Description

You don’t know Jack—Jack Reacher, that is . . .

In The Jack Reacher Field Manual: An Unofficial Companion to Lee Child’s Reacher Novels, from ex-Army major and New York Times bestselling author George Beahm, get up-close and personal with Reacher like never before.

The only book of its kind, the Field Manual draws on 17 years of interviews, novels, stories, and more to demystify author Lee Child’s larger-than-life, name-taking, quick-thinking one-man avenger. Child calls the Reacher novels “almost entirely autobiographical,” and The Jack Reacher Field Manual seamlessly integrates the literary creator and his creation to provide the most complete portrait of Jack Reacher available.

Dive into Jack Reacher’s life with:
- A detailed dossier on Reacher and his life at West Point and in the Army’s Military Police Corps
- Reacher’s rules of engagement, including how he handles a street brawl
- A full-color drifter’s roadmap of the US, detailing the places Reacher has visited in the novels
- Reacher’s philosophy for surviving under the radar
- A biography on Child and an A-to-Z list of the key people, places, and things in his life
- And more, including a glossary of US Army acronyms that appear in the series and a comprehensive reading list of Reacher novels, novellas, and stories

The Jack Reacher Field Manual belongs in the fatigue jacket of any fan craving more information about this internationally popular literary antihero.

Eh. Not very impressed.

I requested this book because I thought it would be like a key to some of the personal information that those of us who haven't been able to read each one of the books could use to help catch up. But it wasn't. It was more about the author himself and the origins of the Reacher character and then some about Jack but it was not what I thought it would be. I am giving it a 3 because I am not sure it belongs in this category or could at least fit in more than one. It is a good book but just not what I was expecting from the title..

There are Siri on iPhone, Cortana on Windows, Jasper on Android... the "assistants", ready to help and answer your questions.

For those interested in Jack Reacher, there’s George, now. "George" is for George Beahm, author of the "The Jack Reacher Field Manual" (I hope he will forgive me if I play with his name). It’s not a book to be read as a story from beginning to end (after all, how many people do you know that, those spend hours chatting with their virtual assistants?). It’s a volume to refer to when needed, or when the curiosity arises. It’s a deep and complex collection of informations on the character of Jack Reacher, on Lee Child, on topics around them, on the military life, on the world of thriller tales… An encyclopedic collection, filled to the brim, recommended to fans of Reacher and also to those who are just approaching his novels. Or to those who want to look good by beating their friends in a quiz game on Reacher...

For me this book didn't really meet my expectations, or its own description- I expected more and was quite disappointed that the book was mainly full of quotes and information that you can find elsewhere on the internet for free if you look. It is good that the detail is all in one place if you don't want to go looking. A good idea but for me it fell flat and not what I was expecting.

Super-lightweight companion volume, with interviews of Child, military glossary, timelines of the books' plots to piece together Reacher's life, essays about fan reaction to the Hollywood casting of a short A-list person, and the problem the escalating surveillance state poses to a character who travels with only a toothbrush.
