Sliders are the perfect bite that can be served as an appetizer, tapas, entrée, side, or midnight snack. The Slider Effect focuses on these amazing, handheld mini sandwiches featuring more than 75 recipes and 65 delicious photographs designed to turn you into a slider pro.
The opening chapter begins with slider pantry basics, followed by four main chapters that focus on meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetarian sliders. The Poultry chapter will introduce you to Turkey-Bacon BLT Avocado Sliders and Chicken Curry Sliders. The Seafood chapter ranges from Fish and Chips Sliders to Shrimp Fajita Sliders. And in the Vegetarian chapter you’ll find tiny buns filled with roasted beets, eggplant, polenta, and black beans. If you like making your own rolls, there are recipes ranging from biscuits to challah and from waffle to pretzel buns. And what slider would not be complete without a dab of Cilantro, Lime and Green Chile Aioli or Arugula Pumpkin Seed Pesto on top? There is no end to what you can make work in a slider!

Awesome book, some great ideas. Made me hungry just looking at it. Good photographs and great instructions
In his cookbook, The Slider Effect, Jonathan Melendez points out the fact that everybody not only loves sliders, but that it’s impossible to eat just one. Sliders are served everywhere – restaurants often offer the standard cheeseburger sliders (and one of the major airlines offers roast beef sliders on their Eats menu) – but the number of sliders you can make at home beats anything served in a restaurant or on an airplane. That’s where this book comes into play. According to Melendez, almost anything can be put on a slider: chicken curry, fried chicken, lamb patties, blackened salmon, bacon and eggs, fried zucchini – the possibilities are endless! There are also recipes for sauces and toppings to spread on the sliders.
This is one of those cookbooks that doesn’t teach basics, but is really fun and will inspire even the most mundane, boring cooks to branch out and make something exciting. There is even a chapter on making slider-size buns, biscuits, bagels, and waffles to house the incredible fillings. The only thing that was disappointing to me was the fact that the recipe for pretzel slider rolls uses a baking soda mixture rather than the authentic food-grade lye mixture, and the rolls are not at all like real pretzel rolls. The other breads are exceptional and, since I adapted them so that the dough can be made in my automatic bread machine, very easy and cook-friendly.
The Slider Effect is a new favorite. I recommend that everyone who wants to grill vegetables, burgers, chicken, or fish, as well as fry vegetables, burgers, chicken or fish, pick up a copy and wear it out. Whether you’re serving sliders for dinner, or serving them for a party, the miniature size makes it possible for each person to sample multiple flavors, and will leave them very happy.
The prose exposes the author’s personality, and he is delightful. His stories make him human. This is a fun book to read, peruse, and cook from.
Today I’m making Melendez’ Sweet Hawaiian rolls to be filled with Orange Chicken; tomorrow, well, who knows! My family is loving tasting the innovative and delicious offerings from this book, and it isn’t likely anyone will get tired of sliders anytime soon, since there is such a variety.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying an advanced review copy of this cookbook.
Such cute and fun little rolls, they would male lovely party food for any occasion. Very easy to make with simple ingredients and quick to make. The photos look delicious. The book is separated into chapters of meat, poultry, fish and vegetable sliders, and it had recipes for the various buns to make for the sliders. I particularly like the bagels, but there are English muffins, focaccia and rolls all to go with the wonderful little sliders to serve to your friends for any occasion.

“The ingredient and flavor combinations that can fit between two buns are limitless” – Jonathan Melendez
Bam, I’m inspired.
An amateur foodie currently caught up in the ‘slider phenomenon”, I came across this title I couldn’t resist – “The Slider Effect: You Can’t Eat Just One!” and downloaded it. This rates right up there with my favorite cookbooks. In his biography, Jonathan says he is a food blogger, so that would explain the great writing. He also claims to be a passionate food photographer so that explains the gorgeous 60+ photographs that provide a great sensory impression.
But of course Jonathan Melendez is also a cook and baker or else this book wouldn’t exist. His well-explained recipes for both the innards (meat, poultry, seafood, vegetarian) and buns are creative and all seem easy enough to make for novices like me and with no special equipment. So far I have made with great results the BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders on Sweet Pineapple Hawaiian Rolls and Afternoon Snack Sliders on Black Pepper Buttermilk Biscuits. So delicious, no substitutions needed. I think next on my list will be the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle Sliders. This is a cookbook I will try most if not all of the recipes.
Jonathan also includes an introduction on pantry essentials, providing great tips – I learned some new things about the basics of spices and herbs. I am planning to also buy the hardcopy of this cookbook, as it will be easier to switch between pages/recipes.
I have followed the author on Instagram from a while now and am thrilled that he has put together a cookbook. It is wonderfully organized and has everything you would need to know, including how to make the buns, rolls, biscuits, & condiments yourself. It is very comprehensive and I look forward to owning and cooking from a physical copy.
Jonathan Melendez's book The Slider Effect is a great cookbook full of miniature treats. The chapters cover all types of sliders - meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetarian. Even better were the chapters on the breads and condiments. Mr. Melendez offers amazing recipes for homemade buns, rolls, and biscuits. I can easily see myself making the everything bagel slider buns for regular sandwiches. The recipes are not simple though and do involve a list of ingredients and steps. At the same time the results are impressive and worth the effort. I enjoyed the book so much that I added it to my Amazon wish list!
I loved this fun book as did my teens and 21 yr old! Sliders are fun, not as messy, and easy to eat! There were several favorites in the book. Everyone had at least one or two that have been added to their "own" ( all grown up, moving out cook book, I've been making each of them for years) cookbook. And to the family treasury!
I was given this book by Net Galley to read and give my honest opinion. I have done that here. All opinions are my own.
Four chapters, focusing on meat, poultry, seafood, vegetarian sliders.
Photos: Gorgeous, appetizing photos.
Equipment & Ingredients: Listing of the basics. Separation section on slider rolls and buns, and another on sauces and spreads.
Recipes: Huge variety. Lasagna sliders, anyone? The entire vegetarian section tempts me; I can see me making so many of those recipes during the Summer.
Who knew there could be so many different sliders. Fantastic Book.
Head over heels in love with this book! Every kind of slider imaginable. Perfect little bites of lusciousness!
