I've been kind of stuck at the "beginner" level of knitting for about a decade now, so I was hesitant to check out something that looked this advanced, but the author makes everything quite clear and easy to understand!!
This is a good basic book for knitting hats. There is a variety of styles and skill levels. It makes a nice addition to my collection of knitting books. Knit hats are perfect for gifts and this book has the right choice of patterns.
A knitting book suitable for new to intermediate knitters looking for a modern hat collection. The limited number of designs and large gauge patterns keep this book from being a comprehensive collection. All the designs would please the average teenage to young adult though. They are modern and trendy and quick to knit. The instruction and charts are precise and easy to follow and all the materials used in the book will be easy to find online or at your local yarn store.
Hats are great things to move onto after you've learnt to knit and want to challenge yourself a bit. I did enjoy this book, it had a great mix of beginner and intermediate knitting, with a wide range of different yarn types used. There were plenty of pictures as well. If there was something I'd change, I'd add the weight of the yarn being used. While the actually yarn brand itself is added, we weren't told if it was DK, Aran, Chunky and I think this is important as it means you have to look up what the yarn is online if you decide you don't want to use the one in the photo and it adds extra hassle that would have been easily prevented
This is quite a lovely collection on knit hats that can be easily produced by most knitters. There are a few that would require more experienced knitters – those that can tackle cables, intarsia and charts. I consider myself an accomplished knitter but even for me charts are a new challenge. That’s one of the reasons I like this book. Using my age old requirement for purchasing a craft book I could easily find at least three or four projects that I would immediately like to knit and several others that look promising.
What I really like about this collection is the varied weights of yarns used to produce some really beautiful hats. I often purchase yarns without any real project in mind – sigh – don’t we all. So with MARGEAU CHAPEAU I will now be able to hit my stash.
With the inclusion of intarsia hats MARGEAU CHAPEAU will also enable knitters to use up some of those odd skeins.
All knitters and crafters look for books that offer variety of styles, yarn weights and embellishments. Matching hats with yarns and gauges is always difficult since we want to make sure sizing is just right. This book lets you size many different styles of hats using lots of yarn types and weights.
Margeau Soboti has a great reputation as a designer and with MARGEAU CHAPEAU she harnessed some of her best hats designed in one book. Each pattern is accompanied with several photos of the finished product. The hats are all very current designs. And the step by step instructions are clear and concise. Everything you need to complete some lovely new additions to your hat wardrobe or as a gift.
A really good mix of patterns in this book. Hats are my favorite thing to knit both for my family and for gifts. This book has a good range of fun challenging designs such as cables and colorwork and really simple beginner style patterns.
My teenage daughter was really interested in some of the simple designs and since there are several worked up in large yarn I think she might actually finish them herself.
A lovely book with a nice range of patterns to choose from depending on your skill level and the amount of time you have to knit.
I personally will be looking closer at the simple designs in large yarn for quick knits for friends. As much as I love a good cabled hat simple and fun is really nice too.
Patterns seemed to be well written and informative which I appreciate.
I liked this book. Well illustrated with a good choice of hats from newbie knitter to more experienced. My real moan which lost it a star is that the weigh of yarn e.g. Double knitting, Chunky, Aran, etc. is not given. Having paid for a book I imagine knitters would not want to have to look up the yarn suggested and then find out what weight they need. Especially annoying for knitters using hand spun yarn. I think this will be a success, it will be popular on Ravelry where knitters chat so much. Well done, a lovely book!
This is a great book of hat patterns. The hats are adorable and varied in skill level and elements. The suggested yarns range from Michael's brands to expensive, which I always appreciate. There are very basic beanies all the way to complicated cabling and fair isle patterns.
My one wish is that the hats varied more in shape. Most of the hats are beanies, there aren't very many berets, ear flaps or different crown techniques.
This is one great book. Its all about hats.
The saying goes "If you want to get ahead, get a hat" and these are some awesome knitting patterns within this book ranging from the easy, intermediate to a little bit more thought and experience.
It explains the tension of your needles with the wool, the kind of wool, fibers that are best to knit with.
You can't go wrong really, they are all knitted hats like beanies to cosy hats with pom poms on top to caps.
There are 15 patterns you can practice on.

*Thanks to Dover Publications via Net Galley for allowing me to review this book *
Beautiful photographed and written. I already have the Ombre Hat casted on my needles .. I cannot wait to knit my way through this book . It is perfect for all levels of Knitting . I will be purchasing this as a gifts
Knitting hats is addictive, and Ms. Soboti's new book, "Margeau Chapeau: A New Perspective on Classic Knit Hats" is the perfect fix. Ms. Soboti includes a number of different knitting techniques in these patterns - brioche stitch, fair isle and cabling for example. All of the patterns are knit in the round which is perfect for speed and stitch consistency (and I think fit as well) - this is my favorite style of knitting.
The patterns range from very simple (beginner) to intermediate level. Something for every hat knitter.
The patterns are clearly written in simple knitting language, with beautifully photographed illustrations. A lovely and very useful book. I look forward to knitting some of these hats myself!
Cute book!
I love all the different hats. I liked the patterns. The layout and the photography. My only little issue is that when it comes to patterns, there was just the yarn that was used mentioned. I would prefer if it would state what kind of yarn was used- as in lace, worsted, bulky, double knit, sock yarn... It would make it much easier to find a yarn for a project. I kinda guestimated.. and discovered after doing the gauge that I had the wrong kind of yarn Still a great book for knit lovers!
I received a copy for a proper review after falling in love with the hat in the picture. I find that the book contains very lovely bright pictures, and the projects looks fun and simple to make. Easy instructions, but the outcome makes it look more "handmade: than "homemade", which sometimes makes or breaks any crafty item. I've already bookmarked a few hats that I want to make in the following months, for myself and to gift to others for the holidays.
I also like that it caters to all of it's audiences, because I've noticed that they had different types of brand of yarns that were used and suggested. From a simple box craft store acrylic yarn to a higher end LYS yarn. And it still manages to make all of their projects look so beautiful.
Patterns are written nicely and easy to understand and follow, so can be made by everyone from beginner to advanced. Really enjoyed this book!
This is a great resource for new knitters. While the patterns aren't ground breaking, the photography and directions are excellent.
I don't remember exactly when I started knitting, but it has been more years than I want to admit to. I've been knitting so long that I just frogged a sweater I started in 1977. I guess you could say I took a really long knitting break, about 30 years, to be exact.
Then I retired and moved away from the friends I'd made throughout my career. In an effort to made new friends, and because everywhere I went, people were talking about knitting and especially knitting socks. I'd never tackled socks, but I was intrigued and decided the best way to kill two birds with that one stone, was to take a class. I was hooked.
I started knitting socks, then graduated to hats too. I love knitting hats. They are quick to finish and people love them. They are also a good take along project and easy to donate to charity.
Margeau Soboti has written an excellent instruction manual/book. She has included some great patterns that I know my family will love and that I will enjoying knitting.
Charlie Chevron is definitely my favorite of the collection, but there are several patterns for every taste. Margeau Chapeau is a knitting book for all skill levels.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Such a great book on taking a simple project - a beanie in this case. The book provides 14 different styles of stitches and wool weights to knit a version of this very versatile headwear. The patterns are easy and gives a good range to be creative and trendy, not just to keep you head warm. I like this book, it is honest and would be good for all skill levels - in fact it does have a skill level gauge on each pattern, which is very helpful. I particularly like the bulky fair isle pattern and the chevron and the ombre and ......... All of them are great. The photography is great as are the instructions and the colours used are very much on trend.
I received a free digital copy of the book via NetGalley for the purpose of this review.
The books has a bunch of basic and a bit more advanced hats. The designs use some colorwork, texture and cables. Each pattern is clearly written, and some of the patters have charts with written instructions provided, too. Everything is very clear, and I did not notice any mistakes in patterns. I knitted the hat from the cover, and working on an earflap hat now, and both patterns are pleasure to deal with.
Note that this is a strictly pattern book, it does not teach you how to knit, just patterns, good quality patterns. The photos in the book are clear and show the design and construction well, I am glad the author took great care to choose the yarns for the knitted samples that let the reader see the knitting in detail.
Nice collection of fairly basic hats with great photos of each one. The patterns are clearly written and there is also a list of abbreviations.
Knitters of all skill levels will enjoy this book and want a copy for their collection. Easy to understand and follow instructions, with clear pictures for a reference guide. Beginning knitters should consider this book when their ready to learn the art of knitting hats. I am eager to try several patterns; trying to decide which one first is a tough decision. Highly recommend for those who love knitting no matter what your skill level is.
Good enough to make me excited about woolly hats even in the middle of summer! Very clear and easy instructions, a lovely range of shapes and styles, and gorgeous photos. I'm two inches into a soft slouchy hat, and I'm planning colours for the New York watch cap for Christmas presents (I'm a fairly slow knitter). It's the first time I've tried a digital knitting pattern book, and I'm completely sold. Fabulous!
This is a great book full of gorgeous pictures of that your fingers will itch to knit. It includes patterns for all skill levels and weight of yarns. I think you could find a pattern for just about any ball of yarn and person on your knitting gift list.
The only problem i could see with the ebook I received for review was a graph that I could not read. Hopefully they will fix this by including a link for a download in the Kindle edition. I think I will buy a hard copy to knit from.
There are some beautiful patterns in this book...can't wait to try them out. The directions all look clear and simple to follow, and there are options for a variety of knitters.
Another Dover hit! I love the books they publish, the DIY ways that I'd never think of (not being creative at all). The hats in this book were pretty funky and I can't wait to start making some as gifts!
This book has many different styles of hats and includes difficulty levels, so you can judge which is best for you. The photos are great at helping you visualize the end result. However, as a novice knitter, I think I will have to do some more research on knitting before I can complete a project in this book. It had lots of abbreviations and knitting-specific terms I had not heard of yet. This book is better suited to someone who is not just starting out like I am.
