Description
Data, research, scientific formulae--Annabelle Coffey is completely at ease with all of them. Men, not so much. But that's all going to change after she asks Dr. Charles Douglas, the postdoctoral fellow in her lab, to have sex with her. Charles is not only beautiful, he is also adorably awkward, British, brilliant, and nice. What are the odds he'd turn her down?
Very high, as it happens. Something to do with that whole student/teacher/ethics thing. But in a few weeks, Annie will graduate. As soon as she does, the unlikely friendship that's developing between them can turn physical--just until Annie leaves for graduate school. Yet nothing could have prepared either Annie or Charles for chemistry like this, or for what happens when a simple exercise in mutual pleasure turns into something as exhilarating and infernally complicated as love.

I heard an interview with the author on the Smart Podcast Trashy Books podcast & I was luckily able to get an eARC of the book from Netgalley. I loved this story! The friendship between Charles & Annie, the fact that he sets clear boundaries, all the discussion between the two. It's such a fabulous story, but warning, there is a cliffhanger. Considering the character of both Charles & Annie, their concerns regarding fulfilling their obligations and dedication to their careers and studies, I'm anxious to see how the story plays out to its end. During the interview with the author, she promised us a happy end with the second book.
Amazing author! Great storylines and characters you can really enjoy. I love a author that knows how to take you on a journey and this one nailed it! A must read for everyone!
This is a wonderful exploration of sexuality, trauma and emotion. How Not to Fall is beautiful, sexual and heartbreaking, but also filled with promise.
At the beginning, I didn't realize that this ended in a cliffhanger -- usually a non-starter for me. However as I got to 90%, and then 96%, I hoped it would, because the story simply could not end this way. I'm trying to see the cliffhanger as a necessary breather before continuing the journey with Annie and Charles. The only problem is, I seriously need to know what happens next. Impatient doesn't begin to explain my current state.
What does all this mean for you, the potential reader? Well, first I'll say, this book is a hands-down absolute must-read. No question. It's smart, funny, sexy and so darn honest. The only question is, should you read it before all the books are available? I'm already hooked. I have no choice. I'm reading whatever I can, as soon as I can. It's that good. What will you choose?
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
