Description
Miss Wilhelmina Moon is a dog governess. At her first placement, on a small island off the coast of France, her new charges - sixty-seven dogs of all shapes, sizes and colors - run wild. But armed with patience and a passion for teaching, as well as her companions, Mitford the monkey and Petunia the French bulldog, Miss Moon soon imparts twenty important lessons to her furry brood. Some are practical, some are playful, one or two are a little unusual, but all are necessary for the raising of happy, healthy and well-mannered dogs (and humans).
Advance Praise
“Twenty succinct bits of advice for living are accompanied by whimsical oil paintings of an English governess and her canine charges. The book begins with a tongue-in-cheek introduction, advising readers that Miss Wilhelmina Moon, dog governess, is sharing her 'most important lessons for raising happy, healthy, well-mannered pooches—and people.' This is followed by 20 attractively laid-out double-page spreads. . . . A wide variety of dog breeds are accurately portrayed in a post-impressionist style—except for the anthropomorphic details that cannot help but charm viewers. . . . Enchanting for dog lovers.” - Kirkus Review

A wonderfully illustrated book. The pictures are bright with color and brightness. This book is a need in any dog person's home.
"Opening" this book was a surprise when I saw that there was not a narrative story inside. Instead, this is more like a collection of artwork and captions. Each page consists of a small piece of advice from Miss Moon directed toward dogs (or humans), and an accompanying illustration of Miss Moon and the dogs following that advice (or doing their best to). Although there is very little text in this book, the imagery is thoughtfully detailed and absolutely gorgeous. I did not expect myself to spend so long in a book with so little to read, but the depth of the illustrations really brings Miss Moon's world to life. Whether you are reading this as an adult or to a child, I am sure you will find loads to love in these pages and frequently revisit Miss Moon, her advice, and her silly dogs.
