THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED by Derek Cavignano is a biotech murder mystery that you won't want to miss. The book hooks the reader from the very start with a mysterious elderly man dying in Jacob Hanley's arms. Before dying, the man whispers a few last words that don't make any sense to Jacob.

Jacob is soon on the hunt to find the meaning of the words and the real reason for the man's death. He uncovers a heinous scheme by the founder of the biotech Symbios Innovations whose employees follow him like cult worshippers. Hans Streisser, the leader of the cultish Symbios, who is also known as the Great Elder, has discovered the secret of immortality and will protect this knowledge at all costs.

This story is set on the streets of Boston which make a good backdrop for the Great Elder's murderous plot and evil father-son henchmen team. Jacob finds himself in a life or death battle til the end. The story gets a little bogged down at times with Jacob's preoccupation with his wife's death, but other than that it is a solid and creative thrill ride.

In THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED by Derik Cavignano decisions aren't made unless sacrifices follow. This intriguingly different book kept my mind busy until the last page was read. The title alone was enough to make the reader think about the whys and wherefores of the up and coming events. Who are the wicked and who are the righteous? Will Jacob Hanley be able to tell the good from the evil? And will he be able to put Megan's memory to rest? Without her he felt as though he was nothing. How can he live without her? His heart had been broken when she past away leaving him here to face everything alone. He felt useless. In this amazing story will Jacob, what we consider a strong willed person, be able to fight the good fight and come out the victor over the wicked? Jacob's character seemed lost. He didn't really know what he wanted to do with his life. Megan was always there for him. She helped with decisions. But now she was gone. Can he pick up the pieces and move on with his life?
Then suddenly Jacob was pushed into a reality that others did not see clearly but him. Can he get others to see what is going on around them, or will he be led into over-whelming danger and not be able to help others from the evil? A very good read.

In Boston, Jacob Hanley is grieving due to the unexpected, sudden death of his wife. Jacob is at a restaurant waiting for his meal, when an old man speaks a few words making no sense to Jacob and then dies in his lap. Jacob becomes curious when he discover the old man is only 30 years old. How did he age so quickly? Jacob's curiousity has him going to the dead man's home to supposedly tell the relatives that the man is dead but no one is there. He wonders who the great elder is? Who or what is Symbois? He goes to the computer in the home and discovers a mysterious file that he downloads and copies to his email. He is caught by two goons who tell him in more ways than one to get out. When Jacob arrives home, he decides to send a copy of the email to a friend who works in a lab. Meanwhile Ray, his brother is asked to look into what happen to the dead man but his boss tells him no. As Ray investigates on his own, Jacob gets into more trouble. Why is it that no one in the echelons of the law system isn't interested in why the man died of old age? Jacob discovers a cult that wants to change the earth.

The novel is a hard-boiled urban fantasy thriller. It is full of twists and turns. Included in this terrific story is science fiction besides plots of friendship, heartbreak and loss. The author has written an excellent novel. This novel is fast-paced. It is a must read novel. I only hope there is a sequel as I am not sure what will happened to the cult. Doesithe cult continue?

This is a super fast read that holds your attention. Jacob Hanley's wife died. That was 15 months ago. He is nearly non-functional. Grief and depression are his daily companions. Jacob is about to have lunch at a dinner, and one day this man walks in. He's in bad shape and DIES in his arms. However, he doesn't die before talking to Jacob about the Great Elder. Oh well, the guy was super old and that happens right? Wrong! The man who died his arms was only 30 years old! What happened to him?

With a buizness card for a lead, Jacob and his brother, Ray, who happens to be a detective, start to find out what was the deal behind the old-young dead guy. Will this lead Jacob to the Great Elder, and is that a good or bad thing? Is the Great Elder evil? He sure seems to be, he is running a giant corporation, but things aren't always as they seem. Is this one of those cases? Can Jacob get a life and heal? Can Jacob change the world, or is he just a guy, who's wife died.

My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.

Jacob Hanley thought his life was bad, but it was about to get worse when an old man died in his arms in a diner. The man had left his license on the table, and when Jacob picked it up, he discovered the man was really only 30 years old. So began Jacob's quest for the truth. The young man, Charlie Riggs had worked at Symbios for Hans Streisser, also known as the Great Elder by his followers, or Immortals. Was the Great Elder a true genius or crazy? His visions were of a world of Ethereals that would have to access our world by a tear in the universe. Charlie had chronicled his work on the Project Noah with Symbios, and left a copy on his computer. When Charlie died, Cappetti, the Great Elder's vicious goon, was supposed to retrieve it. Jacob got there first, and from then on, his life and those around him, became a nightmare. This was great!

On that day, a very old man rushes up to him in a restaurant, gives him a cryptic message about the Order, Symbios, and the Great Elder, then dies in his arms. Haunted by the old man who died in his arms, and curious to find out more about him, he discovers that the man was only thirty years old. Now, Jacob is interested. Thus begins an adventure that changes Jacob’s life.

This is a fun exploration into the imaginative world of the enticing company called Symbios and a terrifying introduction to the chilling, power-hungry Great Elder. The characters are well- developed. The plot flows along effortlessly and smoothly, and the scenes are vividly described. The nonstop action starts at the beginning of the book and continues to the end, capturing the reader immediately, and holding her till the end. This is a fun story!
