Description
I'm different now. I won't be that girl again. I'm in control. I'm the one who's going to leave him wishing he'd given me his everything when he had the chance...
Lana Raeven and Jarek Dean shared a night of passion, but the next morning, she woke up alone. Nine years later, Lana works as a successful event coordinator for a prestigious company. Bold and confident in every area but love, she hasn’t ever recovered from Jarek’s abandonment. However, a chance encounter with her former lover grants her an opportunity to take back her power.
Rather than chastising him for his cruelty, she plays unfazed and invites him back into her life. Using her ingenuity and sensuality as weapons, she draws him in with the intention of destroying him as he once destroyed her. But her plan for revenge isn’t as simple as she initially believed, for the more time she spends with Jarek, the more she’s reminded of why she loved him. And if she isn’t careful, she could lose him all over again.

3.5 to 4 stars.
I’m finding it difficult to rate this debut as, on the one hand, I didn’t love the writing style, and on the other hand, it still moved me to tears.
This novel was written from Lana’s POV and was pretty introspective and, as a consequence, was heavy on prose and light on dialogue, especially in the first half of the novel. I love interaction and dialogue between characters and, although the reader gets to understand Lana’s character very well, I found it difficult to find any depth in Jarek, until much nearer the end.
Lana and Jarek have been friends and kindred spirits since he came to live with Lana’s family in their teens. Shortly after her father died when she was 17, Lana turned to Jarek for love and comfort, but the next morning he disappeared out of her life, and nine years later, he suddenly returns to town on business.
She still harbours ill-feeling towards him as he completely broke her heart. Jarek’s attempts to spend time with Lana and rekindle old feelings, but never discusses his reasons for leaving, which is all that Lana wants. To get closure and show him that she really didn’t care about the past, they embark on a sexual relationship, but can she really deny that she still loves him?
We also see Lana’s somewhat dysfunctional relationship with her two sisters and mother and, as the novel progresses, certain secrets come to light. The book moved me as the grief and hurt Lana feels is very real.
So, all in all, although the writing style was not my favourite, the emotions of the main character came through, but I struggled with Jarek. He may have been a billionaire but he was no alpha – he was very much still the same character that Lana knew as a boy, which wasn’t a bad thing because that guy was sweet and cared a great deal about her. However, I just wanted to see more character development and, really, no one becomes that rich unless they had more drive and grit.
I have mixed feelings on this book. I did like the story and the way the book compared to a modern Cinderella type story.
The strong emotions were conveyed very well with Lana. The author had you feeling everything she felt and feeling sorry for her to a point. On the other hand I felt she lived in the past mistakes with Jarek. I would have liked more on him. I like the last part, the book picked up pace and finished nicely.
so over all I would it was worth the read but it could have offered a bit more.
Lana has a lot of growing up to do. I get that her heart was broken but to seek vengeance and place her heart and integrity in the line again? Not smart. She is a very needy woman with a huge fear of abandonment. The story is ok, I just wish she had more growth. Jarek is all sexy and all there.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
There were parts of this story I absolutely loved. I loved the storyline and I thought it was well written. I was not as much of a fan of the characters. I really could not find myself liking Lana. I just felt she was immature. The story had sweet moments and it had moments that I wanted to throw my reading device. Overall, a very good book.
Lana and Jarek spent one night together, but nine years later Lana proves that one night wasn't nearly enough. Jarek left because he was scared of his feelings for Lana, but all this time he was pining away for her. The two characters had great chemistry. I really liked this book. Can't wait to read other books by this author.
3.5 stars here...
Rags to riches story and a 2nd chance love story all in one... I think a Anna did a good job with the characters of Jarek and Lana.
I did have a hard time with the character of Lana though at times. I thought she seemed much younger than she was in real life. I could understand her feelings of betrayal though and need for revenge.
Jarek, well, I pretty much liked him from the start. I think he was the scene stealer in every part of the book and wish that we could have had more of his thoughts in the book.
I did enjoy the book and I would recommend it to others. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Although it took me a bit to get into this book I fell in love with this story once I came back to it. I was in a dark reading mood when I started it so I had to hit my mental refresh.. lol Anyway, on to my review :)
Lana was such a cool character, sexy, independant, and real. She comes from a wealthy family but acts like she is the farthest from that. She has such an awesome attitude and such true heart.
Jarek is the sexy boy that she lost and will never let back into her life. Well not completely anyway. lol Jarek is such a sweetheart, sexy as hell, and so full of heart. He will do anything for those he loves and everything to be back in her life.
This story has a strong roller coaster feel but it is such an awesome love story. These two broke my heart and made my heart happy. Lana's family is quite hilarious in their ridiculousness.
This is the first book I have read by Anna Karington but I will definitely be reading more by her!!
I received this book from netgalley in exchange for my honest review I adored the characters in this book they were friends growing up n he up n left her right after losing her father who saved him and he tries to rekindle their relationship she finds out why he left n the best argument happen . She goes and confronts him about it the hea at the end awesome
This book was fairly good but it could have been much better. I thought the way the author was descriptive with the writing was excellent but I would've liked more dialogue between the characters in the story. Too much was said in Lana's head and a lot of it should've/could've been voiced to Jarek, in my opinion. I felt her way of getting back at him was a bit of a stretch; it had no affect on him. It wasn't drastic enough for my taste. I know deep down she still cared for him but if she still wanted to hurt him I thought she could've done more action wise instead of speaking mean to him. There were scenes in this book that were lacking and a bit of a "turn off". The scenes with them having sex every time and him/her grabbing the "lube", did not cut it for me. That kind of took away from the scene. It didn't make it romantic or special or hot (or sexy). Overall this was a good book but it has potential of being a great book.
I normally love a good second chance story but when the main character is too bitter to even give the chance and just use the opportunity to "teach a lesson" draws me up short. Im not taking sides here but it takes two to tango.
Now lets focus here on the story itself. The emotions written are very realisitic and written in a way to obtain sympathy for Lana. Jerek is a caring kind man but to be classified as an alpha male is not where id put him. Lana's family have much to do with her reactions to certain events and maybe thats where i find the difficulties. The cruelty to her and the need to compete shouldn't be a family trait in my book. If its something someone finds exciting then sure, go for this book! Otherwise I'd take a step back from this.
I enjoyed this book, it was very well written descriptive/dialogue wise. I think there could have been more between Jarek and Lana towards the end it felt a little rushed for an ending. The story was good and there was a lot of emotion throughout, would recommend.
Excellent storyline! I finished in two sittings, eager to see the plot unfold. With many secrets and villians that keep the reader enthralled with where things will go. Loved the true vulnerability expressed by strong female lead. I cant wait for more from this author!
A great second-chance novel. I love how Jerek really wants to fix his mistakes. But that those mistakes weren't all his. Lana's been everyone's pawn for years, and seeing her grow out of that makes this novel fantastic. Brilliantly written and very hard to put down.

3.5 stars..
Lana and Jarek have been since he came to live with her family in their teens.. Shortly after her dad died Lana turned to Jarek for love and comfort only to have him disappear out of her life the very next morning.. Then out the blue quite a few years later he shows up back in town.. Lana of course is still filled with hurt and betrayal with the way Jarek left.. She wants to hate him and have him feel what she felt after he left her.. but she is just drawn to him.. I really love the second chance books.. and even though this may not have been my fav.. I did enjoy the read.. Reviewed by Gail with Night and Day Book Blog
v EVERY TIME HE LEAVES by Anna Karington is a sexy read from an author who shows great promise. I've always been a sucker for second-chance-at-love stories, and this delivers in spades. When Jarek and Lana have a one night stand and then meet up years later, Lana plans her revenge against him; only to discover that they still have a good deal of unfinished business (and romance) left in them. The couple has great chemistry together, chemistry that often explodes off the pages. Looking forward to more upcoming works by Anna Karington.
5 Stars for this romantic yet hot story.
Jana and Jerek have not seen each other in 9 years when he surprisingly shows up at an event she was working. The attraction is still there after all those years, but Jana has no plans to get her heart broken again.
The story takes us through secrets revealed about that fateful night and where he has been. While trying to muddle through their issues her own mom and sister are trying to create more.
In the end good wins out over bad, but not before some family ties are broken.
Overall this was a great read. Quick, easy read, and the drama was unique enough in its creation that I was not put out or annoyed with the story.
I loved this book. It had me intrigued from the first page to the last.
Good story, attractive leads, but too much of the book is spent in the heroine's angsty head which gets boring as she whines, castigates herself repeatedly and plots. A bit more of an outward focus would have improved the book, with more interaction between hero and heroine. The bedroom scenes were nicely written, better than the usual autopilot sex. Promising.
Romance with a twist. I did not see the reason for Jarek's abandonment coming...at all. After reading it, I wasn't surprised that was the reason, but I still had not seen that one coming..which I appreciate from an author!
The writing style was fantastic, but I had a hard time with some of the characters. It seemed like Lana just was somewhat bitter and having a woe is me dialogue for parts of the book. Jarek was confusing, he came back all successful, but couldn't figure out what was wrong with the girl he abandoned? The sisters and mom seem horrible...so I guess my problem is not how they were created and presented, but that I didn't really like any of the characters that much..except maybe the attorney? Thankfully, as the story progressed I did start to like Lana, Jarek and Janet.
AK creates realistic emotional scenes and intimate moments in her story. While I thought some of the book was a bit too much from Lana POV, I can easily see someone having those thoughts, concerns and feelings if they were in her situation. For those that enjoy romances with a happy ending and a few twists in the plot I would recommend this book!
