Description
A Note From the Publisher
Advance Praise
Within four chapters, 3–D Printing captivates readers by inviting them to explore the beginning of 3–D printing, travel through to its present, and finally focus on its promising future. In addition, each chapter includes specific sections with “Did you know” information as well as innovative accounts separated from the regular text. Another extraordinary feature of this book relates to the vivid graphics that are provided throughout its pages. Vibrant, real life images capture representations of these created 3–D objects ranging from piggy banks and clothing to cars and prosthetics. The visuals and detailed descriptions complement each other.
This book can be utilized by elementary and middle school students to provide background information on 3–D printing. Students may complete a timeline highlighting its advancements through the years. Teachers may select this book as a read aloud at the beginning of a unit on inventions/technology or students can read individually. The use of bolded words that are defined in the glossary serves to make concepts clearer and enhance vocabulary. Should teachers or students need more information, the last few pages of the book provide additional resources and websites. This book is definitely worth buying! With current information and stunning visuals, it will certainly arouse students’ curiosity and challenge them to continue exploring the amazing world of 3–D printing."NSTA (National Science Teachers Association), Sept 2016

This informative, clearly written and formatted book about 3-D printing is sure to interest tech-savvy kids...and even adults. By providing an up-to-date vocabulary for talking about 3-D printing and a sampling of the uses of this technology (making cars, designing clothing, guiding surgeons doing new and difficult surgeries, allowing dentists to create crowns on-the spot, and enabling the creation of artificial limbs), this book details how this technology is being used and speculates about future uses. Potential problems are also discussed. There is a lot to learn in one short book.
I thought this book about 3-D printing was interesting and had a lot of great information. My only concern was that this is a technology that is changing so quickly that the book will be soon outdated.
This is a great book for the beginner Maker Space. It explains the 3-D printer process in easy to understand language and doesn't "Talk Down" to the reader. I really liked the explanation of the 3D printer gun - we had several people in our area who didn't want the library to have the printers due to this . The situation was handled very well in the book - wish I had this when I was fighting for my printers!!
