Description
Madalyn S. Kinsey has recently
published The Mystery of Gatewood Airport set in Fishers and
Noblesville, Indiana, during the summer of 1967. This is the second novel in
the Vanessa Mystery Series about 14-year-old Vanessa and the adventures she
encounters while visiting family on the family farm. In the latest book,
Vanessa and her cousins are swept into a whirl of activities at the municipal
airport located across the street from the farm. They pull together clues
indicating that a local bigwig is up to no good using airport facilities that
may involve exotic animal smuggling. Secretly observing the airport from a tree
house built near the airport’s perimeter, Vanessa and her cousins piece
together a shady operation that must be stopped. Their efforts to thwart the
illegal activities almost cost them their lives, but teach Vanessa and the
others lessons in courage and comradery.
Meanwhile, Vanessa and local boy Jim resume a flirtation begun earlier
that summer, only to learn that relationships are rewarding, but complicated.
Filled with historic references to books, TV, movies, and music of the 1960s,
amusing interplay among the vividly drawn characters, and exciting flying passages.

Advance Praise
"In her second book of the Vanessa Mystery series, Ms. Kinsey returns us
to the summer of 1967 and to rural Fishers, Indiana. On a warm August
morning, 14-year old Vanessa receives a concerning phone call from her
younger cousin, Emma, to help solve a problem for the family. Vanessa
immediately heads to the cousins’ farm to help Emma find a solution.
During her visit, Vanessa quickly learns that something more menacing
and illegal may be going on at the family’s private airport across the
road. Soon the cousins (with a couple of new friends) are reunited to
solve the mystery. Having received an Award of Literary Excellence from
Dog Ear Publishing and rich with historical references to Fishers,
Indiana and the late 1960’s, The Mystery of Gatewood Airport is full of
humor, excitement, terror, personal courage, loss and the innocence of
first love. For those who have read Ms. Kinsey’s first book (The Ghost
of Cheeney Creek ©2014), you will quickly find yourself back together
with this now too familiar group of high-energy, creative, smart, and
hilarious group of cousins - laughing at their crazy banter, worrying
about their personal safety, hoping that first love won’t result in
broken hearts, and remembering the nostalgic songs and television shows
of the late 1960’s. I can’t wait for Ms. Kinsey to publish her next
book in this series to once again be reunited with Vanessa and her
country cousins as they experience their next adventure in Central
Indiana. Read this book – you’ll love it!"--Amazon Reviewer
"I just received my copy and have read the first two chapters. This is another coup for Madalyn Kinsey who has managed to write a second book which will do the seemingly impossible...grab the undivided attention of both boys and girls; not an easy task although Ms Kinsey manages it effortlessly. With each chapter ending on a cliff hanger, the reader is drawn back again and again. In fact, I am going back for more right now! Join me." -- J. Quinn, Amazon

About the Author:
Madalyn Kinsey was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has lived and worked as a corporate attorney in Indianapolis, Chicago, and San Francisco. Searching for inspiration for her writing, she called upon fond memories of frequent childhood visits with cousins on the family farm near Fishers, Indiana, where abandoned buildings, a Civil War-era graveyard only steps from the house (rumored to be haunted by a Civil War soldier), a mysterious creek running through the property, and a nearby municipal airport, made her real-life visits fascinating and full of adventure. Those memories have inspired the plots of her Vanessa Mysteries series, the first of which was The Ghost of Cheeney Creek, and now its sequel, The Mystery of Gatewood Airport. In each book, her main character, 14-year old Vanessa, and her cousins and their friend, Jim, are swept into new and different adventures requiring courage and commitment to friendship and family. When not writing, Madalyn practices corporate law with an Indianapolis law firm, and enjoys classic movies, ghost hunting, travel, art fairs, and flying.
