeared to be a famous line from the show Friends and that was a perfect part. The story draws you in and keeps you drawn in. I love when and Author can write such strong personalities of kids into a book and make it worth the continuing reading. this book ties the series tougher perfectly. So fun, and worth the read.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley/Tule Publishing for an honest review. "Choose Me, Cowboy" by Barbara Ankrum is book 4 in the Montana Born Rodeo 2015. This is Kate Canaday and Finn Scott's story.
Finn and Kate go way back. Finn made a decision years ago that broke Kate's heart. Finn now a single dad is back in town with his twins. Kate and Finn meet after all these years and the chemistry between is still there. She saw some legal papers that Finn had left out and knows he is in trouble. Will Kate help him?
This is a great romance about second chances and forgiveness. This story is not lacking in humor and chemistry. I really enjoyed the story. I fell in love with the characters. This is a great read for when you need an escape. FYI, contains mature content.

In keeping with the poignant second chances theme that seems to have run through this year's Rodeo series, Finn and Kate also need to overcome a shared past and the obstacles they put in their way to get their HEA. Kate and Finn were engaged and planning the wedding when a one night stand showed up pregnant. Finn chose his child over his love, and paid disastrously for it. Kate spent the intervening years as a very serial monogamist (10 relationships in 12 months one of those years). To say that both were unhappy would be a vast understatement.
And yet, it is a chance meeting in Marietta that re-opens old wounds but also re-opens lines of communication. Finn is now a single father fighting to maintain custody of his twins and Kate is a kindergarten teacher who helps his son. And so, they slowly move into an uncertain dance of fear, confusion, passion, and love. It is a slow move from resentment and anger on Kate's part to helping Finn with the custody case. And before they know it, they are married. But those lines of communication are still not open enough and secrets threaten to derail the case and the marriage.
I liked the story a lot. It had a goodly amount of angst, fit thematically with the other books in the series. Finn was appropriately both apologetic and unapologetic. He loves his kids; he wouldn't have them if he had stayed with Kate. Kate is appropriately fearful and ambivalent. She needs him to choose her; to feel like she is important. She also needs to grow up a bit and make hard choices of her own.
This story is about second chance at love between Kate and Finn.
Kate and Finn were in love and ready to be wed but Kate wasn't sure if she was ready for marriage and she wanted a break from him for awhile and Finn has a fling with someone and she is pregnant so Finn choose Kate over her. After that relationship ended she was not into relationships, just into dating different types of men. Her sister's worried that Kate will never settle down, so she dare her not to date anyone for a month. Within a month, she is reunited with Finn at her school while she was subbing for kindergarten teacher when she witness one of his kid falls from the playground. She knew the twins but she didn't know it was his twins. Finn was in nasty custody fight with his ex-wife and Kate decided to help him out by fake marriage. Kate was sure she could fake the marriage until the hearing but everything turns sideways when Kate falls in love with her kids and with Finn again. To add to the mix, ex-wife comes to Marietta and lurks around the kids and Kate. Will Kate and Finn give each other a second chance and will Finn finally choose Kate?
I did enjoy reading this book. I started this one first and working my way backwards. some of the story line remind me of Rachel and Ross from Friends. If you are looking for second chance at love, I would recommend this one.
I had mixed feelings about this one, for all Finn Scott claims to love Kate Canaday I honestly think that had he not run into her at the school when his son fell, he never would have sought her out.
Finn knew when he moved to Marietta this is where Kate was from and ultimately throughout the story I felt like she did all the work in their relationship.
The only happy thing in this story was that Kate gets the guy she loves at the end
Rating 3 out of 5 Read@Book
What a sweet read! With enough character history to make the story interesting and those really cute kids, this novel is really a great way to spend a couple hours on a lazy afternoon. I also like how the characters keep moving forward, and even when things get tough they talk it out. A do almost wish it hadn't been wrapped up so nicely in the end, but it was a good read.
A short and sweet read from Barbara Ankrum.
the author brings us a great plot and characters that are very well developed. The beautiful town of Marietta, Montana came alive under Barbara Ankrum, and i found it just the right backdrop for Finn and Kate's second-chance at romance unfold.
At times Kate really annoyed me but then at others she didn't i loved her can do attitude and her spunk which surly made the book what it is.
Finn was just awesome i loved him and the twins they stood out for sure as my favourites.
Overall a great read and i look forward to reading more from this author.
