"Trailblazers,” set in the late 1970s when women were taking a more active role in the military, picks up where “Refined by Fire” left off. West Point cadets Lori and Trish meet lieutenants Anne, Maura, and Amelia as they experience their six week Cadet Troop Leader Training in the active duty military in West Germany. As the cadets gain a greater understanding of life in the military, the Maura and Anne mentor Lori and Trish through the potential minefield of earning the respect of their sometimes-stubborn male peers. In the end, Trish and Lori learn much more than military principles and take their newfound confidence back to West Point, even more determined to make it through to graduation.
