Description
London, 1887. At the Curiosity Club, a ladies-only establishment for daring and intrepid women, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell meets the mysterious Lady Sundridge, who begs her to take on an impossible task—saving society art patron Miles Ramsforth from execution. Ramsforth, accused of the brutal murder of his mistress, Artemisia, will face the hangman’s noose in a week’s time if the real killer is not found.
But Lady Sundridge is not all that she seems, and unmasking her true identity is only the first of many secrets Veronica must uncover. Together with her natural-historian colleague, Stoker, Veronica races against time to find the true murderer. From a Bohemian artists’ colony to a royal palace to a subterranean grotto with a decadent history, the investigation proves to be a very perilous undertaking indeed...

Veronica & Stoker are a very interesting team of explorer/scientists turned sleuths. These mysteries are easy to read but keep you guessing. Full of very charming and likeable characters that make me look forward to our next visit.
Love! Wonderful follow-up in the Veronica and Stoker series. Ms. Raybourn's books always hook me from the first page, and demand to be finished before I'm able to do anything else - including work! Suspenseful, intriguing... I couldn't wait to get to the end. Will recommend to fans of mystery and suspense - especially with that little dash of romance. Will Stoker and Veronica ever get together? The build up through these two books has been delicious, and just makes me root for them more! Highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this book! I am a huge fan of Victorian literature and mysteries, so putting them together with characters like Victoria and Stoker, who interact with one another and the world around them in such a unique and witty way, pretty much guaranteed that I was going to love this book!
