I received this book free in exchange for a fair review. Thanks to the author, Chesapeake Books and NetGalley.
This book has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster and it speeds along nearly as fast. Lots of mysteries in this book but they are all resolved in the end.
The lead belly dancer is assumed to die in a club fire, but the police concentrate on the death of the club owner who is shot to death during this fire. Jeanne, our main character, was also dancing and is the main witness . She is a contract lawyer by day who is learning dancing. She greaves for her friend and teacher, co-ops friends and strangers alike to determine why it happened.
A very convoluted novel with lots of great detective work only an ex agent would think of. Great interaction between characters, verbal sparring with Fergus was funny, lots of other light touches throughout the book.
It was a really good read, very enjoyable. Only cravat is maybe just a little too smart and lucky to be totally believable.
A fun and interesting read of a genre I don't normally delve too deeply in to, I actually enjoyed Haga's Last Dance. I stay away from mysteries since I seem to either solve them too early on, or they tend to drift off on plot (but then again, I need to read more of them!), this book made me want to pick up another Jeanne Pelletier Mystery!
A protagonist with a double life assembles a quirky team to solve a mystery. A page turner.
I struggled to get into this book, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The story unfolded in a way I didn't see coming at all. The characters are well rounded, and I would happily read more about them if this book ended up as a series. Maybe with one of the supporting characters as a focal point of each book as they solved more crimes?
This is a smart, funny, tricky, and highly intelligent mystery with a super protagonist in Jeanne. I haven't encountered many novels this tuned into DC and its residents. There were no false notes in the people (loved Jerry's declaration of why he had time to help her) , the locations (she nailed GMU, the local bars and restaurants, and the National Cathedral) , and the culture (especially at the law firm.) Even better, Klovers provides a interesting look into Islam and some of the long standing problems in the Middle East. This is an extremely well written novel which deserves a broad audience. THanks to Netgalley for the ARC- I'm looking forward to more from Klovers. HIGHLY recommend.
I enjoyed this book very much. It kept me turning pages as quickly as I could. The author is a skilled mystery writer.
A fascinating, very complex murder mystery solved by some amateur sleuths. Great fun to read with serious sections and some very amusing ones. Really good character descriptions and a free flowing story line with a very clever conclusion.
