I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
A hot spicy and sexy short story romance. A brief affair between business partners and long term friends is all that Fiona expects of Johnny as neither of them are the settling down type. The attraction is strong, the chemistry off the scale. But he wants more than one night. An easy, quick read. Too short I wanted more, shame it was not a full length book. 3.5*
Although entertaining, book 5 in the Whiskey River series doesn’t really offer anything much in terms of surprises. Johnny Gamble and Fiona Lannigan have been friends for years and partners at their law firm. And a kiss under the mistletoe a couple of months beforehand has stirred something in both of them.
“Once they’d scratched the itch they could go back to being friends.”
Johnny and Fiona were sexy together, but everything was a little too insta and lacked the emotional development of previous books which took the shine off them. I think I’d have preferred a HFN in their case rather than a HEA as it’s short length didn’t really suit this, it just seemed a little clichéd.
A fair addition to the series, but not my favourite.
It’s an office romance with a twist! In “The Valentine Gamble”, both Johnny Gamble and Fiona Lannigan are peers and equals. After all, they are founders and name partners in the law firm they work at.
Also, they had known each other since law school. Though they pursued separated careers after graduation, they reunited in Whiskey River, Texas when they opened a law office with another former classmate.
There has been sparks between Johnny and Fiona for a long time. But, the saying once bitten, twice shy hold true for both of them. Their pasts made them gun shy when it comes to serious relationships that is until the annual Valentine’s Day dance. They found themselves “matched” and all bets were off after some very passionate kisses.
The attraction is real. Yet, the real question is can they let go of their pasts so that they can have a happy future?
Short and sweet, “The Valentine Gamble” has all the elements of romance that is perfect for the day of lovers. A fast and easy read that will make you smile as you peruse the pages.
“The Valentine Gamble” is Rated M for Mature due to sexual content.
This was a sweet, short and sexy read. I enjoyed their banter back and forth, as well as, the sexual attraction between the two players. Johnny and Fiona work together and have known each other for a number of years. They have shared a few kisses over the years, but always resisted getting involved because of their pasts and work situation. But when Viola's friends get sneaky at the Valentine's dance and pair the two together for the night, it turns out to be way more than either of them planned on.
This story was fun and romantic and I really enjoyed it. It seemed like it was part of a series but I am not sure which one. However I did really enjoy it and it definitely can stand alone.
Fiona and Johnny are law partners with this other guy who just got married. They have been partners for many years and in the years F and J have only been close platonic friends. Johnny met Fionna in college right after his quickie marriage and divorce.
On the night of a bachelor auction F & J discover they are very attracted and from there the fun starts happening. I am not spoiling anything but it was fun to discover with J & F how they feel about each other. Despite Johnny being divorced he was not the stumbling block to their happiness. Rather its some thin in Fionna's past and I enjoyed her adventure to happily ever after.
I have read a few books of Katherine Garbera and few are on my "to-read" list. I love her books because they are hot and steamy, but her characters have intensity and depth... needless to say, madly in love. The Valentine's Gamble is no exception, even if it is a quick read. Who doesn't love office romance, especially if gets more interesting with lead characters who know each other well? Both Johnny and Fiona have known each other for a while (they were in law college together) and have fought their attraction for each other because they're hurt in the past and also because they don't want to muddle their partnership (now, they're partners in a law firm they've founded along with another friend). But things take a steamy turn when they're paired up on Valentine's Day (by Fiona's sneaky friends) and both realize it's no longer just about fun. Do they overcome their fears and lean on each other, or do they choose to let their fears run their life is the crux of the story. As usual, katherine has brought out the emotions well in this quick short read. A must-read for this Valentine's Day if you believe in love and HEA!
I really liked this short story. Fiona and Johnny were adorable and the chemistry was hot! I'd definitely be interested in reading more in the series. No Goodreads review since it's not on there, as far as I could tell.
The Valentine Gamble... This book had a great title and a good concept, but it was just too short to grab onto. The main characters were strong, successful, and likable. I found that they were also speedy quick on the draw, when it came to professing their love. I understood that they knew each other for a decade. I understood that they worked together since graduating from law school. Still, the story led me to believe that they connected more so through a professional means versus a personal one. With that said, it just didn't jive for me that they could be "in love" without the intimacy of a very close and personal kind of connection. Lust does not equate with love.

Chemistry/Intensity: Yes Conflict/Drama: No HEA: Yes
What a delightful, fun novella addition to this series - it was great to escape back to Whiskey River and the familiar characters there again, though I suspect it would also work well as a standalone (but I’m biased and, having read most of the books in the series I can’t really judge that properly).
I’ve read quite a few books by these authors, but don’t think I’ve read one they've written together before and it worked well! When you consider how short this novella is, it still manages to pack so much in, with a great plot, brilliant characters, twists and turmoil as well as a hot romance with two potential HEAs!
I recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed other books in this series or wants an introduction to it - it is obviously a lovely read for around Valentine’s Day, too!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
I have to say I did not enjoy this book as much as the other Whiskey River books I have read. Johnny and Fiona have good chemistry and a strong relationship but it just felt like this story was missing something though I can’t put my finger on what. Even though this one was not my favorite I am looking forward to more books in this series and to see what the authors have on store for some of the new characters we met. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Book six of the Whiskey River series, The Valentine Gamble by Eve Gaddy and Katherine Garbera is sexy, sweet, tender and just a pleasure to read. It's set in Texas so expect cowboy boots and cute little fringed skirts and quite a few Darlin's. I loved the fast pace. I loved the fact that the plot nicely balanced fun and true love. I loved Fiona and Johnny. All in all I loved this book.
3.5 stars
The Valentine Gamble was a fun, sweet and entertaining read.
Johnny and Fiona had a good connection, great chemistry and it was enjoyable watching them give into their mutual desire. They put away their fears about commitment to find happiness together, they truly were each other's "one"
I've enjoyed all the books in the Whiskey River Series and recommend them all.
Thank you to Tule Publishing via NetGalley for the advance copy.
"The Valentine Gamble" by Katherine Garbera and Eve Gaddy is book six in the "Whiskey River" series. This is Johnny Gamble and Fiona Lannigan's story.
Johnny and Fiona have known each for more than ten years. They went to college together and they are also partners in a law firm. Johnny and Fiona both feel the chemistry between them, but haven't really acted on it. They didn't want to ruin their friendship or working relationship. Things start to change after Johnny and Fiona get matched up at the Town's annual Valentine's Day dance.
This is a sweet and steamy read. Johnny's character was great! I loved how once he realized how he felt about Fiona he didn't give up. He handled his pursuit of Fiona in a way that wasn't overbearing, but sweet and romantic.
The authors do a great job of getting the reader's attention right away. It makes you wish you could go to Whiskey River and meet everyone. I have enjoyed all the books in the Whiskey River series. They can all be read as standalone but you will have more of a connection with the characters if you read the series. I recommend that you do because it is a fun and steamy series.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review. FYI, contains mature content.

I love returning to Whiskey River, and nothing is better than to celebrate Valentine's Day with Fiona and Johnny. They are lawyers in the same law firm, have known each other since their college days. They have always fought off the physical attraction between the two of them until the Valentine's Dance, where they are paired together. They can no longer fight off the attraction, what can one night hurt. Now Johnny has to prove his love is more than for one night of passion.
I could not put down this sweet but sexy romance between Johnny and Fiona. Loved the chemistry between these two and how Johnny would not give up. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review. I highly recommend.
The Valentine Gamble by Katherine Garbera and Eve Gaddy is part of the Whiskey River Series. This series started in a law office, now has returned to it. This is a fun Valentine read as Johnny romances his partner Fiona. Who knows maybe this is what lawyers do all day.
Katherine Garbera and Eve Gaddy take us back to Whiskey River with The Valentine Gamble, the sixth book in their Whiskey River series.
Johnny and Fiona have known each other forever and are partners in their law firm. The mutual attraction and chemistry become impossible to ignore after the Valentine's Day dance.
I enjoyed the time back in Whiskey River with this fun, quick, sweet Valentine romance. I'm looking forward to many more visits back to Whiskey River with Garbera and Gaddy.
What a perfect combination! Valentine's Day and romance. Johnny Gamble and Fiona Lannigan feel an attraction, but will never act on it. What will happen now that they are paired for this special dance? I enjoy the chemistry between these two. When they're together sparks fly but there is something more. I love their flirtatious banter. I smiled when they open their hearts to each other. As always I enjoy coming to Whiskey River. Katherine Garbera and Eve Gaddy has written a story that is pure romance.
This was a short novella to tidy up all the characters from the law firm that let Kelly brothers that they have two half-brothers.
You don’t have to read the other five books in the series, though you should; the stories are great and the covers are drool worthy.
In this story Johnny Gamble and Fiona Lannigan get their happily ever-after. All Johnny has to do is convince Fiona that he’s not a jerk and that when it comes to her, well, he’s ready for forever.
I was entertained with the story. Although, I sometimes (or often) hated Fiona. Fiona kept making references to why she didn’t do love, but we got no real detail, so we have poor Johnny fighting an uphill battle.
Although, Fiona’s “I’m sorry / grand gesture” was sweet.
